PREFACE This subject was chosen with a view to recording the work done by women in various phases of the freedom struggle from 1857 to 1947. In the course of my study I found that women of India, when given an opportunity, did not lag behind in any field, whether political, administrative or educational. The book covers a period of ninety years. It begins with 1857 when the first attempt for freedom was made, and ends with 1947 when India attained independence. While selecting this topic I could not foresee the difficulties which subsequently had to be encountered in the way of collecting material.

Ans) (d) Explanation: The Fifteenth Finance Commission (XV FC) has submitted its interim report for the period FY 2020- 21 and the Government of India has accepted its recommendations in respect of the Rural Local Bodies (RLBs). The commission has recommended the grant of Rs.60,750 cr for the period FY 2020- 21 for RLBs which is the highest ever allocation made by the Finance Commission in any single year. On 17th June, 2020, Ministry of Finance released the first instalment of Rs.15187.50 crore, as grants- in-aid, in respect of 2.63 lakh RLBs located in 28 States of the country. NK Singh is the chairman of 15th finance commission. 2. Ans) (c) Explanation: The Reserve Bank’s affairs is governed by a central board of directors(BoD). The board is appointed by the Government of India in line with the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. The central BoD consists of 21 members. Currently RBI’s central board has 15 directors, including the Governor and three Deputy Governors. 3. Ans) (d) Explanation: EvaristeNdayishimiye won the presidential election of Burundi held on May 20 and to swear in as president in August 2020. 4. Ans) (c) Explanation: Indian economist, philosopher and Nobel Laureate Amartya Kumar Sen (86) has been selected for 2020 Peace Prize by the Board of Trustees of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade for his decades-long work around issues of global justice. He will be presented with the award by German Publishers’ and Booksellers’ Association, Borsenverein in a ceremony that will take place on October 18, 2020, in Paulskirche (Germany) & will be broadcast live on German public television.

    LAL QUILA/RED FORT COMPLEX Red Fort, popularly known as Lal Qila, was constructed by Shah Jahan in the 17th Century. • The fort complex served as the residence of Mughal Emperors for nearly 200 years, until 1857. • It was designed by architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri and Ustad Hamid. • The fort lies along the Yamuna River. • Its construction began in the sacred month of Muharram, on 13 May 1638, and was completed in 1648. • It has a perimeter of 2.41km. •The fort is built using red sandstone and has an oblong octagonal plan. • It has 2 principal gates – Lahore Drawaza and Delhi Darwaza along its western and southern sides respectively. Key Features •The fortress is in the shape of a rectangle 900m by 550m. • The rampart is about 34m high. • A moat surrounds the rampart. • Two of five gateways of the fort are three – storeyed structures flanked by octagonal towers. • These are the Lahori Gate and the Delhi Gate. • Figures of two huge elephants flank the Delhi Gate. • The main entrance to the fort is through the Lahori Gate. • A covered passage with shops on either side leads to the places inside the fort. Rampart - a defensive wall of a castle or walled city, having a broad top with a walkway and typically a stone parapet. •The Red Fort's boundary walls are asymmetrical to contain the older Salimgarh Fort. • The fortress-palace was a focal point of the medieval city of Shahjahanabad, which is present-day Old Delhi. • Its planning and aesthetics represent the zenith of Mughal creativity prevailing during Shah Jahan's reign.

    GROUND WATER YEAR BOOK UTTAR PRADESH (2014 - 2015) Foreword Groundwater on account of its universal availability, dependability and low capital cost, is the major source of water to meet the requirement of various sector in India. However, with a rapid growth of population and all round development, there is incessant pressure on the ground water withdrawal resulting compulsive awakening in terms of both the quality and quantity. Ground water has an important role in meeting the water requirements of agriculture, industrial and domestic sectors in the state. About 78% percent of irrigation requirements in the Uttar Pradesh state are being met from ground water resources. If the present trend of the increasing demand remains incontrollable, the resource may be as strategic as are the minerals resources. Though in contrast to this, the resource of groundwater as a part of hydrologic cycle is replenishable. The indiscriminate exploitation of groundwater has led to depletion of storage is essential in order to avoid the adverse impact. This could be achieved only after careful monitoring of various inpiuts of hydrological system. Temporal variation in the Ground water system need to be studied for the scientific management of the resource. In view of this Central Ground Water Board, Northern Region, Lucknow has setup a network of 1241 Ground Water Monitoring Wells all over the state to maintain a regular database. The behavior of water level is monitored four times every year in May, August, November and January. To ascertain the hydrochemical behavior of ground water, samples are collected from representative wells once a year during the month of May and samples are analysed in the chemical laboratory of the office.
