ANSWERS ATTORNEY GENERAL Attorney General: Overtime Jon Trickett: [272746] To ask the Attorney General, what estimate he has made of the amount of unpaid overtime worked by staff in his Department in the last 24 months. Lucy Frazer: The Attorney General’s Office does not pay overtime, however the department does offer a flexi time policy to support time off in lieu on an individual basis. Flexi time is individually agreed with line managers to maintain working hours in line with the Working Time Regulations 1998. As there is no central record of working hours, the Attorney General’s Office has

    The Rt Hon Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP Minister of State for Business, Energy and Clean Growth Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy 1 Victoria Street Westminster London SW1H 0ET CC: John Pettigrew, CEO of National Grid Fintan Slye, Director of National Grid ESO Jonathan Brearley, CEO of OFGEM 23rd March 2021 Dear Anne-Marie, RE: REQUEST TO SUSPEND BRAMFORD-TWINSTEAD CONSULTATION We write as MPs representing communities directly affected by the current proposals to build new electricity pylons on the Bramford-Twinstead route (known as ‘BTNO’ in National Grid parlance), and by the recently revealed plans for new pylons from Norwich to Tilbury (known as AENC, north of Bramford; ATNC south of Bramford). It is now clear that ATNC could well be delivered as a further ‘reinforcement’ of the Bramford-Twinstead route itself, implying the current consultation on BTNO is not giving ourselves or our constituents anything like the ‘full picture’ upon which to consult. We therefore request that you instruct National Grid and National Grid ESO to suspend the current consultation on BTNO until the route for AENC/ATNC has been established and publicised, so that the consultation on BTNO can take place with all communities and stakeholders able to engage in a position whereby they are fully informed of the total cumulative impact of proposals to build new electricity pylons in the locale. Explanatory Note The image on the following page provides a background explanation as to why the newly annoucned AENC/ATNC proposal is so directly relevant to the existing BTNO consultation. The key point is that stakeholders have been aware of the current proposals for BTNO for some time.

We are writing to you as a cross-party group of MPs concerned at the situation facing the weddings industry. A few weeks ago, the UK Weddings Taskforce presented a stark picture to us, with many of their businesses on the brink of collapse. This is despite pent-up demand and record bookings for the year ahead, worth £25 billion. There are 60,000 businesses and 400,000 workers relying on this sector and it is worth an average of £14.7 billion to the UK economy each year. Yet it requires urgent attention and bridging support to stay solvent, fulfil upcoming bookings, maintain jobs, and boost the economy when restrictions are lifted. The industry has been able to postpone the majority of its 2020 revenue, but without confidence about when weddings can restart, at a reasonable capacity, cancellations are increasing and the ability of wedding businesses to survive is diminishing by the day. First, the sector needs more information about the year ahead, including whether, after Easter, venues will be allowed more than 50 guests. Confidence is the most important factor in calculating spend, preventing cancellations and securing new bookings. Government engagement would not cost the Treasury and would help both consumers and the sector. Second, the sector needs an urgent cash injection to keep it going until reopening. The Weddings Taskforce has identified that cash grants of up to £10,000 would support up to 38,000 wedding businesses to survive until 1st April, and grants of between £10,000 and £40,000 would support a further 22,000 businesses.

    Invest, Don’t Cut The predicted impact of Government policy on funding for schools and academies by 2020 A report by NUT and ATL This report presents findings from an NUT / ATL interactive website which demonstrates the likely impact on schools and academies of the Government’s current school funding policies and its plan to redistribute existing funding between schools in England - www.schoolcuts.org.uk The interactive website allows users to access detailed predictions for every school’s funding per pupil in real terms, as affected by the Government’s proposal to implement a new funding formula for schools alongside a freeze in funding per pupil and cost increases imposed by Government. The predictions are based on publicly available government data and the most robustly constructed proposed funding formula for schools currently available. With schools already struggling to cope, the Government plans what the Institute for Fiscal Studies has described as the largest real terms cut in school funding in a generation. We know that children are already suffering – class sizes are rising, curriculum choices are being cut, pupils with special educational needs and disabilities are losing vital support and school staff are losing their jobs. Instead of investing more money in education to address the funding shortages already hitting schools and academies, the Government plans only to move existing money around the country through a new funding formula. For every school which gains from this, others will lose – and almost every school will lose when the impact of inflation and other cost increases, against which the funding freeze offers no protection, are also taken into account.
