We the undersigned are writing to ask you to cancel Egypt’s unjust debts to the UK.
The British Government has recently confirmed that part of Egypt’s £100 million debt to the UK comes from military sales to Mubarak’s regime. The rest of Egypt’s debt remains unexplained. The Popular Campaign to Drop Egypt’s Debt, based in Cairo, is calling for an immediate audit of Egypt’s debts, and the cancellation of those not found to have benefited the people. I support this call, and I urge you to take immediate action to fully disclose the origin of Egypt’s and all developing countries’ debts to the UK, and cancel those debts which resulted from irresponsible lending. This is already Liberal Democrat party policy.
