The Civic Action Committee of the Society, in collaboration with the Committee on Councils and Commit- tee on Research and Education identified two priority advocacy programs which are consistent not only with the goals identified, but also with the national health issues, particularly control of preventable diseases linked to poor sanitation and nutrition. Cognizant of existing and future global environmental health issues, The “PSG GREENS-Gastroenterologists for Reforestation and Environmental Sustainability“ and the “PSG POWS-Potable Water System” were conceptualized and realized. (Asparagaceae) is a plant which is traditionally used for the treatment of cough, bloody cough, diarrhea, dysentery, high fever, difficulties in urine, bloody urine, small pox, madness, skin eruptions, joint pains, rheumatic bone pains, sore throat, neck pain, bleeding hemorrhoids and inflammation in the digestive tract. Therefore, the present work aims to investigate the antidiarrheal and cytotoxic activities of methanolic extract of Cordyline fruticosa leaves in mice and brine shrimp, respectively. Methods: The effects of the methanol extract of Cordyline fruticosa leaves (MCFL) on castor oil-induced diarrhea, magnesium sulphate induced diarrhea and charcoal meal test in mice were investigated. In addition, brine shrimp lethality bioassay method was used to evaluate cytotoxic activity of MCFL. Results: In castor oil induced diarrheal test, MCFL at the dose of 200, 400 and 800 mg/kg body weight significantly (∗P< 0.05, versus control) and dose-dependently reduced the frequency of diarrhea. The frequency of magnesium sulphate-induced diarrhea was significantly reduced by MCFL at the dose of with 800 mg/kg. In the charcoal meal test, the extract at the dose of 400 and 800 mg/kg body weight significantly (∗P< 0.05) reduced the distance travelled by charcoal along the intestinal tract when compare with control.

The consti- pating effects of opioid analgesic agents are well known and can be used to manage severe diarrhea and control high output ostomies. Loperamide, diphenoxylate, and difenoxin are currently the only opioid-derivatives approved by the FDA for treating diarrhea. Drug-drug interactions and end organ dysfunction may exacerbate systemic side effects of these drugs. In patients who have failed to respond to these agents, other systemic opioids may be considered. The goal of therapy to control gastrointestinal secretion should be to use the lowest effective dose with minimal side effects. What is the comparative efficacy and effectiveness for bismuth subsalicylate, loperamide, diphenoxylate/atropine, paregoric, crofelemer, or opium tincture in management of diarrhea? 2. What are the comparative harms or potential abuses for bismuth subsalicylate, loperamide, diphenoxylate/atropine, paregoric, crofelemer, or opium tincture? 3. Are there subgroups of patients based on demographics (age, racial or ethnic groups and gender), other medications, or co-morbidities for which one treatment for diarrhea is more effective or associated with fewer adverse events? Conclusions: There is insufficient comparative evidence of efficacy and effectiveness between bismuth subsalicylate, loperamide, diphenoxylate/atropine, paregoric, crofelemer and opium tincture. Moderate quality evidence shows that the addition of loperamide to ciprofloxacin for treatment of traveler’s diarrhea may decrease the duration of diarrhea within the first 24 to 48 hours of symptom onset.1 Opium tincture has not been evaluated by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for safety and effectiveness because it was marketed before 1962.2 The FDA

The use of illegal drugs and the abuse of alcohol by City employees constitute a danger to the employee, fellow employees, and the general public. The use, sale or possession of an illegal drug or alcohol in the workplace may negatively affect the City’s efficiency in providing service to its citizens and can have an adverse impact on how the public perceives the City and its employees. An employee’s possession, sale, or use of illegal drugs, controlled substances, or other intoxicants in violation of this policy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination and/or successful completion of a rehabilitation program. TYPES OF TESTING It is the City’s policy that the following types of drug/alcohol testing shall be administered according to the City’s Personnel Policy Manual and applicable collective bargaining agreements: • Post Offer of Employment • Reasonable Suspicion • Routine Fitness for Duty • Follow up Testing • Post Accident Testing • Random Testing CONFIDENTIALITY OF DRUG TEST RESULTS All drug/alcohol testing results and related communications containing confidential information will be maintained on a confidential basis. REPORTING THE USE OF PRESCRIPTION OR NON-PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS/DRUGS At the time of drug testing or after drug testing, the employee can confidentially report the use of prescription or non-prescription medications to the laboratory collecting the specimen or to the City’s Human Resource Manager.
