The first sport invented was wrestling. The one and only sport played in the First Olympics was “Foot race”. Soccer is being played over 2000 centuries.

When pilgrim ships first sailed into the harbors of Massachusetts in the 1620s, they discovered Native Americans playing a soccer-like game called pasuckuakohowog, meaning “they gather to play with the foot.” 2

Pre-nursery The month started with a fresh note on account of New Year. Kids also welcomed the New Year with lot of zeal and enthusiasm. The celebration continued with Sankranti celebrations. Different names of harvest festival were taught which were celebrated throughout India such as , Sankranti and Lohri. As the month ended kids are bucking up to write the RP4 and revision syllabus awaiting them.

Nursery Nursery along with academic curriculum completion and revision, enjoyed the festive season and celebrations in DPS Nacharam, with lot of excitement and fun. A very important directionality life concept, Left and Right was taught with a beautiful activity --- Letter L was formed by the teacher and learners, with one hand and Letter L was written with chalk on the L-formed fingers and letter R was written on the other hand with red pen to denote by default, as right hand. Picture addition activity was taught by involving the children by using ice-cream sticks, pencils, erasers, rubber bands, chalk pieces and cotton balls. “+” and “= “signs were cutout and given to each child to perform the individual activity of addition. The children loved and enjoyed sticking stars on black card while reinforcing the picture addition concept.

Prep Wow! One more month of celebration and festival in DPS. On one hand, we celebrated the famous and most celebrated festival of Telangana, that is, Pongal. On the other hand, our national festival that is our 70th republic day was celebrated with full enthusiasm, where 29 learners represented 29 states of India and repeated the slogan I love my country in different languages.

Also, curriculum for the academic year was completed.

Republic Day is celebrated to mark the day, when the Indian Constitution came to force. At Red fort, New Delhi, flag is hoisted by President Ramnath Kovind. The parade, held annually on January 26, starts from Rajpath and ends at Red Fort in Delhi.

DPS also celebrated its 70th Republic Day on January 26, 2019 expressing colours of patriotism with beautiful speeches in freedom fighter costumes. The tiny tots of Pre-primary bagged in loads of accolades of Chairman Sir, Principal Ma’am, Vice-Principal Mam’s, HM Ma’ams for their marvelous performance.

Sankranti – The festival of kites. The aura full of happiness, the breeze is full of colours, people are laden with colorful clothes and the boxes are full of laddoos. Kids are thronging to fly kites, neighbors are rushing to cut others kites, with fun all the way. Evenings are blessed with bonfires and families are dancing around and serving til (sesame seeds) preparations. Aren’t these spirits so joyous? That’s the elation of .

Makar Sankranti was celebrated in Paradise block with great pomp and show. The parents, grandparents and children were invited to participate in four competitions – dancing, singing, gardening and rangoli. Also, a common assembly was conducted as a part of pre-Sankranti festival celebrations, where in kids dressed up in dhotis and pattu langas and shared chekinaalu, ariselu and other mouthwatering, yummy festive foods with their peer group. The teachers spread awareness among the kids that we need to fly kites at terrace height level only, otherwise, we might hurt birds flying in the sky.

New Year is celebrated all over the world with great fun and enthusiasm. It is a special day for people. They bid good bye! to sad moments and welcome new year with loads of happiness. At DPS, New Year was celebrated in a common assembly with lot of excitement and fun. The children sang and danced in beautiful and gorgeous dresses to the heart throbbing NEW YEAR tunes.

Golf played on moon! Astronaut (and

golfer!) Alan Shepard played golf on the Moon after he brought a golf ball and club on to the NASA Apollo 14 mission to the Moon in 1971. Shepard only took a six-iron head and attached it to a lunar sample scoop handle! Shepard is, so far, the first and only interplanetary golfer.

ACADEMICS: As planned for the month

MINICHEF COMPETITION: 9th January The culinary talents of the little chefs were brought to the fore when they competed with their friends. The excited chefs surprised everyone with their exotic presentation and colorful lip smacking sandwiches.

Techno Paint Competition: Children were given topics and they made beautiful drawings using MS paint.

TRINITY STARS PROJECT: An innovative “First of its kind ever” in DPS- Nacharam, took place for 400 students of Class I & II. Every child had a language goal and a performance goal. In the former they were gauged on their clarity of speech and communication skills and in the latter on some talent. The examiner from Trinity was taken in by surprise at their level of excellence. Every child won the Trinity Star.

He participated in WIZ Spell Bee at National level and secured 30th rank all around India. He had secured 3rd rank at the state level.

SPECIAL ASSEMBLIES: SANKRANTI: 10th January Children came in ethnic wear to celebrate Sankranthi with their friends and teachers. The assembly hall was adorned with flowers, fruits, sweets, sugarcane, kites the list never ending. The Special Assembly showcased the rituals that are performed during this festival in different states of our country. Song and dance highlighted the joy and happiness of the festival.

TECHNO WEEK: 18th January As part of the special assembly conducted by Class-2, Ms. Ritu Rawat was invited to inform the students on the harmful consequences of using too much electronic gadgets.

PRE-REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS: To honor our Indian Constitution children came together to celebrate Pre-Republic day celebrations on 25th January. The little ones spread the flavor of patriotism with their speech and skits. The “Ramp Walk” presenting the 29 States of India won the hearts and mind of everyone.

A Special assembly was conducted by the students of Class 2, to celebrate Netaji’s 122nd birth anniversary. Students showcased the journey of Netaji’s life and his participation in the freedom struggle.

MOVIE TIME: An educational 3D movie was organized at the behest of the District Educational Officer for all students of Class-II.

CCE ACTIVITIES: Activities to Enhance Academic Learning EVS Activity: Sequence of Day and Night: Class-II An activity to show the sequence of the sun where students were asked to draw and show the position of the sun from its rising position to its setting position.

Air Experiment: Class-I Children blew Air into balloons to learn about the three properties of air. The class was filled with excitement and laughter and the learning happened with ease.

English Activity: Follow my directions: A fun way to understand the usage of prepositions by Class- II

Conjunction: Class- I Students learnt about Conjunctions by working on colourful strips of paper and later sticking them in their notebooks.

Math Activity: Shopping Spree: Class-I Children prepared a shopping list with items of their choice. This exercise helped them understand that money is used in different denominations and that different products have different cost.

Making a greeting card using patterns: Class-II The idea was to help them to understand how patterns can be used in various way in everyday life.

Language Activity: During the festive season of Sankranti, children stuck small kites in their classwork books and wrote a few sentences about it.

Show & Tell: To enhance speaking skills, children were asked to get any object and speak about it. It was good to see the children participate and speak confidently in Telugu.

New Year Special Assembly and resolution activity New Year celebration was celebrated in a unique way by the students of our school. Coming out from the casual way of celebrating it by cutting the cakes and cheering together, Students wrote their resolutions for the new academic year in the school campus in an eco-friendly way to send a message to the parent fraternity . The Principal and members of faculty appreciated the initiative taken by the students on this occasion.

Mini Chef Competition

The food education classes at the DPS, were wrapped up for term 2 with a mini chef competition between 40 teams of students from Grades 3 & 4.

All teams performed extremely well and presented tasty, attractive dishes using skills learnt throughout the program. All winners and participants received an award for their efforts

Sankranti Celebrations The celebration of Sankranti festival reached a crescendo by the students of classes 3 & 4 celebrated the festival in the school premises on 12th January, 2019.Makar Sankranti is known as Pongal in South India and as Maghi in North India. Makar Sankranti is all about prayers, sweets, and kites. The festival of Makar Sankranti is celebrated with great enthusiasm in all parts of India. The programme began with the recitation of a shloka by Primary students. The significance of the four days, Bhogi, Makara Sankranti, Kanuma, and Mukkanuma was explained by class 3 & 4 students. Various cultural programs depicted the significance of Sankranti, Gobbiyallu, Basavanna, Haridasu etc. Muthyala Muggullo. A dance by students had the audience spell bound. The students took part in the programme enthusiastically.

Pre republic Day Special Assembly

The 70th Pre Republic Day assembly was celebrated with patriotic fervor and gaiety in the school. The school choir Sung the ‘Patriotic songs and danced to the rhythmic beats of “Jai ho” by the students of Class IV enthralled the audience.

Intramurals What's the best way to open this school year's Intramurals other than heart-stopping cheer performances? The DPS Intramural Sports program is designed to encourage students to participate in a positive and structured sports activity during PET Periods at school. All students of class III & IV ensured 100 % participation in all the events following the rules provided. The physical education department proved their mastery in assessing the various skills of the students

Inter house dance competition “Dance is a delicate balance between Perfection and Beauty” Making it true an inter house dance competition was conducted on 11th January for grades III & IV at Delhi Public School, Nacharam. The stage came alive when all the students staged spectacular dances in the competition. The dance troupe of each house mesmerized their audience with their performances based on the theme ‘Western Dance’. The attractive costumes, fluid dance movements’ and fascinating props made it tough for the judge to decide the winner. The judge for the day was Mr. Sunil Timothy, who is a trained professional choreographer from Terrance Lewis Academy, Mumbai and a trainer for reality dance shows.

Techno week Celebrations With the easy access and increased use of the internet, security of personal information and assets has become a major concern for everybody. Taking the high risk of this exposure into consideration, Grades 3 & 4 organized a special Techno week assembly on cybersecurity the speakers shared their experiences and focused on securing passwords, safe online sites, new games and the policies to accept. They also shared some cookies with the students regarding the hacker and the symbols they can be aware of. The students learned some really important and valuable tips to practice in their daily life through the workshop that are sure to be of great use in the long-term.

Olympiads

Many students of grades 3 & 4 have secured ranks in various international and national Olympiads during the academic year 2018-2019.Classes III to IV competed, The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), National Science Olympiad (NSO) and National Cyber Olympiad (NCO), and secured several ranks as school adopted an activity-oriented methodology in classes that aided students in having a rich learning experience which in turn helped them stand out.

Events Sankranti Celebrations: Sankranti was celebrated with great enthusiasm showcasing the traditions and rituals of the three day festival namely Bhogi, Sankranti and Kanuma. Children dressed up in traditional attire and performed role plays, songs and dances to bring in the festive cheer. The Principal addressed the students regarding the importance of this harvest festival and how farmers are most important helpers.

Inter House Rangoli Competition As part of Sankranti celebrations Inter House Rangoli Competition was held in class VI level. Sapphire House were declared winners for the competition

HUMAN LIBRARY This, one of its kind and first ever ‘Human Library’ event in DPS Nacharam was held for the 3rd consecutive years students of class V as part of their Library Week. The objective behind it was to bring back the human touch and human interactions to the forefront as a powerful medium of gaining knowledge as against gaining knowledge in isolation through online and social media. Eminent people from various fields were invited to the school. Despite their busy schedule the dignitaries were willing to spend time with the young and curious learners. They were extended a warm welcome into the sprawling campus. After the formal introduction of the invitees they were escorted by the student council members to their respective venues to interact with the curious minds. Eminent scientists from research labs, educationists, IT expert, women entrepreneurs, fine arts professors, doctors, writers, bankers, chefs, actors,. The panel of Human Library this year had distinguished personalities from various fields. The resource persons introduced themselves and spoke about their work, their hobbies and motivated the students to become great citizens of their country. After the interactive session, the students thanked them for spending their valuable time with them. At the end of this innovative session students were totally inspired and understood the fact that human beings themselves are a rich repository of knowledge which they can any time access and enrich their minds.

A Visit to 'Alliance Française' (Class VI) The students of Class 6 were taken to 'Alliance Française' at Banjara Hills on the 21st of January 2019 to participate in an interactive session on French Culture and Heritage. They were warmly welcomed by the members of the prestigious institute and they began their day on a bibliophilic note, as spending time at the library which had a myriad collection of books spread across multiple genres. The students enjoyed solving jigsaw puzzles and were particularly attracted to the French Comics which enabled them to understand the local dialect and writings. They also spent time at the cafeteria which had a calm yet colourful ambience as it was equipped with picturesque paintings and delicacies like crepes and cakes. They were next taken to the auditorium where a documentary on the majestic monuments of France was showcased to the students. It was accompanied by a detailed account of each architecture, its importance and its history. This was followed by a short French animated movie which left the children in splits. Our students then presented their ideas in the form of speeches and a skit which emphasized their love for the language. They were then addressed by the Director Mme. Aude-Emeline and the Academic head Mme. Manisha. The students were extremely inquisitive and interacted with the Academic Director who patiently answered their queries to their utmost satisfaction. It was indeed a day filled with

28 novel experiences, informative exchanges and they returned to the school with great memories in their hearts.

Mini Chef Competition Mini Chef Competition was conducted for classes V to bring out and develop their culinary skills. The Mini Chefs surprised one and all with their exotic preparations and presentation styles.

Inter House Dance Competition

Inter House Dance competition was conducted on the theme ‘Folk Dances of India’. Children of all the houses put up a brilliant performance depicting the rich local folk heritage of our country. Mr. Nitin noted choreographer was the judge for the competition. The results are as follows: Ruby House – Winners Emerald House – 2nd Prize Sapphire – 3rd Prize Topaz – 4th prize.

Republic Day Celebration The 70th Republic Day was celebrated with full patriotic fervour. The Chairman of DPS along with Principal were welcomed by a guard of honour by the scouts and guides students. The Chairman unfurled the Flag and inspired the students to contribute towards their country by becoming good citizens. The Principal in her welcome address asked students to rededicate themselves to the ideals enshrined in our constitution. A colourful cultural programme was organized by the students of class V & VI along with speeches by students from Pre-Primary to Class V. Srivalli Rsahmika our class XII student and International Tennis Player addressed the gathering and motivated the students to give their best in academics, sports to improve their overall personality.

1. Arin Das of Class VI-N has been selected for an INSPIRE Awards of Rs.10000 for the year 2018-19. He will be participating in the district level exhibition and project competition to be organised by District Education Authority.

2. Sreehith Reddy of Class 5A participated in 17th DELHI INTERNATIONAL OPEN GRAND MASTERS CHESS TOURNAMENT and stood in 9th Position out of 1500 players participated in this tournament.

Curricular and Co-curricular report for the month of January 2019 Mahendra Hills

DPS Society report for January 2019 Pre-Primary: Almost nearing the end of the year, the students are becoming more independent. They are able to receive instructions and follow them through. As part of revision, the tiny tots are using the ear bud for dabbing on alphabets they are told. This is to assess their alphabet recognition ability.

Tracing on boards or sand activity is another way to revise alphabets. Students love moving out of their classrooms and sit out in the garden.

Nursery children enjoyed jumping on the Hindi alphabets and repeating the correct sound.

Crazy foot wear day was another “Thank God it’s Friday” activity. Hats off to some parents creative ideas. The students loved to show off their “crazy footwear”

Recently we concluded the RJ week where children had an opportunity to come and show their talents on the PA system through which they could address the whole school. Whether it was singing of songs, storytelling, and recitation or telling jokes. It was good to hear the tiny voices on the Public addressing system.

A new initiative this term was “Parent Drop in” where teachers of different classes called the parents of her class. Their wards took them around the class and explained what activities and learnings they have accomplished. The teachers were merely bystanders and only stepped in incase it was required. This was highly appreciated by the parents and they got a good insight as to what and how learning happens in the class rooms. Many a parents were pleasantly surprised at the way their children were confidently explaining.

Primary & Middle class

Hindi story telling competition was held at class 1 & 2 class level. The students used props to make their stories more interesting. The confidence of students is appreciable.

‘Makar Sankranti’ was celebrated with great zeal & vigor. All students from Pre Primary to Class VII came dressed in their traditional best. Students were in a festive mood and really enjoyed the program. The stage was embellished with flowers and rangolis to mark the celebration. A special Sankranti dance by Prep girls stole the show. The Bommalakoluvu, the Haridasu and the sight of little students showered with Bhogipallu was a perfect Sankranti treat to all. Classes 6 & 7 participated in the rangoli and state wise Pongal display. Students also enthusiastically took part in the kite flying activity in the Sports Ground.

Rangoli and Pongal competition by the students of class 6&7 where each class represented different states and they had to display the way Sankranti or Pongal was celebrated in that state. Right to the way of clothing, to the important parts of the celebrations, the dishes cooked; each group showcased beautifully. Some classes also included the songs and dances in those states. This was a beautiful way of learning about different states.

Mini chef competition was held for classes 1 to 5 wherein children showcased their talent in whipping up some amazing dishes. Seeing the “Chefs” at work was a treat. They took great pride in making their dishes and presenting them in a very creative way.

Birthday Gardens are flourishing as many a student are presenting saplings on their birthdays. The whole class is involved in planting the sapling and taking care of it.

As usual, the material collection during the “Care and share week” was very generous. Our sincere thanks to the Parents for the same. This collection drive was organized by the Outreach club. Class 3 & 4 Green Crusaders and DPS Chargers visited the orphanage to distribute the collections.

Presentation on emerging technologies in various fields was part of the Tech week celebrations. Students talked on different topics, show casing some projects and models made by them. Few students from the robotics club show cased their robots based on LOTS technology.

Students are given different opportunities to show case their talents through different Competitions held by outside organizations. Our students participated in Bhagwat Geeta Shloka competition held by the Chinmaya group. We had two winners at the District level. Arabi Rani who stood first and qualified for the State Level and Bhargav Kumar won third prize at district level. Both won cash prizes of Rs1000 and Rs500 respectively, Certificates and Books.

Our very own Master Magician Darsh Malani has been performing both internationally and all across India. He will be leaving for London soon to perform there too. He is the recipient for many awards, latest being “Our Pride award” by the Speaker herself.

Special assembly “Coffee with HM” was held by different classes this month. The special assembly followed by meeting the parents over a cup of tea helps in addressing many issues.

Class II-A Special Assembly

CII conclave at Gachibowli was attended by 12 teachers from the school. Many eminent speakers had been invited and the teachers could take away quite a lot of learnings.

Workshop on capacity building and inclusiveness in class rooms was held for the teachers by the councilor

Instead of the children going to the Planetarium, we had the planetarium come to School. It was a very unique experience for the students to lie down and see the videos. All classes from 2 to 7 were shown different videos as per their levels.

Karo sambhav project finally concluded with the Certification Program. Ms Lavanya got an appreciation certificate for maximum use of the Tool Kit. Tarun of class 7 received a certificate for maximum individual collection of E Waste. The students put up a small skit on waste which was much appreciated by the audience.

As part of the Internationalism project, the school had a cultural exchange with the Russian School, Roshchinski State School. Both the schools showcased their cultural programs. This was followed by the students talking to each other answering all queries. It was a real learning experience on both sides. Russian Culture exchange through skype our students

Curricular and Co-curricular report for the month of January 2019 Class: 7 & 8

Academic: The second term portion was completed by 31st January 2019. Teachers took classes in earnest to finish portion as per schedule. One hour classes were started from 17th of January. Remedial and enrichment classes were continued on working Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Test yourself questions were sent to parents as part of regular revision. Daily tests were started from 28th January 2019

Sankranti Celebrations: As part of Sankranti celebrations, a special assembly was conducted by the Telugu department. The significance of the festival of Pongal, Sankranti and Lohri was showcased beautifully through traditional songs, dances and special speeches. Inter House Music Competition was also held during the celebrations.

Inter House Rangoli and Flower arrangement Competition: Sankranti was indeed colourful with the Rangoli and Flower arrangement competitions held on 12th January as part of festival celebrations. The school celebrated color in all its glory.

Guest lecture: Class 8 students had a guest lecture on 19th January 2019. The lecture was given by Dr. Praveen Yada, Nuero Physician from KIMS hospital. The lecture revolved around the topic of first aid and its importance. It was a very meaningful and useful guest lecture as the students learnt how to react to basic health concerns like fainting, burns, injuries, falls, bleeding etc.

DPS Srinagar Teacher Exchange program: Delhi Public School Nacharam was excited to host the first of its kind teacher exchange program with Delhi Public School Srinagar, Kashmir. It was a unique initiative. The teachers spent around 8 days in the school from 17th January to 25th January 2019. It was an inter cultural cum educational exchange program. The teachers were exposed to a gamut of academic programs, cultural and literary exchange. It was a challenging fun cum serious blended learning. Art, music, dance, robotics, aeromodelling, , taekwondo, art camp, labs, Zumba, school cinema, pre-primary segment, Cambridge curriculum, aerobics, snooker, swimming, rifle shooting, academic teaching and model classes were all sampled by the teachers. Special PTM: In a continued effort to involve parents as partners for the academic performance of students, selected parents were called for a special PTM where in their ward’s present performance was reiterated and the need for extra effort stressed.

Cambridge Training Workshop: The school being an authorized center for Cambridge assessment English, training for FCE (first for schools) was conducted on 26th January 2019 by the team leader from Cambridge Ms. Rajeshwari.

Heritage Walk: The bright morning of 26th January 2019 saw a massive and exciting event- The Heritage Walk conducted by DPS Nacharam, Nadergul and Pallavi group of schools. Students of classes VII and VIII took part in the Heritage walk from the Charminar to The Falaknuma Palace, a distance of 4.7 km. The local MLA, the Mayor, the Mandal Revenue Officer, the Chairman Shri M. Komaraiah, Principal Ms. Sunitha Rao, Principal Ms. Padma Jyothi , Mr. Srikanth Director of operations, Vice Principal Ms. Gowri Venkatesh and other dignitaries were part of the Heritage walk. The walk was initiated to create awareness on

47 protection and conservation of monuments. The day was very significant as it was combined with a National festival, The Republic Day Celebrations. Thousands of students and teachers and students made the walk a great success.

Pariksha Pe Charcha: As part of Pariksha Pe Charcha, two students and a teacher were selected by from the school education board to be part of the group that would be presented before the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi for a question and answer session on the 29th January 2019. Many students watched the session in action from the DPS campus. The school is proud of Ms. Sandhya Ramakanth, Kush Kabra and Tejaswini for being selected to be part of the key group in Delhi.

Students were put to a Physical fitness and skill test by a panel of experts from the Physical Education Department (Osmania University and JNTU) and based on their certificates of achievement, scholarships will be given to students for the academic year 2019-20.

ACADEMICS ATAL YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS’ BOOT CAMP 2019 Students of DPS, Nacharam’s ATL Team Farm- Tech – Advaith Gowrishetty, Manikanta Chavvakula, Manish Mallapur along with their mentor Mr. M Subash attended Young Entrepreneur Bootcamp from 4th January to 6th January, 2019 in Gurgaon for boosting their Business pitching skills by using various speaking techniques and pitching frameworks. The program was organized by Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog for improving the pitching skills of the top 6 teams of Atal Tinkering Marathon, who would later give the final presentation of their product in NITI Aayog, New Delhi on the 11th of January 2019, which will be attended by corporate and government executives. The projects of the selected top 6 teams will be developed into a product.

CTF COMMERCE WORK SHOP FOR CLASS XII

A workshop for Accountancy and Business Studies for the students of class XII was held on 2nd January, 2019. The workshop was organized by Commerce Teachers Foundation for gearing up the students for the board exam. The students were divided into two groups to attend the workshop. The first session started with accountancy workshop by Mr. Gaurav Palia, M. Phil in accountancy. He briefed the students about the new changes in the syllabus and then discussed some of the important questions related to the subject. The second session was conducted by Ms. Mamta Narula, faculty for business studies, DPS, VASANT KUNJ. The session was enriching and fruitful as the students learnt various techniques to prepare effectively and efficiently for boards.

ASL FOR CLASS XI ASL (Assessment of Speaking and Listening) a subject enrichment activity was conducted in English for class XI students by the school in accordance with CBSE guidelines .

PTM FOR CLASS XII SCIENCE AND COMMERCE STREAM Viewing the upcoming Class XII Board exam, a PTM was conducted for the low achievers on the 19th January, 2019. Around 30 students’ parents from Science and Commerce stream had attended it. Then, the parents were addressed by both the Principal and the Vice Principal and later the coordinators and the counsellors. They guided all the parents on ways to monitor their wards’ studies and improve their academic performance and ways to boost up their confidence. They also spoke about the examination procedure and Academic support provided by the school. The parents then met the class teachers who explained their wards’ performance in academics and requested the parents to take care at home as well. NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS- COVERAGE IN THE HINDU “If you asked me for my New Year Resolution, it would be to find out who I am”- Cyril Cusack Times of India’s initiative New Year Resolution was to achieve a healthier, wealthier, happier person in the New Year. Krishanu Dey, a student of DPS, Nacharam had his resolution published in the paper as being the winner of the competition. A. S. Arnav, a class IX student won the second consolation prize.

On 21st January, 2019, PTM was conducted for Class X. Pre-board papers were shown to the parents and the students’ progress was discussed in detail. The Meet culminated with an orientation for parents of high achievers. Ms. Sunitha Rao, Principal addressed the gathering regarding the execution of Enrichment Plan in the classes and motivated the students to recognise their potential and raise the bar of expectation. Ms. Nandita Sunkara, Vice Principal shared significant tips on Time Management and practice of Model papers. They assured the parents that the school is preparing every student to ace board exam with confidence. Ms. Hima Bindu, Academic Coordinator shared previous Board results and forth coming events. She also answered few queries on Board Exam. The parents expressed their gratitude towards the school for supporting their wards in every possible way. PTM FOR CLASS 10 REMEDIAL GROUP The parents of the remedial group across all 10th class sections were called on 19th January. Principal ma’am addressed them regarding the details of uploading of internal marks and the way the parents have to support their children to gear up for the final board exams.The Vice principal discussed the trajectory of the students’ progress and spoke about parents’ immediate responsibility.

The coordinators answered the queries about the students’ progress and the other preparation strategies. The pre board answer scripts were given to the parents. The parents expressed their gratitude for all the support and also assured that they would take required measures to help their children do put up their best.

VERBA MAXIMUS (BITS HYDERABAD)

16 students of class XI from DPS, Nacharam participated in Verba Maximus organized by the students of BITS Hyderabad. It was held on 19th & 20th January, 2019. The fest unfolded a variety of literary and non- literary events before the students. The students showcased their talents in about four to five events and they were well mentored by Ms.Vidya, faculty of English, DPS, Nacharam. Nikita Dhingra and Apoorva J. secured the third position in Linguathon (a multi- lingual quiz) along with a cash prize. Hasmitha Daruri won the second prize in Group Discussion. Sivani Y. and Diya Waghmare also qualified for the semifinals of Bamboozled (a general knowledge quiz). Anoosha, Hasmitha and Nikitha as a team bagged the first position in Guess the Ad Anyway. Appreciation and participation certificates were awarded to all the students. At the end of the two days event, the students felt immensely motivated and reignited in their literary passion.

MERIT SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

The fifth Merit Scholarship Award process was held at Delhi public School Nacharam and Mahendra Hills on Sunday the 27th January, 2019.The Scholarship was open for all school students in the twin cities. The category of awards included academic excellence, sports and co-curricular areas. More than three hundred students participated in the event.

DPS, Nacharam gears up for the commencement of Class XII board Practical exams. The importance of practical knowledge in education cannot be over emphasized. Every experiment is like a weapon which must be used in its particular way. Practical education helps one to learn better. One can experiment and deviate from the standard results. 16 board exam practicals are in progress. LIFE SKILLS OLYMPIAD

Life Skills Olympiad was conducted on 27th January, Sunday. It was an online examination with an enrollment of 215 students from DPS Nacharam. As it was open to 100+ countries the server couldn't take the traffic and it crashed. Due to this many students were unable to finish the exam. The organisation has re-scheduled the exam to 9th & 10th of Feb, 2019. On 28th Jan, the students were handled by Ms. Rishitha and other members of Health & Wellness department level wise to ensure that the latest updates from the organization were shared with students. NCO (National Cyber Olympiad) International Cyber Olympiad (SOF) was conducted on 31st January, 2019 for the classes I to XII in our school. Around 350 students had taken the exam.

ICSO (International Company Secretaries Olympiad) The SOF ICSO is conducted in partnership with The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, a statutory body under

56 an Act of Parliament, under the administrative control of The Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi. The exam was conducted in the school on the 31st of January, 2019 for Classes XI & XII. 104 students had taken the test. TIMES NIE MONTHLY QUIZ – DECEMBER Times NIE (News in Education) monthly quiz for the month of December was conducted in the school premises for class 9. About 50 students took part in the quiz. Times NIE has taken an initiative of conducting monthly quiz in schools to make the students aware of the current affairs and to expand their knowledge beyond the textual knowledge. CBSE REGIONAL LEVEL SCIENCE EXHIBITION 2018-19 CBSE REGIONAL LEVEL SCIENCE EXHIBITION – 2018- 19 was held at Meridian School, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad on the 22nd & 23rd January, 2019. The theme was ‘Scientific solutions for challenges in life’ to motivate and nurture the scientific talent among students. Nearly 85 CBSE schools across all four southern states and schools from twin cities had participated in the exhibition to put forward their innovative ideas. Ch. Manikanta of class 11 and Naga Sai Karthikeya, Navya Mitnala and Nikhita Makam of class 9 had participated in the competition. Navya Mitnala and Nikhita Makam of class 9 got selected among the top five teams in the regional level under the Sub- theme “Health and cleanliness”. They designed an innovative exhibit on the project “HOMEOSTATIS– Infographic to beat extreme heat” supported by a SURVEY in a hospital, field and collected practical data. The students were guided by their science teacher Mrs. S.Ramadevi and computer science H.O.D Mr. Subash and supported by the school principal, vice-principal, science HOD and the entire science, computer and art department.

EVENTS -“PARIKSHA PE CHARCHA” WITH PM

DPS, Nacharam students cherished a wonderful opportunity in the second edition of Hon’ble Prime Minister’s interaction with a cross-section of school Students, Teachers and Parents on the 29th of January, 2019 with his initiative “PARIKSHA PE CHARCHA 2.0”. An online portal was opened from the 7th to the 17th of January for the students, teachers and parents to participate in the competition such as Catchy Caption Contest, I am Inspired Contest (for students), Teachers’ thought and Learning from My Exam Warriors (for parents) . Two students of DPS, Nacharam, Kush Kabra of Class X and Tejaswini of Class XI represented the school at the main event where they directly interacted with the PM in Talkatora Stadium, Delhi. They were accompanied by Ms. Sandhya Ramakanth, a teacher of DPS but represented as a parent representative. PM interacted with around 2,000 school students who had gathered from across all States and Union Territories at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi to enlighten students in assessing their strengths and weaknesses and to not let any opportunity go worthless. The team that represented the school was delighted by the interactive session and reminisced the effects generated by Modi’s invaluable speech which ended with an exuberant note and served as an efficacious confidence booster for the present generation.

ACTIVITIES: ANNUAL INTER SCHOOL MATH E-MAGICIAN COMPETITION

Pallavi Schools in association with NIIT nguru had hosted MATH - E - MAGICIAN, an Inter School Quiz Competition at Pallavi School, Boduppal on 25th January, 2019. Four Secondary schools were invited for the quiz. Three students of DPS, Krishanu of Class VIII, Ruthvik of Class IX and Sathvik of Class X had participated in the event. They were

ably directed by their escort teacher Ms. Pushpa Latha, Math faculty. The students had to cross five levels in order to win the competition. The school bagged the runners up position. The students were happy and excited to participate in the event.

VIHE “YUVASANGARSH” GRAND FINALE “History has always been shaped by the power of youth” – Daisaku Ikeda On the 6th of January, 2019 the Grand Finale of “Yuva Sangharsh 2018” was conducted at Vivekanand Institute of Human Excellence (VIHE) – Hyderabad. Many students from twin cities had participated. ‘Yuva Sangharsh’ was a Personality Development contest. A series of rounds, where Personality and Leadership Qualities were tested over a period of five months. Participants were given certain topics to speak upon, which were then assessed by the Judges. Topics were generally related to Youth Empowerment, National Problems, or any other topic requiring mental analysis, and Thinking. Mohammed Omer Faizan, a Class XII student of DPS, Nacharam secured second position out of the twenty three finalists. The students reported that the contest gave them an amazing platform for self-assessment and overall Development.

INTRACLASS RANGOLI, KITE AND TORAN MAKING COMPETITIONS

On the eve of the auspicious Sankranti, students of classes IX –XII geared up to welcome not just the cheer of Makar Sankranti but also to convey the greetings of Pongal. It was indeed the most joyous occasion to see all classrooms aggrandized with spectacular rangolis, fluttering kites and beautiful torans.

ANANYA'S PERFORMANCE AT INAUGURATION Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated once in every two years to strengthen the engagement of the overseas Indian community with the Government of India and reconnect them with their roots. The theme of PBD Convention 2019 is "Role of Indian Diaspora in building New India". Special arrangements were made for participation in Kumbh Mela, where Polsani Anaya, a class IX student of DPS, Nacharam, got a wonderful opportunity to showcase her talent in front of dignitaries like Tara Gandhi and Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi. Her performance was held on the 22nd of January, 2019 in Varanasi, along with her Guru Smt. Voleti Rangamani. They staged a temple ritual dance called “Simbanandi”, in which they drew a lion with their feet according to the Jathi. She captured the hearts of all the people who witnessed her performance.

CLASS X’s EXCURSION TO “WONDERLA”

Amid hectic preparations for their Board Exams, the class 10 students went on an excursion to Wonderla on 25th January, 2019. It was planned as a stress buster and to give a much needed break to the students. 425 students participated in the excursion. They were addressed by Ms. Sunitha Rao, Principal and Ms. Nandita Sunkara, Vice-Principal wishing them the best of times and fond memories. The instructions regarding safety and discipline were given by Ms. Surekha, Academic Coordinator of Class 9. The students were escorted by their 25 class teachers and auxiliary teachers. The students had a wonderful time trying out the various rides and interacting with their teachers and friends.

REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS: 26th JANUARY, 2019

Mr. M. Komariah, Chairman of DPS, along with Ms. Sunitha Rao, Principal and Ms. Nandita Sunkara, Vice-Principal, felicitated Shrivalli Rashmika, a class 12 student of 2018-19, on Republic Day for her ace tennis skills and also winning the Roland Garros Junior wild card entry from India. Shrivalli also addressed the gathering and shared her experiences in the national and international arena. Her message to the students in particular was to strive hard for success and to maintain a balance with academics at the same time. CENTRE FOR DNA FINGER PRINTING & DIAGNOSTICS– OPEN DAY Fifteen students of class X DPS, Nacharam along with Ms. Asha Sharma, biology faculty, visited CDFD (Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics) during their Open Day on the 28th of January, 2019. The students were apprised about cell division, genetically modified plants, genetic disorders, gene mapping and human karyotype, microbial “languages”, ways to prevent its communication and the DNA fingerprinting of chemicals among other topics. They also visited the Sophisticated Equipment Facility to see the machines and instruments used to view the very basis DNA. Later, they examined the confocal microscopes, a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) machine that amplifies strands of DNA and also a DNA Sequencing machine3730. The out-of-textbook scientific exposure was elucidating for everyone.

As this was the first assembly of the year 2019-20 the theme was "New Beginnings" The anchors covered a wide range of topics that could help in positively bring in the new year which included sports, sharing and caring, spending quality time with family and friends etc., This was also presented in the form of a skit. The school is proud of Rohan Boddula- a young prodigy, who is a champion in the making. He had taken interest in the Rifle Shooting at a very young age and has been participating in various championships at state and national level. The success stories of Rohan’s are that he had won the First Place in CBSE South Zone Championships, won Silver in SFA Games in U-17 and U-19 categories, participated in 28th AG Mavlankar Shooting Championship and got qualified to participate in the 62nd National Shooting Championship Competitions, represented Rangareddy district in Telangana SGFI State Championship and Telangana state in the SGFI National Shooting Championship, where he scored very well. He has achieved the minimum qualifying score (MQS) in recently concluded 62nd NATIONAL SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITIONS (NSCC) and got selected for Selection Trails (selection process for National Team). Premier Skills Diploma course for football coaches organized by British Council & Telangana Football Association held on 26th January, 2019 held at DPS Nacharam was attended by 31 coaches (24 men and 7 women). Premier Skills is an international collaboration project between the Premier League and the British Council, which uses football as a tool to develop a brighter future for young entrepreneurs around the world. Mr.G.P.Phalguna, Secretary, Telangana Football Association emphasized on the role that coaches can play in shaping football talents. School Vice-Principal, Ms. Nandita Sunkara graced the occasion and stressed that the school is willing to host many more events in future too. DPS’ INITIATIVE “JOY OF GIVING” IN NEWS “Discover the joy of giving and you will discover the reason for living”- Mark Victor Hansen Soaking in the spirit of “Sharing is Caring” DPS, Nacharam had conducted ‘The Joy of Giving day on 29th of December, 2018 for community service. This event was the initiative of the Social Studies department under the guidance of Ms.Sunitha Rao, Principal. The chief guest was Mr Nagaprasad, the founder of Tejas foundation for the blind children. The motto of the school ‘Service Before Self’ resonated in encouraging civic responsibilities in the students and inculcating the spirit of giving back to the community. DELF EXAM 2018-19 Baidic Sarkar, a class X student, has cleared International French Exam DELF A1. Diploma in French Studies is a certification of French- language abilities for non-native speakers of French administered by the International Centre for French Studies, Centre international détudes pedagogies, or CIEP, for France’s Ministry of Education. Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) - Telangana had organized ‘School Excellence Conclave’ with the theme ‘Empowering Teachers to become Leaders’ 5th January, 2019 at TCS Auditorium, Hyderabad. It was attended by Ms. Meenu, CCA in-charge. The four key sessions during the day were Inaugural session – Developing the future leaders, Current opportunities and challenges, Session on Emerging Trends in Education and Workshop on “Nurturing School Leadership”. During the second session, Mr M. Komaraiah, Chairman of DPS, was one of the panelists. Sir’s Punch line: “Train your first benchers to be researchers and back benchers to be all-rounders” was extremely appreciated. The workshop was very enriching and educative with a panel of highly qualified and experienced speakers and educationists. “DEBATING” WORKSHOP AT SUCHITRA A workshop was conducted for the teachers on Training the Students for Debates at Suchitra Academy on the 23rd of January, 2019. The objective was to train students specifically for 'World's Scholar's Cup', which is an international event. The resource person was Mr. Tishin Moody, the debating coach from South Africa. The regional round for Hyderabad region is going to be held on 3rd & 4th of April in Suchitra Academy.

ICTRC had organized a workshop for teachers on the 30th of January, 2019. The topic was Addiction in School Children- New Age Challenges”. It was attended by Ms. Anuragini, Dept of Psychology. The session began with the introductory speech by Prof. Keshav Singh, National Coordinator, ICTRC explaining how the education system has changed past 15 years and how 21st century learner is difficult to be engaged. Teachers have to incorporate different techniques to handle their students matching their needs and frequency. Dr VS Ravindran initiated the theme by differentiating addiction from habit and added addiction itself is an incapacitating and debilitating condition and there is nothing called as good addiction. Hence there is a need to educate, create awareness in the students & parents before this epidemic hits them. Session was finally concluded by explaining the benefits of project paradigm partnership and the different modules that benefits the school and students.
