Joseph H. Patterson Cup 2019 Joseph H. Patterson Cup Applebrook Golf Club Malvern, Pa. Aug. 7-8 2 Joseph H. Patterson Cup Course Information Par: TBD Founded: 2001 Architect: Gil Hanse Website: www.applebrookgolfclub.com History Applebrook Golf Club was builtStay on land formerlyConnected known as “Applebrook with Farm.” GAP Robert Williams originally owned the property, located just outside the historic village of Goshenville. He was the first settler in Goshen. The land was deeded to Williams in 1680 from William Penn, and it is one of the earliest Penn Land Grants in Chester County. The original Williams’ homestead, circa 1702, still remains on East Boot Road and was owned by Shirley Fox since 1971. In 1715, the farm was acquired by Samuel Garrett. The Garrett family retained ownership of the land until 1900. A fieldstone house built by Garrett descendants has been renovated to serve as a meeting place for the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry. The dairy barn has also been renovated and is being used as the Golf Course Superintendent’s headquarters. The East Goshen Historic Commission believes the name Applebrook originated from Samuel Horner who purchased the property in 1913. On Jan. 27, 2000, the founding members came to an agreement with a local bank that made it possible to take upon the venture of starting a prestigious golf club on this land. Patterson Cup Lu Lu’s Brown wins 2018 Patterson Cup KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.–Michael R. Brown, Jr. openly talks about the self-doubt associated with his golf game. His self-confidence and self-belief are always at a premium. In Thursday’s final round of the 116th Joseph H. Patterson Cup, Brown banished those inner demons, at least temporarily, with a scintillating mid-round move that led to an eventual victory. Brown carded a second-round 5-under 66 to finish the 36 holes at 4 under, two shots clear of the field. Fellow Lu Lu Country Club mate Mark Farley, too, shot up the leaderboard and, too, posted a final-round 66 to finish second. It is Brown’s third Golf Association of Philadelphia Major title. He adds the Patterson Cup to victories in the 2009 Middle-Amateur Championship and 2010 Open Championship. Michael R. At the age of ten he ventured out to Cobb’s Creek Golf Club where he fished golf balls out of the creeks and sold them to the profes- sional, Andy Pettineo, Sr. Soon he was caddying and playing golf there. That led to his working for Andy, Sr. and Jr. cleaning the golf carts and shagging balls for the golf lessons. From there he went on to Drexel Univer- sity where he graduated with a business degree and played on the golf team. He lettered four years and won the East Coast Conference individual cham- pionship in his senior year. He was inducted into the Drexel University ath- letic hall of fame in 2007. In 1985 he turned pro and went to work as an assistant to Harry Heagy at the Rolling Green Golf Club. After six years as an assistant at Rolling Green he signed on with the Philadelphia Section PGA as the tournament director. As the supervisor for more than 100 Sec- tion competitions he found himself needing to become an expert on the rules of golf. He began attending rules seminars and found his calling in the game of golf.
