South Tyneside is a special place. With breath-taking natural assets, an award-winning built environment, good connectivity, a strong family-friendly living offer including affordable housing and good schools, and close-knit, safe communities – we have a lot to be proud of. Our overarching ambition is to raise prosperity for residents and we aim to do this by using our strategic assets to further grow our economy, improve our living environment and connect our people and places. Proper planning is a key part of getting this right. This Local Plan proposes a strategy for the future development of the Borough up until 2036. It will ensure that new development and growth is delivered in the right places. The plan seeks to manage change in a positive way; providing for the future needs of our community whilst protecting those assets that make our Borough special. The Plan supports the delivery our 20 Year ‘Hello Tomorrow, Change is Happening’ Vision from 2010 which has already delivered dramatic changes to the physical environment through: high quality regeneration schemes; the completion of more and better homes; an Area Action Plan to deliver thousands of new jobs at the International Advanced Manufacturing Park; and, Improved Leisure, cultural and heritage facilities which have supported increased visitor numbers. We have come a long way and we want to continue to build on this progress. This 8 week consultation continues to give you the opportunity to tell us what you think about our plan for South Tyneside to continue to be ‘an outstanding place to live, invest and bring up families’.     June 2021 North East region Initial proposals summary Who we are and what we do The Boundary Commission for England (BCE) is an independent and impartial non‑departmental public body, which is responsible for reviewing Parliamentary constituency boundaries in England. The 2023 Review We have the task of periodically reviewing the boundaries of all the Parliamentary constituencies in England. We are currently conducting a review on the basis of legislative rules most recently updated by Parliament in 2020. Those rules tell us that we must make recommendations for new Parliamentary constituency boundaries by 1 July 2023. While retaining the overall number of constituencies across the UK at 650, the rules apply a distribution formula that results in an increase in the number of constituencies in England (from 533 to 543). The rules also require that every recommended constituency across the UK – apart from five specified exceptions (two of them in England) – must have an electorate that is no smaller than 69,724 and no larger than 77,062. Initial proposals We published our initial proposals for the new Parliamentary constituency boundaries in England on 8 June 2021. Information about the proposed constituencies is now available on our website at www.boundarycommissionforengland.independent.gov.uk What is changing in the North East region? The North East region has been allocated 27 constituencies – a reduction of two from the current number. Our proposals leave two of the existing 29 constituencies wholly unchanged, and 11 with only minor substantive changes of one to two wards. As it has not always been possible to allocate whole numbers of constituencies to individual counties, we have grouped some county and unitary authority areas into sub‑regions, based on the relatively recently created combined authorities, which encompass the entire North East region.

It describes the processes that are in place and sets out the measures currently being considered to improve air quality within South Tyneside as a whole, and specifically those areas declared as Air Quality Management Areas (AQMA) . This plan forms part of the Local Air Quality Management (LAQM) process and is required following the observed exceedances of the annual mean air quality objectives for Nitrogen Dioxide in two areas of the Borough (Boldon Lane / Stanhope Road and the A19 / Leam Lane). The main aim of the Air Quality Action Plan is to propose and deliver viable measures that will work towards achieving the desired reductions in Nitrogen Dioxide to meet the prescribed air quality objectives (Appendix 1) . Pollutant emissions within South Tyneside are largely linked to road transport and in line with government guidance, the Council will seek to incorporate its final Air Quality Action Plan into the next revision of the Tyne and Wear Local Transport Plan (LTP3). South Tyneside Council is also working closely with other Tyne and Wear Authorities on implementing the Tyne and Wear Local Air Quality Strategy, Local Transport Plan and its associated Air Quality Delivery Plan.

Call no.: MS 892 Collection overview Brother David Steindl-Rast was born Franz Kuno in Vienna, Austria, in 1926. He discovered The Rule of St. Benedict as a young man, which sent him on a search for an authentic version of Benedictine practice. This search brought him through the Second World War in Vienna, where he earned a Ph.D from the University of Vienna in 1952 and to the Mount Savior Monastery in Elmira, New York, where he became a monk in 1953. Along with his friend Thomas Merton, Brother David is one of the most important figures in the modern interfaith dialogue movement, leaving Mount Savior in the mid-1960s to study Zen Buddhism with Hakuun Yajutami, Shunayu Suzuki, and Soen Nakagawa. He was the first Benedictine to learn directly from Buddhist teachers and received Vatican support for his bridge-building work in 1967. Through Merton, Brother David met Thich Nhat Hanh, who introduced him to the peace movement and grounded Brother David's spirituality in a tradition of activism. When not in seclusion, Brother David has served as a teacher of contemplative prayer, the intersection of Zen and Catholicism, and gratefulness as a spiritual practice. Through many books and articles, lectures, and residencies in spiritual centers like Tassajara and the Esalen Institute, Brother David has developed an influential philosophy and much of the current popularity of mindfulness and Zen-influenced living and activism owes a debt to his teachings.
