  • Macerata Opera Festival from 20 July to 12 August 2018 the 2018 Theme Is #Verdesperanza
! The Sferisterio arena The Sferisterio arena is unique in its shape and structure. Built on the initiative of the Hundred Comrades (Cento Consorti), it was designed in 1829 by Neoclassical architect Ireneo Aleandri to host the game with ball and bangle. In 1921, it was used as an opera theatre for the first time (the first opera to be staged was Aida) and it’s still the only open-air opera theatre with boxes." After Gioconda, which was performed in 1922, activities were summoned again only in 1967. The season opened with Giuseppe Verdi’s Otello, featuring Mario Del Monaco in the leading role. Since then, the Sferisterio has welcomed the most extraordinary artists of our time: Luciano Pavarotti, Katia Ricciarelli, Renato Bruson, Montserrat Caballé, Placido Domingo, José Carreras, Raina Ka- baivanska, Mariella Devia, Anna Caterina Antonacci, Désirée Rancatore, Francesco Meli, Rolando Villazon, Rudolf Nureyev, Carla Fracci, Roberto Bolle." With its 2,500 seats, 104 boxes and one of the longest stages in Europe, the Sferisterio ensures perfect visibility and wonderful acoustics." A majestic yet intimate theatre, the Sferisterio was thus defined by tenor Luciano Pavarotti: “it is the most fascinating open-air theatre I have ever seen, I will never forget it”. Macerata Opera Festival" From 20 July to 12 August 2018 The 2018 theme is #verdesperanza The main issues threaded into our next summer festival are connected with a green, clean envi- ronment and sustainability, with planting the seeds of a better future through the art of hope. Our aim is to build strong ties with other bodies and institutions working on these issues, building a dia- logue on sustainability and bringing together culture, nature and the community.

  • La Forza Del Baritone
LA FORZA DEL BARITONE Interview ERNESTO PETTI (Ernesto Petti) OM: Ernesto, since October 2018 you have been performing successfully at the Theater Basel in „Lucia di Lammermoor“ where you and your colleagues got many positive comments by the audience as well as by the media. EP: Singing in Basel was a great experience, the city is very beautiful and in the moments free from work I really enjoyed going around discovering its beauty. The work enviroment was very stimulating. OM: How did you experience your work in Basel and what was your personal highlight of your work period in Basel? EP: I was lucky in this production to work alongside great artists. This package has led to a climate of relaxation that allows us to give the best of us. One of the most beautiful moments was certainly when the public decided to give us a standing ovation, which is not very common in the theater. Rosa Feola and Ernesto Petti in LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR/Theater Basel/ Foto @Sandra Then OM: How did you get to become an opera singer and who at the beginning encouraged you to go this way? EP: Initially opera music did not interest me at all. I was completely dedicated to sports, in fact, already young (13) I played in a water polo team Serie A2. Around the age of 17 I approached opera music thanks to discs on the possesion of my father, who is a big fan of this genre. Love was immediate and from there I decided, thanks to the total family support to take this path.

» Peter Gelb Directeur du Metropolitan Opera - New York “If Harpo Marx had been born a coloratura soprano, he would have been Natalie Dessay. As the Daughter in The Daughter of the Regiment, no soprano has ever been physically funnier. But for that matter, it is hard to imagine any soprano since Callas to be more dramatic in Lucia or more hypnotic in La Sonnambula.
