Allegheny County Parks SUMMER 2015 PROGRAM AND EVENT GUIDE “Summer afternoon, summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.” Those words were written by American-English writer Henry James, but I would guess that many of us feel the same way. There’s something about summer which makes us yearn to get outside, tip our faces to the sun, get in the water, and do something. We want to help you in that endeavor, which is why I am proud to present the Summer 2015 Program & Event Guide. Our Allegheny County Parks have something for everyone, and this summer guide includes expanded program offerings. And as we unveiled in the Spring, you can now register for programs online and pay the registration fee at the same time. In the past few years, County Council and I have chosen to invest in our parks and ensure that we are maintaining the assets and resources in our 12,000 acres so that they are there for generations to come. This includes the completion of large scale projects like the opening of the Oval and the re-opening of the Lake Trail, but also means that we have provided additional amenities like new bathrooms at the Wagman Observatory in . If you look around at each of the nine parks, you will see that work has been done and projects are underway to make these facilities even more valuable to our residents and visitors. This summer, enjoy a free concert, visit the pool or a spray park, look at the stars on a dark night, take a class, try a paddle board, or participate in one of the dozens of programs outlined in this guide. No matter how you choose to spend your summer, we’ll make the Allegheny County Parks the most beautiful words in your world.

Sincerely,
