Assemblyman Cymbrowitz Tours New Ohel Headquarters in Midwood Assemblyman Cymbrowitz recently toured the new Midwood headquarters of Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services. David Mandel, Ohel’s CEO, showed the Assemblyman around the new Jaffa Family Campus on East 14th Street, which is the former home of the historic Vitagraph Studios. Ohel offers individual and family support services including foster care, adolescent residential programs, domestic violence counseling, substance abuse and addiction programs, sexual abuse programs, school-based mental health services and preventive care. “For almost half a century, Ohel has provided a helping hand to people of all ages. I’m pleased that Ohel’s services are now under one roof and accessible to all residents in need of guidance and support,” Assemblyman Cymbrowitz said. Assemblyman Cymbrowitz Brings Peace of Mind to Sheepshead Bay Senior Assemblyman Cymbrowitz recently visited a Sheepshead Bay constituent after he assisted her in resolving a longstanding and particularly difficult problem. Due to a clerical error, Nellie F., 80, found herself facing a lawsuit and eviction for almost $20,000 in back rent. Homebound, in poor health, and with nowhere else to turn, she sought help from Assemblyman Cymbrowitz. Through her niece, Shoshanna, she was able to bring documents to the Assemblyman’s office. Working with the Department of Finance for almost a year, the Assemblyman’s office was able to correct the clerical error, stop the eviction, and restore peace of mind to Ms. F. Assemblyman Cymbrowitz Honors Super Summer Readers Assemblyman Cymbrowitz invited the children who participated in his annual Summer Reading Challenge to his district office in Sheepshead Bay to present them with Assembly certificates honoring their achievement. “The kids represented a cross-section of the community and all exhibited a real curiosity and love of learning. It was great to meet many of the parents who took the time to show their support as well,” Assemblyman Cymbrowitz said. “From journeys in imaginary lands to inspiring stories of triumph, books can take us to new places, expand our horizons and teach us important lessons,” said Assemblyman Cymbrowitz. “No matter the time of year, promoting and reinforcing the importance of reading is essential to ensuring a child’s future success.” Get Your Free Flu Shot at Assemblyman Cymbrowitz’ Office Continuing a long tradition of helping residents to be proactive about their health, Assemblyman Cymbrowitz will once again provide free flu shots for the community in partnership with Mt. Sinai Brooklyn. The flu shots will be administered at his district office, 1800 Sheepshead Bay Road, on two dates: Tuesday, October 9 10:30 A.M. – 1:30 P.M. Thursday, October 18 3:00 P.M. – 6:30 P.M. Assemblyman Cymbrowitz suffered a stroke on March 5, 2005. • February 16, 2017 Hon. Carl Heastie, Speaker 932 Legislative Office
NEW YORK STATE Assembly ASSEMBLYMEMBER Steven H. Cymbrowitz CHAIR, COMMITTEE ON HOUSING ASSEMBLYMEMBER Brian Kavanagh ASSEMBLYMEMBER YUH-LINE NIOU February 16, 2017 Hon. Carl Heastie, Speaker 932 Legislative Office Building New York State Assembly Albany, NY 12248 Dear Speaker Heastie: We write to seek your support for including $500 million in the Fiscal 2017-2018 budget for capital improvements at New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) developments and for allocating these funds to NYCHA directly, for projects identified in consultation with the Assemblymembers whose districts include NYCHA developments, rather than through the Dormitory Authority (DASNY). As you know, due to systematic divestment, especially by the Federal government, NYCHA has struggled in recent years to provide many of its residents with apartments that meet basic standards of livability. NYCHA faces unmet capital needs of nearly $17 billon and if steps are not taken to address NYCHA’s rapidly deteriorating infrastructure, the situation will only worsen. Under the new presidential administration and a Republican Congress, there is cause for concern that federal divestment will continue or accelerate. While NYCHA has committed to efficiencies to lower operating expenses and reduce the shortfall, and the City of New York has significantly increased funding since the beginning of the current mayoral administration, we must also continue to do our part to ensure that our constituents who are public housing residents are not forced to live in unacceptable conditions. As a result of your leadership, the Fiscal 2015-2016 State budget included $100 million of funding for capital improvements at NYCHA developments; the Assembly had proposed an additional $100 million from the Fiscal 2016-2017 budget, but these funds were never budgeted because negotiations with the Executive and the Senate on the $2 billion housing MOU were never completed.

NEW YORK STATE ASSEMBLY June 27, 2013 The Honorable Wendy Davis Texas State Senate P.O. Box 12068 Capitol Station Austin, Texas 78711 Dear Senator Davis: As women legislators in the New York State Assembly, we are pleased to be joined by our Speaker, Sheldon Silver, in applauding your courageous and principled stand in support of the rights of women. You gave women a triumphant voice during a critical debate when you stopped a bill that would have given Texas one of the most restrictive reproductive health laws in the country. Thanks to your efforts, a woman’s freedom of choice was protected in Texas. This is a victory not only for the women of Texas but for women nationwide. In light of the extreme proposals against reproductive health and women’s rights across the nation, it is more important than ever to join together and stand up for a woman’s right to make her own decisions about her health. We stand with you and the thousands of women who joined you in the Texas Senate chamber and on line to support your efforts. In Albany we will continue our work to safeguard the rights of women in New York. We have been long time advocates and supporters of the Women’s Equality Act. We too want to ensure equal protection under the law for all women.
