Chapter 1: Sufi Tale and Rajput Heroism in Avadh
Chapter 1: Sufi tale and Rajput heroism in Avadh Introducfion The first available text of the Padmini story is Malik Muhammad Jayasi's Padmavat (composed c. 1540) in Avadhi (a dialect of Hindi spoken in modern east Uttar Pradesh). Heroic romances in which the prince embarked on a dangerous quest to woo and wed a princess of fabled beauty and riches, were common to many literary traditions in medieval north India. The Padmavat belongs with a range of Sufi mystical adaptations of this formula, written in Avadhi betvveen the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries. This discussion of the story explores the evolution of the genre, as it appropriates and reconstitutes elements from contiguous genres and literary traditions. The form and content of the poem must be contextualized within larger literary formations. Such an exploration uncovers not only the aesthetic but also social and historical functions of literary genre. Equally, this analysis of the Padmavat traces the ideology of gender it articulates, and its relationship with the poem's specific patriarchal contexts. These patriarchies are in tum implicated in wider historical contexts, as they uphold the specific caste and class relations defining a given political formation in sixteenth-century north India. The history of the Padmavat's manuscripts and their transmission indicates the generic horizons within which the poem was read in the medieval period. The manuscript traditions indicate that the Padmavat is clearly a Sufi poem, as has been apparent in one consistent strand in the history of its reception. As a Sufi 'tale of love,' it is deeply embedded and implicated in contemporary history and politics. -
Padmavati, the Legendary Woman,From Real to Reel Life
P: ISSN NO.: 2321-290X RNI : UPBIL/2013/55327 VOL-5* ISSUE-6* February- 2018 E: ISSN NO.: 2349-980X Shrinkhla Ek Shodhparak Vaicharik Patrika Padmavati, the Legendary Woman, From Real to Reel Life (A Historic-Analytical Perspective) Abstract Padmavati, the famous Rajput queen known for her historic jauhar (self-immolation) alongwith several of her companions because of Alauddin‘s evil-sightedness, is now probably the best feministic model for the Rajput women of Rajasthan. Her real life is full of idealistic landmarks that are almost unattainable by an ordinary woman. Her devotion to her husband and his families, her sense of self-respect and her strength of character-are an unrepeatable history. Every woman of Rajasthan is proud to belong to Rajasthan where Queen Padmavati once existed and won honour to the entire Rajasthani womanhood. Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s latest released movie Padmavat (originally Padmavati) has become horribly controversial because of certain changes of historical facts in the movie. The film hurt the feelings of the residents of Rajasthan, and particularly of the Rajput women to whom Padmavati has eversince been a role model. Knowingly or unknowingly, Bhansali through Deepika Padukon, has introduced the character of Padmavati with such personality traits as had nothing to do with real Padmavati. Designed on the secondary data and with an analytical approach, the research paper is a theoretical study. The data available in the books, journals, newspapers, filmy magazines and the internet sites served as the major source of information on the subject. However, all the steps of research were kept in mind while working on the theme Rachna Mehta historically. -

1 Beauty Through the Ages: Rajput Historical Memory and Honor As
Annie Wnuck 23 June 2018 Beauty Through the Ages: Rajput Historical Memory and Honor as they Relate to the Modern Controversies Surrounding Padmavat Introduction: All of the ways we choose to remember the past, which historical figures and events we honor and which we condemn or forget, help shape the current perception of our collective identity in the present. India in particular has an extensive, vivid history replete with tradition, conflict, innovation and beauty. It is no surprise, then, that many Indians today draw inspiration and a distinctive cultural identity from the past. In the recent Bollywood film Padmavaat, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali blends historical figures and fictional characters into a cinematically stunning, lavishly problematic film about a beautiful queen played by Deepika Padukone and an insatiable conqueror played by Ranveer Singh. Before analyzing the specific issues and controversies present in Padmavaat, I will begin by outlining the ways in which historical memory contributes to contemporary perceptions of national identity delve into some of the ways in which history is exaggerated or recast in order shape modern politics. The Significance of Historical Memory: In a recently published article in The Hindu entitled, A Brief History of Time, author Keerthik Sasidharan aptly observes that “Indians derive their self-conceptions of who they are from a variety of strong and weak commitments towards different social institutions that arose in a variety of historical contexts” (Sasidharan, 2018). Therefore, since issues of 1 historical memory are crucial to contemporary identity, there is so much at stake in terms which depictions of the past are thought of historical fact and which are regarded as legends. -
Padmaavat (2018) 188 Relações De Gênero E Nacionalismo a Partir Da História De Uma Rainha Hindu
Padmaavat (2018) Relations of gender and nationalism from the story of a Rajput queen.
