Willow House Willow House WEST TERRACE | CORBRIDGE | NORTHUMBERLAND A spacious three storey Victorian house in a central location with walled garden and private parking Hexham 3.9 miles | Newcastle International Airport 16.1 miles Newcastle City Centre 18.6 miles Accommodation in Brief Entrance Lobby & Boot Room | Open Plan Kitchen/Dining Area Day Room | Sitting Room | Utility | WC | Three First Floor Bedrooms Bathroom | Shower Room | Two Second Floor Bedrooms Walled Garden | Private Parking The Property Willow House is a generously proportioned property in a central village location just a short walk from the local shops, bars and cafés of popular Corbridge. The property is an attractive red brick Victorian house over three floors which backs onto a delightful walled garden, a rare find in central Corbridge. Internally the property has a contemporary feel and retains attractive period features including high ceilings, ornate plaster ceiling roses and cornices and a spindled staircase. To the ground floor the main entrance is into a lobby which doubles as a useful boot room and cloaks. This leads to a dining kitchen with a good range of cabinets with integral appliances and access to a utility room with WC. A large day room offers a flexible space for use as a reception room, playroom, piano, TV room or similar. The house is wired for piped music to all areas downstairs and the bathroom. The sitting room has views out over the walled garden and there is also a focal point open fire along with an elegant French chandelier. The internal hallway has stairs leading to a half landing where there is a bathroom and a separate shower room, both with wash basin and WC. On the first floor proper there are three well-proportioned bedrooms; two doubles and one generous single and a large landing cupboard. Further stairs lead to the second floor where there are another two bedrooms with vaulted ceilings. Externally A private and peaceful walled garden to the rear of the property is truly a rare find within the village centre. The garden is laid out to provide ease of maintenance with patio, raised goldfish pond with water fountain, planted borders, pergola and the willow tree from which the house takes its name. There are external wall lights the length of the garden. At the lane side of the property there is private parking for one car and free on street parking. Local Information Corbridge is a popular and historic village that sits on the River Tyne in the heart of the scenic Tyne Valley. The village offers a full range of day-to-day amenities with a wide variety of shops, restaurants, inns, doctor and dentist surgeries, community services and a garage, while nearby Matfen Hall and Close House offer excellent leisure facilities. The nearby market town of Hexham offers more comprehensive services with large supermarkets, a further range of shops and professional services together with a leisure centre, cinema, theatre and hospital. For schooling there is a First School and Middle School in the village, while senior schooling is offered in Hexham. For the commuter Corbridge is convenient for the A69 which gives excellent access to Newcastle in the east and Carlisle in the west, and onward to the A1 and M6. There is a railway station on the edge of the village which provides cross country services to Newcastle and Carlisle where connecting main line rail services are available to major UK cities north and south. Newcastle International Airport is also very accessible. Floor Plans Ground Floor First Floor Second Floor Directions From Corbridge Market Place take Watling Street out of the village. • Northeast England – a History of Flash Flooding
Northeast England – A history of flash flooding Introduction The main outcome of this review is a description of the extent of flooding during the major flash floods that have occurred over the period from the mid seventeenth century mainly from intense rainfall (many major storms with high totals but prolonged rainfall or thaw of melting snow have been omitted). This is presented as a flood chronicle with a summary description of each event. Sources of Information Descriptive information is contained in newspaper reports, diaries and further back in time, from Quarter Sessions bridge accounts and ecclesiastical records. The initial source for this study has been from Land of Singing Waters –Rivers and Great floods of Northumbria by the author of this chronology. This is supplemented by material from a card index set up during the research for Land of Singing Waters but which was not used in the book. The information in this book has in turn been taken from a variety of sources including newspaper accounts. A further search through newspaper records has been carried out using the British Newspaper Archive. This is a searchable archive with respect to key words where all occurrences of these words can be viewed. The search can be restricted by newspaper, by county, by region or for the whole of the UK. The search can also be restricted by decade, year and month. The full newspaper archive for northeast England has been searched year by year for occurrences of the words ‘flood’ and ‘thunder’. It was considered that occurrences of these words would identify any floods which might result from heavy rainfall.
