Eight minutes in though, after some sustained pressure in Galaxy's defensive third, Wanderers were awarded a penalty after a late challenge brought down one of their forwards in the box. With their tails up, Wanderers put a lot of pressure on and Galaxy found it difficult to move the ball out of their own half. To their credit, our boys were persistent and focussed on playing out despite the pressure but, unfortunately for the score line, some indecision in the back line at 19 minutes led to a dangerous turn over just outside the box and the Wanderers' forward wasted no time, darting to the edge of the box and produced a fine shot into the top right hand corner of the net. Not to be deterred, Galaxy kept working hard, sticking to the curriculum objectives and at times displaying some terrific patches of possession and movement, showing what they are capable of. Half time 0 - 2. The second half again started brightly for Galaxy with the boys stepping up a notch, determined to turn the game. Despite some great build up play, chances went begging and Wanderers again scored against the run of play. Wanderers were in control from then on but Galaxy didn't once drop their heads, instead working hard to continue playing out from the back and holding the ball, though Wanderers made that difficult, putting pressure on every Galaxy touch of the ball. Forget the score, this was a great start from the U13 Boys. We can expect to see many impressive performances through the season from these boys. FUN: DID YOU KNOW? - Only three teams have won the FA Cup without conceding a single goal during the entire competition. Don't expect to see any footage though. The teams were The Wanderers, who won it in 1873, Preston North End in 1889, and Bury in 1903. - The only two players to have scored in four consecutive finals tournaments in 1958, 1962, 1966 & 1970 are Pele of Brazil and Uwe Seeler of West Germany. -The record number of World Cup career goals is 15 by Brazilian forward Ronaldo. www.greatergeelonggalaxy.sportingpulse.net www.facebook.com/greatergeelonggalaxy email: [email protected] Focus on: U13 Boys - Action Snaps GGG vs NWW www.greatergeelonggalaxy.sportingpulse.net Facebook.com/GreaterGeelongGalaxy email: [email protected] FOCUS ON: U13 BOYS’ QUESTIONAIRRE Name: Tomi Krasic Number: 7 Preferred Position: Mid or Wings Favourite all-time football player: Neymar Jr If you could play for any team (club or country) in the world, who would you play for?: Brazil Favourite band: One Direction Pink or One Direction: One Direction Name: Thomas Hidic Number: 2 Preferred Position: Striker Favourite all-time football player: Santi Carzola If you could play for any team (club or country) in the world, who would you play for?: Manchester United Favourite band: Cold Play Pink or One Direction: One Direction Name: Erindi Markolli Number: 11 Preferred Position: Center Mid Favourite all-time football player: Eden Hazard If you could play for any team (club or country) in the world, who would you play for?: Barcelona Favourite band: The Beatles Pink or One Direction: One Direction Name: Eros Markoulis Number: 14 Preferred Position: Left Wing Favourite all-time football player: Messi If you could play for any team (club or country) in the world, who would you play for?: Barcelona Favourite band: The Doors Pink or One Direction: One Direction www.greatergeelonggalaxy.sportingpulse.net Facebook.com/GreaterGeelongGalaxy email: [email protected] FOCUS ON: U13 BOYS’ QUESTIONAIRRE Name: Daniel Serra Number: 6 Preferred Position: Defensive Midfield Favourite all-time football player: Diego Maradona If you could play for any team (club or country) in the world, who would you play for?: Barcelona Favourite band: AC/DC Pink or One Direction: Pink Name: Tristan McGrath Number: 11 Preferred Position: 7, 11, 19, ANY Favourite all-time football player: Messi If you could play for any team (club or country) in the world, who would you play for?: Chelsea Favourite band: PSY Pink or One Direction: Pink Name: Matija Tataj Number: 76 Preferred Position: Defensive Midfield Favourite all-time football player: Mate Dugandzic If you could play for any team (club or country) in the world, who would you play for?: Croatia Favourite band: AC/DC Pink or One Direction: Pink Name: Max Waugh Number: 21 Preferred Position: Center Back Favourite all-time football player: Steven Gerrard If you could play for any team (club or country) in the world, who would you play for?: Liverpool Favourite band: Rock/Pop Pink or One Direction: Pink www.greatergeelonggalaxy.sportingpulse.net Facebook.com/GreaterGeelongGalaxy email: [email protected] FOCUS ON: U13 BOYS’ QUESTIONAIRRE Name: John Perks Number: 5 Preferred Position: Center Back Favourite all-time football player: Steven Gerrard If you could play for any team (club or country) in the world, who would you play for?: Liverpool Favourite band: Maroon 5 Pink or One Direction: Pink Name: Leo Hanley Number: 13 Preferred Position: Left Back Favourite all-time football player: Sergio Ramos If you could play for any team (club or country) in the world, who would you play for?: Barcelona Favourite band: The Beatles Pink or One Direction: Pink Name: Matthew Stosic Number: 3 Preferred Position: Left Back Favourite all-time football player: Lampard If you could play for any team (club or country) in the world, who would you play for?: Chelsea Favourite band: AC/DC Pink or One Direction: Pink Name: Jake Krilcic Number: 4 Preferred Position: Attacking Midfield Favourite all-time football player: Iniesta If you could play for any team (club or country) in the world, who would you play for?: Liverpool Favourite band: AC/DC Pink or One Direction: Pink www.greatergeelonggalaxy.sportingpulse.net

Review of 2008/09 – Part 1 – End of the honeymoon The 2008/09 squad - Back: Harvey Sharman (head physio), Rui Marques, Ben Parker, Lubo Michalik, David Lucas, Casper Ankergren, Enoch Showunmi, Peter Sweeney, Rob Snodgrass, Andy Beasley (goalkeeping coach) - Middle: Darren Mowbray (video analyst), Neil McDonald (first team coach), Luciano Becchio, Bradley Johnson, Alan Martin, Paul Huntington, Jermaine Beckford, Steve Staunton (assistant manager), Matt Pears (fitness coach), Chris Beasley (kit man) - Front: Alan Sheehan, Jonny Howson, Fabian Delph, Jonathan Douglas, Andy Hughes, Gary McAllister (manager), David Prutton, Frazer Richardson, Andy Robinson, Rob Bayly, Scott Gardner Leeds United supporters were delighted with the appointment of former skipper Gary McAllister as manager in January 2008, welcoming the link with the club’s glorious past after the reign of Dennis Wise. They still passionately resented Ken Bates and his Chelsea connections. The fans were even happier when McAllister inspired enough of a revival for the team to qualify for the Play Offs. It was disappointing to lose the Wembley final, but there was genuine promise at last. After the turmoil of the previous summer, the 2008 close season was in stark contrast an oasis of tranquillity and preparations for the new campaign almost perfect. McAllister persuaded Swansea wide man Andy Robinson to forsake the certainty of Championship football and throw in his lot with Leeds. Leicester left-back Alan Sheehan made a loan move permanent and he was soon joined by Bristol City target man Enoch Showunmi, young Livingstone winger Rob Snodgrass and the Argentinian, Luciano Becchio. The South American striker began his career with Boca Juniors, around the same time as Carlos Tevez, before spells at Barcelona and Mallorca.

The figures released by the Office for National Statistics were well ahead of the market consensus of 0.5 percent growth. They contrasted with a drop of 0.7 percent in February, and encouraged hope that Britain’s economy returned to growth in the first quarter of the year. Government warnings to prepare for a possible strike by tanker drivers set off a wave of panic buying of petrol, contrib- uting to a 4.9 percent gain in petrol sales Continued on page 4 R Inflation Rises For First Time In Six Months INCREASES in the price of food and clothing pushed inflation in Britain to 3.5 percent in March, the first increase in the annual rate in six months, official figures showed last month. The Office for National Statistics said the rate was up from February’s 3.4 percent – still far above the Bank of Eng- land’s official target of two percent. Analysts, however, said the inflation rate, which had been falling steadily from a peak of 5.2 percent in September, is likely to soon resume its decline. “This should be only temporary,” said Vicky Redwood, chief UK economist at Capital Economics.

  • Bayern Learning from City Defeat
SPORTS SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2013 SPL PREVIEW Photo of the day Celtic desperate for striking impact GLASGOW: Kris Commons says Celtic are in need of a top quality striker after the Scottish champions crashed out of Europe following a record 6-1 defeat by Barcelona on Wednesday. The Hoops have been dominant domestically-scoring 12 in their past two matches-as they have made an unbeaten start to the defense of their title. However, the Parkhead club’s form in Europe has been less impressive with Neil Lennon’s side finishing bottom of Group H with just three points-their lowest ever tally in the Champions League. Celtic are runaway leaders in the Scottish Premiership and have found the net 35 times in 14 matches but Georgios Samaras’ consola- tion goal in the Nou Camp was just their third in six Champions League matches. Commons, who is Celtic’s top scorer with 12, says the Hoops are paying the price for not replacing striker Gary Hooper. Hooper scored 31 times last season as Celtic claimed a double before his transfer to Norwich while summer signings Amido Balde and Teemu Pukki have failed to make much of an impression. And as Celtic prepare to take on Hibernian at Parkhead today Commons says his side need to begin rebuilding for next season by bringing in a top quality striker to take the pressure off the midfield- ers. “I think when you are relying on people, midfield quality to get you goals then once they dry up you are looking for a striker,” Commons said.
