It is a production where dance is combined with scenes such as sword battles that encapsulates the Japanese spirit and beauty of previous centuries. Based on feedback from customers about the lack of places to enjoy at night, as a lunar new year welcoming event, the show was open for a limited time from the 30th January to the 4th February last year and was a success. This event was brought back due to popular demand and with the cooperation of 4 companies, the show reopened at the 「DAIHATSU MOVE 道頓堀角座」. Amidst the rise of Bunraku and Kabuki, the OSK Nippon Revue Company with only women was born in Osaka came into existence. The gender-neutral actresses dress up as men and perform beautiful sword fights and dance as well as perform Japanese geisha dance from a forgotten era. A beautiful show that is wrapped in elegant genroku era-style kimono, delighted customers can join in with the show. Before long, the bewitching and beautiful dancing performers appear and the show’s tone shift to one of mystery. You start to doubt that they are human. As the customers’ sensed, a ghost-story-telling samurai appears. The performers instantly change into spider women and attacked the samurai. What will happen to the samurai? These photos are for illustrative purposes only. 【Each Company’s Role】 1.Summary of OSK Japan Revue Company OSK Japan Revue Company was created in 1922 and has been in operation for over 95 years, and with Takarazuka Revue and Shochiku Geino Co., Ltd, are known as the top three women’s theatre. The spring dance, which begun in 1926, has become a traditional feature of the spring season and recently it has been performed at the Osaka Shochikuza every year. In addition, the summer dances at the Shinbashi Enbujo are performed such as the “Rocket” that is a high energy line dance. While taking over Revue’s rich tradition, OSK Japan Revue Company and continues to create fresh material for the theatre. Moreover, at the 2010 Expo Shanghai China and the 2014 Japan – Cuba exchange 400th year memorial ceremony, OSK Japan Revue Company performed and, through the 2017 Osaka Cultural fair exhibition, gained an extensive amount of experience and understanding of visitors from other countries. 2.Shochiku Co., Ltd. “Kabuki”, which was first discovered worldwide after a public performance in Moscow in 1928, has been performed overseas 70 times in 115 cities over 38 countries over the past 90 years. The Kabuki play “Shi-Shi-O (KABUKI LION)” was performed last year in Las Vegas and was a fusion between traditional techniques and modern technology. Also, the play “Cinema Kabuki”, which aims to re-capture the realism and beauty that can be found in traditional kabuki at the theatre, came with subtitles. Together with the performance and the discovery of entertainment aimed at foreigners to spread its popularity, it gained good experiences and reviews. Also, the customary yearly event that OSK Nippon Revue Company now runs, the “Revue Spring Dances” that were created before the war, has spread in popularity as Japan’s biggest Japanese and Western Dance Grand Revue. Through cooperation, we endeavor to contribute to the draw of customers from overseas and the possibility of strengthening Dotonbori as an entertainment street. 3.Shochiku Geino Co., Ltd. (Kadoza) 「DAIHATSU MOVE Dotonbori Kadoza」is managed by Shochiku Geino and together with Naniwaza, Nakaza, Asahiza and Bentenza, the 5 Dotonbori theatres that represent the theatre entertainment world, is currently creating entertainment that represents Japan and contributes to the discovery of Japanese culture. Aiming at nurturing talent that can be enjoyed overseas and through the internet, Shochiku Geino is working together with UUUM.Co.,ltd., a Youtuber management company, to engage in the development of new contents. In the Kadoza, by hosting REVUE JAPAN, the company believes that the event will revitalizes Western Japan’s entertainment as a new Osaka tourist spot. 4. JTB Western Japan, Corp. JTB Western Japan, Corp. is a travel agent that also deals with “Night Culture Creation”, responding to the needs of visitors to Japan for night entertainment activities. Also, they have entered a contract with Dotonbori Store Association for a “Area Management Partnership Agreement” that will manage Dotonbori, Osaka’s top tourist spot, as a focus for foreign visitors. Dotonbori in Osaka is well-known as an entertainment street, but primarily focuses on Verbal (word-play) entertainment such as Manzai and Rakugo, which can cause a communication problem for foreign visitors. Therefore, a new tourist spot will be created with a focus on non-verbal entertainment in Dotonbori. The performance will assist with the expansion of inbound tourists by creating global exchange as a platform for night culture creation and Dotonbori through entertainment. The cooperation of these four companies, for foreign tourists in Osaka, will be able to introduce the Kabuki culture around the world from Dotonbori, the birth place of Kageki. By aiming to promote the value of Dotonbori’s history and culture through its evolution from a food street to an entertainment street, visitors’ time in shops can be improved and utilized effectively. The spread of the performance can aid with Dotonbori’s recovery and contribute to the creation of new night entertainment in Osaka. ◆<Inquiries from the General Public> JTB Western Japan, Corp. Brandt, who sadly passed away just weeks after the opening, curated this first major travelling survey show of Tseng’s works, which ranged from candid shots of his immediate East Village circle of artistic creators and his little seen Moral Majority series depicting Right Wing politicians posing in front of a crumpled American flag, to his more well- known documentation of the 1983 Body Painting collaboration between Bill T. Jones and Keith Haring. The exhibition also featured Tseng’s popular East Meets West and The Expeditionary series, performance self-portrait series in which the artist posed as his alter ego, the Ambiguous Ambassador, in a Mao Suit and mirrored glasses in front of iconic landmarks in the us, Canada, and Europe. The artist, who died of aids in 1990, was part of the 1980s Mudd Club and Club 57 set with artists such as Ann Magnuson, Kenny Scharf, and Jean-Michel Basquiat and collaborated with Keith Haring, docu- menting the Pop artist’s work in the subways even before his international rise to fame.
