Friday Night Headline Band “Red Roots” This band is a really talented, great treat for the entire family! The lives of three, red-headed, identical triplet sisters are best summed up in the band Red Roots. With now a second album “Middle of Nowhere released, Red Roots has developed a sweet, pop-country sound while incorporating an inspirational message. Their journey of growth can be heard and seen through the band, but was ultimately shaped by their “roots” of family, faith, and music. Go to www.theredroots.com Saturday Night Headline Band “Halfway To Hazard” Halfway to Hazard is an American country music duo composed of singer-songwriters David Tolliver and Chad Warrix. Though Tolliver and Warrix grew up in different towns in southeastern Kentucky, their band's origins are in Hazard, Kentucky, which was halfway between their hometowns. Their debut single, "Daisy", was a Top 40 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs charts in 2007. The song was also featured as iTunes' single of the week on August 6, 2007. In addition, they toured as Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's opening act on their Soul2Soul 2007 Tour. McGraw helped to produce the album.[1] On October 14, 2007, the duo performed the national anthem prior to the Green Bay Packers' home game against the Washington Redskins.[2] Later that season they performed again at Lambeau Field for the Packers NFC Championship game against the New York Giants.[1] In May 2008, they were nominated by the Academy of Country Music for the Duo of the Year award. Halfway to Hazard toured again on the Live Your Voice tour with Tim McGraw and Jason Aldean. A single from their second album, "I Know Where Heaven Is," was released on July 20, 2009. The album, Come on Time, was released on October 19, 2009. Warrix released a solo music video, "Rain on the Roof," in 2012.[3] Tolliver now writes full time for Tim McGraw's publishing company, StyleSonic. He and Warrix had one song, "Die by My Own Hand," on McGraw's Emotional Traffic album and Tolliver has the song "Let Me Love It Out of You" on McGraw's Two Lanes of Freedom album. Running head: SEXISM ACROSS MUSICAL GENRES 1 Sexism Across Musical Genres: A Comparison Sarah E. Neff Western Michigan University SEXISM ACROSS MUSICAL GENRES 2 Abstract Music is a part of daily life for most people, leading the messages within music to permeate people’s consciousness. This is concerning when the messages in music follow discriminatory themes such as sexism or racism. Sexism in music is becoming well documented, but some genres are scrutinized more heavily than others. Rap and hip-hop get much more attention in popular media for being sexist than do genres such as country and rock. My goal was to show whether or not genres such as country and rock are as sexist as rap and hip-hop. In this project, I analyze the top ten songs of 2013 from six genres looking for five themes of sexism. The six genres used are rap, hip-hop, country, rock, alternative, and dance.

The Crockettsville festival attracted about 10,000 people last year, but some 25,000 came in 2009, when the big concert draws were country singers Tim McGraw and Dierks Bentley. McGraw’s company produced Halfway to Hazard’s debut album in 2007, and the duo opened for McGraw and wife Faith Hill’s two-year tour. Halfway to Hazard has been on a recording hiatus since 2010, although Warrix has promoted a solo single called Rain on the Roof. In March, the duo raised money for victims of the tornadoes that struck several Eastern Kentucky counties. “Halfway to Hazard is not over. We just decided to take a break for various personal reasons,” Warrix said. “David and I are still best of buddies, and we will always come together to do the Crockettsville event. August 2012 Newsletter ------------------------------------ Yesterday & Today Records P.O.Box 54 Miranda NSW 2228 Phone: (02) 95311710 Email:[email protected] www.yesterdayandtoday.com.au ------------------------------------------------ Postage Australia post is essentially the world’s most expensive service. We aim to break even on postage and will use the best method to minimise costs. One good innovation is the introduction of the “POST PLUS” satchels, which replace the old red satchels and include a tracking number. Available in 3 sizes they are 500 grams ($7.50) 3kgs ($11.50) 5kgs ($14.50) P & P. The latter 2 are perfect for larger interstate packages as anything over 500 grams even is going to cost more than $11.50. We can take a cd out of a case to reduce costs. Basically 1 cd still $2. 2cds $3 and rest as they will fit. Again Australia Post have this ludicrous notion that if a package can fit through a certain slot on a card it goes as a letter whereas if it doesn’t it is classified as a “parcel” and can cost up to 5 times as much. One day I will send a letter to the Minister for Trade as their policies are distinctly prejudicial to commerce. Out here they make massive profits but offer a very poor number of services and charge top dollar for what they do provide. Still, the mail mostly always gets there. But until ssuch times as their local monopoly remains, things won’t be much different. ----------------------------------------------- For those long term customers and anyone receiving these newsletters for the first time we have several walk in sales per year, with the next being Saturday August 25th.

  • Veteran Loses Friends, Gains Faith After Serving in Middle East, Raymond Frye Pursues a Renewed Life at Northwestern
Volume 85 - Issue 14 February 8, 2013 Veteran loses friends, gains faith AFTER SERVING IN MIDDLE east, RAYMOND FRYE PURSUES A RENEWED LIFE at NORTHWesteRN BY MEGAN CURRENT Veteran Raymond Frye joined the military as a teenager. He served for eight years as an infantry soldier, and he has been enrolled at Northwestern since January. Frye started attending a community college right after high school, but he later made the decision to join the military at the age of 19. His family was supportive of his decision. “I have a dad and uncle in the infantry, a brother in the Air Force and a cousin in the Marines,” Frye said. “I joined because of my sense of adventure.” Frye served as an infantry soldier in the Army and Air Force. He started his basic training at Fort Benning in Georgia. Frye trained for two months at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin in California before being deployed to Iraq. While deployed in Iraq, Frye was a combat soldier. Frye said he had several duties, which included apprehending high-value targets (looking for terrorists), providing security for convoys and helping eliminate villagers’ threats (terrorists). While Frye was in Iraq, he worked on two campaigns. The first mission, Operation Iraqi Freedom, was designed for combat operations, which included finding and killing terrorists. This mission is an ongoing battle that is still in effect today. The second mission, Operation New Dawn, didn’t work the way it was planned. “New Dawn was meant for hearts and minds. We trained the Iraqis for the military transition to allow their military to regain power,” Frye said.

The ratings before I got here were the worst 1998. In its short history, it has become one of the most back-to-back monthlies in the history of the Wolf. It didn’t honored, storied and imitated of all need a tweak that might get a three share; it needed a Country stations. Veteran programmer transformation to get back to the four’s and five’s and into John Sebastian was named PD of the a Top 3 position in 25-54 Adults. Cumulus Country outlet in mid-March, The Wolf was beginning to sound too much like and in a very short time has transformed KSCS and going off on some tangents that weren’t very the Wolf into a very different animal than mass-appeal. The station was misaligned, with a lot of architect and original PD Brian Philips promotions, events and concentrated efforts targeted to 18- birthed almost nine years ago. 34s and not 35-44s. Based on my knowledge of successful Country radio, if you don’t win 35-44, you’re dead. And Country Aircheck: What were your first impressions the Wolf was getting slaughtered 35-44. June 3, 2013, Issue 348 San Jose: Nurturing New Music If the movie Trading Places hasn’t settled the nature vs. nurture debate, perhaps the story of KRTY/San Jose and its partnership with the Rodeo Club will. Over the course of eight years, the station and 1,000-capacity bar have hosted country’s biggest names ... long before they really had names. The result is one of country’s most vibrant new music scenes. “Fans of their station are conditioned to not only embrace new music, but new acts,” says Stoney Creek VP/Promotion Chris Loss. “And they do so time and time again. And they do it with passion. I don’t know if there are any other stations that marry the on-air and live aspect better.” KRTY GM Nate Deaton breaks down the keys to the partnership’s success and recounts its remarkable history: “Probably like a lot of successful things, it got started quite by accident,” he admits. Initially, the station was hoping to find a new partner venue following the closing of local institution the Saddle Flatts Out: Big Machine’s Rascal Flatts get to know WNSH/New Rack, which had hosted everyone from Loretta to Garth. “We York’s John Foxx as the trio’s Live & Loud Tour kicked off at Jones tried a bar night at the Rodeo Club for a long time, it just never Beach in Wantagh, NY Friday (5/31). worked.
