Car- retera México-Texcoco km 36.5, Montecillo, Texcoco, Estado de México, C.P. 56230 Abstract The metathoracic scent gland of 25-day-old adults of both sexes of the leaf-footed bug, Leptoglossus zonatus (Dallas) (Heteroptera: Coreidae), are described based on optical microscopy analysis. No sexual dimorphism was observed in the glandular composition of this species. The gland is located in the anteroventral corner of the metathoracic pleura between the middle and posterior coxal pits. The opening to the outside of the gland is very wide and permanently open as it lacks a protective membrane. In the internal part, there is a pair of metathoracic glands that consist of piles of intertwined and occasionally bifurcated cellular tubes or columns. These glands discharge their pheromonal contents into the reservoir through a narrow cuticular tube. The reservoir connects with the vestibule via two opposite and assembled cuticular folds that can separate muscularly in order to allow the flow of liquid away from the insect. The external part consists of an ostiole from which the pheromone is emitted. -

Unfortunately, farmers and crop-protection advisers finding egg masses of stink bugs during crop scouting frequently struggle to identify correctly the species based on their egg masses, and easily confuse eggs of the invasive H. halys with those of other (native) species. To this end, we have investigated using matrix-assisted laser desorption and ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) for rapid, fieldwork-compatible, and low-reagent-cost discrimination between the eggs of native and exotic stink bugs. Abstract: In the current paper, we used a method based on stink bug egg-protein immobilization on filter paper by drying, followed by post-(storage and shipping) extraction in acidified acetonitrile containing matrix, to discriminate between nine different species using MALDI-TOF MS. We obtained 87 correct species-identifications in 87 blind tests using this method. Chemical Analysis of the Metathoracic Scent Gland of Eurygaster Maura (L.) (Heteroptera: Scutelleridae)

Tuncer2 ABSTRACT Eurygaster maura (L.) (Heteroptera: Scutelleridae) is one of the most devastating pests of wheat in Turkey. The metathoracic scent gland secretions of male and female E. maura were analyzed separately by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Twelve chemical compounds, namely, Octane, n-Undecane, n-Dodecane, n-Tridecane, (E)-2-Hexenal , (E)- 2-Hexen-1-ol, acetate, Cyclopropane, 1-ethyl-2-heptyl, Hexadecane, (E)-3-Octen-1-ol, acetate, (E)-5-Decen-1-ol, acetate, 2-Hexenoic acid, Butyric acid, and Tridecyl ester were detected in both males and females. These compounds, however, differed quantitatively between the sexes. In both females and males, n-Tridecane and (E)-2-Hexanal were the most abundant compounds and constituted approximately 90% of the total content. In the case of insects, most published DNA barcoding studies focus on species of the Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera, Hymenoptera and especially Lepidoptera. In this study we test the efficiency of DNA barcoding for true bugs (Hemiptera: Heteroptera), an ecological and economical highly important as well as morphologically diverse insect taxon. As part of our study we analyzed DNA barcodes for 1742 specimens of 457 species, comprising 39 families of the Heteroptera. We found low nucleotide distances with a minimum pairwise K2P distance ,2.2% within 21 species pairs (39 species). For ten of these species pairs (18 species), minimum pairwise distances were zero. In contrast to this, deep intraspecific sequence divergences with maximum pairwise distances .2.2% were detected for 16 traditionally recognized and valid species. With a successful identification rate of 91.5% (418 species) our study emphasizes the use of DNA barcodes for the identification of true bugs and represents an important step in building-up a comprehensive barcode library for true bugs in Germany and Central Europe as well. -

Halyomorpha halys has not established itself in Australia, but it has been intercepted several times at the border, therefore future incursions and establishment are likely. There are few control options for this species and biological control may be a useful management method in Australia. This study summarizes the literature on natural enemies of H. halys in its native and invaded ranges and prioritizes potential biological control agents that could be suitable for use in Australia. Munis Entomology & Zoology, 7 (1): 607-616] ABSTRACT: During 2008-2010 several sampling was conducted to survey Stink Bugs (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae: Pentatominae) from Khodafarin county at North Western of Iran. Tottaly 22 species belonged to 11 genera and 6 tribes were determined. In additional to the faunistic study, distribution of all the studied species is reviewed and determination comments are specified for them. KEY WORDS: Stink Bugs, Pentatomidae, Pentatominae, Heteroptera, Khodafarin, Iran. Khodafarin region with the location of 38° ' to 39° 'N; 46°3 ' to 7° 'E is situated in littorals of Aras River at East Azarbaijan province. Aras is main branch of "Kura River" with most significant is located in North West of Iran. Total length of the river is about 1072 kilometers which 410 kilometers made as join border between Iran and Azerbaijan. Aras occupants around 2,100,000 km² of area which 39% situate in Iranian territory, 38% at Armenia & Azerbaijan soils and 23% from Turkeys land. -

However, the origin and early diversity of such expansions in Coreidae are 21 unknown. Here, we describe the nymph of a new coreid species from a Cretaceous 22 Myanmar amber. Magnusantenna wuae gen. et sp. nov. (Hemiptera: Coreidae) differs 23 from all recorded species of coreid in its exaggerated antennae (nearly 12.3 times longer 24 and 4.4 times wider than the head). -

This news- issue of The Tachinid Times. This is the largest issue of the letter accepts submissions on all aspects of tachinid biology newsletter since it began in 1988, so there still seems to be and systematics, but please keep in mind that this is not a a place between peer-reviewed journals and Internet blogs peer-reviewed journal and is mainly intended for shorter for a medium of this sort. This year’s issue has a diverse news items that are of special interest to persons involved assortment of articles, a few announcements, a listing of in tachinid research. Student submissions are particularly recent literature, and a mailing list of subscribers. The welcome, especially abstracts of theses and accounts of Announcements section is more sizable this year than usual studies in progress or about to begin. I encourage authors and I would like to encourage readers to contribute to this to illustrate their articles with colour images, since these section in the future. This year it reproduces the abstracts add to the visual appeal of the newsletter and are easily of two recent theses (one a Ph.D. and the other a M.Sc.), incorporated into the final PDF document. -

Los estudios citogenéticos en Heteroptera contribuyen al análisis de las tendencias evolutivas en el taxón. Los Heteroptera se caracterizan por poseer cromosomas holocinéticos, diferentes sistemas de cromosomas sexuales y un par de cromosomas m en algunas especies. En este trabajo describimos el cariotipo y la meiosis masculina de Sigara denseconscripta (Breddin), S. chrostowskii Jaczewski y S. rubyae (Hungerford). Las tres especies tienen un número diploide de 24, con un par de cromosomas m y un sistema de cromosomas sexuales XY/XX. Con estos resultados son 30 las especies de Corixoidea estudiadas citogenéticamente y el cariotipo modal de la superfamilia es 2n= 20+2m+XY en machos. La información citogenética disponible hasta el presente en Heteroptera nos permite sugerir que la presencia de cromosomas m y cromosomas sexuales XY/XX, serían caracteres plesiomórficos para Nepomorpha. La ausencia de cromosomas m en especies de Nepoidea y Ochteroidea, y los sistemas de cromosomas sexuales X0 y Xn0 (en machos) en especies de Corixoidea, Naucoroidea y Nepoidea, serían caracteres derivados que habrían surgido evolutivamente más tarde. -

Carpocoris (C.) coreanus is redescribed and an identification key to the species of purpureipennis group is provided. Concerning the genus Codophila, the synonymy Codophila varia (Fabricius, 1787) = C. varia longicornis de la Fuente, 1972 n. syn. is proposed, Codophila maculicollis (Dallas, 1851) is recorded from Morocco for the first time, and a new character of external morphology is illustrated, which allows a quick separation of the genera Carpocoris and Codophila. Several issues are discussed with regard to the generic complex of Holcostethus, the genus Enigmocoris Belousova, 2007 n. stat. is raised from subgeneric status, with E. fissiceps (Horváth, 1906) n. comb. The distribution of Palomena angulata, P. formosa, P. prasina and P. viridissima in the Iberian Peninsula and northern Africa is clarified and an identification key to the five Euromediterranean species of Palomena is provided.
