Following the success of the previous conferences of ICNCT, next year 2018 ICNCT meeting returns once again to the Asia-Pacific. National Tsing Hua University, Taipei Veterans General Hospital and Taiwan Society of Neutron Capture Therapy and are pleased to host the 18th International Congress on Neutron Capture Therapy. Neutron capture therapy, especially the Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) for cancer, promises effective, non-invasive, cell-selective eradication of tumors at the molecular level, with minimum side effects and a non-cumulative, repeatable treatment capability in the event of tumor reoccurrence.

BNCT is an experimental radiotherapeutic modality based on the propensity of the boron-10 nucleus to capture a thermal neutron and fission into an alpha particle and lithium ion, both of which travel approximately one cell diameter, effectively killing the cell. The therapy involves selective delivery of the non-radioactive boron-10 isotope to the cancer tissue, followed by irradiation with low energy thermal or epithermal neutrons to the tumor tissue. BNCT had been used worldwide in clinical trials to treat patients with variety of cancers such as Head and Neck, Melanoma, brain, and liver cancers.

Clinicians and researchers from around the world will congregate in October, 2018, in Taipei, Taiwan, to feature their findings and generate new thought and discovery related to neutron capture therapy. The key areas will include the latest development in accelerator-based neutron sources, the next generation of boron-10 delivery agents, as well as the latest results in chemical, biological and clinical research. The international congress is composed of globally recognized scientists from industry and academia collaborating in pursuit of a common goal, a cancer cure.
