Roll call vote indicated: Ayes: Mrs. Kampwirth, Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Canning, Ms. Stearns, Mr. Whitcomb Nays: Mr. Johnson 5 Dr. Sikora recognized Chris Nielsen and Noel Stahnke as the recipients of the District Board Recognition 228 Board of Education Volunteer Award. They have been an intricate part of the Award of the Month Bengal family as shared by the following; Coach Czar, OF coach, stated: from shopping, preparing and making meals, to planning trips, to setting up and working 2019-0521 1

the concession stand, to cooperatively helping baseball work with the park district, they have been a tremendous asset. Head Boys Coach, Matt Spreadbury, stated that Chris Nielsen was always ready to help out - going and picking up lunch for the team, bringing water/Gatorade & carrying the cooler. Chris would be ready to help the coaches and the athletes in any way he could. Head Girls Coach, Ashley Thompson, stated that beyond the time and dedication these two put into the programs, they put just the same effort into supporting all of the student athletes at OFHS. Head Girls Coach, Jeffrey Kelly, noted that Noel and Chris are a great representation of what it means to be a Bengal, and the kids, school, and community appreciate them for all that they do. 1 School Presentations. Fred Tapley is a huge asset to the PPS team, presented on the Presentations college and career center. College component, ISAC rep comes in to help students with FAFSA. 95% of seniors used Naviance. Dedicated a wall to students who are going to college, military, or trade. Used hashtag I decided. Featured 15 career speakers during the year. Field trip to Noise Floor Studios (sound engineering). Flyers created by students and him. 928 students participated in career day, 42 presenters, 80 staff volunteered. There were sessions and a Q&A. Notable speakers attended from various companies. 97% of students said the career day helped them start thinking about their careers. Students were able to try on the gear for firefighters, FBI, EMT, and Biologists. DS-balloons include trades, yes. Mrs. Gleason asked would they be able to access Naviance at any time and the response was yes. Mr. Johnson asked if the McDonald’s personnel will be able to talk about franchising. There were positive response from all of the presenters. 2 Mrs. Gleason opened the floor to the public for comments. There being no Communications comments, Mrs. Gleason closed the floor.

3 Dr. Kendall reported the following: Superintendent’s Report Freedom of Information Act Requests  Mark Johnson, Board Member, requested the bids for inside and outside construction for the last six months, with the names and addresses to be included. This request has been completed.  Janie Jordan, Data Research Partners, requested a listing of all Bremen Community High School District 228’s employee’s first and last names, e-mail address, title/position, and primary campus/department location. This request has been completed.  Sameer Samant, Anderson UCLA, requested all current Direct Home-to-School transportation vendor contracts and Special Needs transportation vendor contracts (with the pricing), for research purposes. This request has been completed. Superintendent’s Report  We are in the final weeks of the 2018-19 school year. Last week, we recognized the Class of 2019 with our commencement ceremonies. I am confident our nearly 1,400 graduates will continue to work hard toward their goals. On behalf of the entire school community, we wish them all the best. 4 Mr. Whitcomb stated he hopes to have the opportunity to meet with everyone in the Board Member months to come, and was able to attend the senior nights at 3 schools, as well as Reports visiting Bremen for the ford drunk driving event.

Mrs. Kampwirth attended the graduation and senior nights. She congratulated everyone on a job well done. Mrs. Gleason agreed with Mrs. Kampwirth and stated the careers the students have chosen never ceases to amaze her. Ms. Stearns stated she was excited to see the skilled trades’ expo at South Suburban College and the incentives for a minimum of 15 students. Mrs. Stearns asked a question about the drama at Bremen, and will the new facilities be open to the public. Dr. Kendall stated there are no plans to do so. She also asked if DecisionEd is being used by staff. Dr. Kendall stated the administrators are currently using it. Mrs. Gleason read a report from Mrs. Resler stating that on May 10, she had the honor of attending INSPRA, although she is unable to be here today, she wanted to share this information with her fellow Board members. Recipients included; Mrs. Renee Simms provided a daylong all-female workshop. Dr. Anna Helwig received the award of excellence for her work at South Suburban College, Gina Arguelles, World Language teacher at Bremen also received an award. Melanie Gangolf, cofounded Get Up and Help, Dylan B. facilitated a food drive, Lisa Walsh, Media Specialist, assisted with facilitating Operation Safe Passage, which advocates for sidewalks, at Hillcrest, L Brazil and K. Haney, of Camacoffee, allows coop students to deliver coffee, and display artwork. We also celebrated teacher appreciation week. Mrs. Resler thanked fellow board members for sharing notes and reminded them that board member questions should be channeled through the superintendent. 1 7.1 – Bills, Addendum to Bills, Payroll, and CDS Bills.
