It’s incredible how time flies when you are busy expanding superb property portfolios, welcoming new staff and thriving as a business in the unique South African economic terrain. This edition, we bring you a wealth of updates on some really special projects, across the board, including the Growthpoint and GBCSA Greenovate Awards. These unique awards are designed to support and encourage South Africa’s property, construction and quantity surveying honours students. The Industrial sector has been especially busy this quarter and has introduced some wonderful new initiatives and innovations. As usual, we have a few exciting announcements to make. Most of our new and refurbished buildings are designed to have a 4-Star Green Star rating (minimum) from the Green 5 STAR RATINGS. Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA). Growthpoint has managed to achieve Green Star ratings for 12 of its buildings in several sectors, with a further four in the pipeline. 2nd Quarter 2015 BUILDING PERFORMANCE RATINGS ON OUR EXISTING DEVELOPMENTS The Green Star SA Existing Building Performance Tool covers the same environmental categories covered by the Green Star SA Design / As Built tool. However, it also focuses on measurable performance indicators such as energy and water, management policies and plans required to achieve environmental performance. Growthpoint has submitted 10 buildings for the GBCSA Existing Building Performance (EBP) pilot to be rated. KIRSTENHOF The buildings below have already received their ratings. BETWEEN 2008 – APRIL 2014, THE GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL OF SOUTH Fredman Towers 3 Star Rating AFRICA RATED 50 BUILDINGS. A FURTHER 50 BUILDINGS Central Park 4 Star Rating WERE RATED BETWEEN APRIL 2014 AND APRIL 2015. Centennial Place 4 Star Rating A FANTASTIC ACHIEVEMENT! 2nd Quarter 2015 THE GBCSA GROWTHPOINT GREENOVATE AWARDS The Greenovate Award competition targets students in their Honours year from the Property, Construction and Quantity Surveying departments and introduces them to green building thinking. It also recognises excellence in application. The awards programme will be set up and piloted at the University of Cape Town, University of the Witwatersrand and University of Pretoria, and the competition will test the interest of both students and faculty. If the pilot is successful, it will be rolled out to all universities in the country with the appropriate built environment faculties. Round one of the competition will take place internally and each university’s panel will select the top two projects submitted by student groups. Workshops with industry professionals will run from March through to September and the top six projects will be selected by mid-November. The top six groups will then have the opportunity to present their projects to a panel of industry experts selected by the GBCSA and Growthpoint. A gala dinner and prize- giving will be held on November 26 to announce the overall winners. READ MORE ENTER COMPETITION ENERGY EFFICIENT BASEMENT LIGHTING AT HEAD OFFICE Our most recent lighting project included replacing the basement lighting at our Head Office with a new Phillips fitting. We also installed new magnet integrated movement sensors that switch lights off when they are not in use. The SHARK TANK SHARKS WEBSITE Waratahs loose-forward Jacques Potgieter has recently signed a two-year contract with the Cell C Sharks. Jacques has been hugely impressive for the Waratahs and will add significant value and depth to The Sharks’ loose trio.
