NINGURA NAPURRULA

Ningura wurde um 1938 in Watulka, südlich der Gemeinde Kiwirrkura geboren. Sie heiratete Yala Yala Gibbs Tjungurrayi. Mit ihm und ihrem kleinen Sohn Morris gingen sie, nachdem sie Jeremy Long von der Wohlfahrt getroffen hatten, zur Gemeinde Papunya.

Ningura malte ihre ersten Gemälde für Papunya Tula Artists im Jahre 1996 und stellte ihre Werke noch im selben Jahr aus. Ningura arbeitete 1999 an dem gemeinschaftlichen Gemälde der Kintore Frauen mit, das im Rahmen des „Western Desert Dialysis Appeal“ (Dialyse Aufruf der Western Desert Region) entstand.

Im Jahre 2003 wurde sie zusammen mit vier anderen Künstlern von Papunya Tula ausgewählt, eines ihrer Gemälde als internationale Briefmarke für die australische Post zu präsentieren. Ningura wurde 2004 als eine von acht indigenen Künstlern ausgesucht, ein Beispiel ihrer Arbeit in die Architektur des Musée du Quai Branly in Paris einbeziehen zu lassen. Dieses Museum wurde im Juni 2006 eröffnet und beherbergt die fran- zösische Sammlung von Kunst aus Afrika, Asien, Ozeanien und Amerika.
