The discussion will feature information on programs adminis- tered by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity in partnership with cities, including the Competitive Flor- ida Partnership, Community Development Block Grants, Rural Economic Development Initiative and Community Planning. This workshop will be especially helpful for cities with limited resources that need economic development assistance. Mobile wireless providers are having to adapt and grow their wireless infrastructure to account for increased custom- er demands, 5G to enable “Smart Cities” and other new technologies. Now that more people use smartphones to stream videos and surf the web, wireless carriers want to put additional lower-power antennas closer to the ground so that fewer people will connect to each one, resulting in 6 less network congestion. Local governments are now faced with regulating how and where additional communication infrastructure is installed, while balancing industry needs and city residents’ aesthetic and safety concerns. This workshop will provide a broad overview of Florida’s property tax structure and discuss the impacts of those reforms. Property tax reform is expected to be a hot topic in 2017. Come learn more about this important issue and how it could impact local government revenues.
