FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 1, 2014 SNOCORE TOUR ANNOUNCES LINE-UP FEATURING HEADLINER FLYLEAF, WITH ADELITA'S WAY DIRECT SUPPORT AND FRAMING HANLEY, FIT FOR RIVALS OPENING New York -- Wind-up Records and TKO have announced the 2015 SnoCore Tour will feature headliner Flyleaf, with Adelita's Way confirmed as direct support. Framing Hanley and Fit For Rivals will open the show. Multi-platinum band Flyleaf recently released Between The Stars , on Loud & Proud Records. The lead single “Set Me On Fire” can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLGH0H4Vr6Y Flyleaf bassist Pat Seals shares, "We are thrilled to be headlining SnoCore this Winter. Joining the tour back in 2006 as a support act was such a formative experience for Flyleaf, and we're looking forward to bringing it back to our fans in 2015." Adelita's Way founder and vocalist Rick DeJesus offers, "We are very excited to be a part of SnoCore with Flyleaf. This tour will be the most energetic, and exciting tour that will be out this winter. It will be a show no one should miss.” Framing Hanley singer Kenneth Nixon states, "It's an honor to be a part of this SnoCore lineup. SnoCore is a tour that I grew up always wanting to check out, but Nashville, TN isn't particularly snowy, so I missed out on a lot of great tours. We are absolutely stoked to be hitting the road with Flyleaf, Adelita's Way, & Fit For Rivals.” Fit For Rivals Renee Phoenix adds, "We’re excited to be out with Flyleaf because personally, they’re a band I’ve been listening to since I was younger. I remember picking up their debut album in 2005 and becoming a fan myself. We also did a run with Framing Hanley a few years back and it’ll be nice to share the stage with them once again!" The SnoCore Tour first launched close to two decades ago, and from 1996 to 2010 staged annual runs filling a void of minimal touring activity during the winter months. In its first year, SnoCore showcased bands that included Sublime, Less Than Jake, Guttermouth and Shankin' Pickle. Over the years Blink-182, Incubus, Everclear, System of a Down, Seether, Shinedown and Alien Ant Farm amongst others participated in SnoCore. Now, after a brief hiatus, Wind-up Records and TKO are proud to be uniting to bring SnoCore back on to the road. The tour will begin on February 3, 2015 at Amos Southend in Charlotte, NC. The proposed theoretical lens combines influences from cultural studies, historical audience studies, and performance studies in order to encourage a broader appreciation of the popular music archive and the identity-making cultural practices surrounding the popular music archive. Such an endeavor requires the acknowledgement of three theoretical considerations: technology, performance, and tangibility. To illustrate the breadth of readings that this approach to the popular music archive can yield, each chapter uses source material from the Music Library and Sound Recordings Archives at Bowling Green State University. Chapter Two analyzes the contents of rock promotional materials and argues that these technologies of representation code rock music according to semiotic markers of masc ulinity, whiteness, and mythic America. Chapter Three argues that themes of inclusion and exclusion in punk fanzines work to unite individual, localized scenes into a translocal scene that transcends time and geographical boundaries through shared narratives and common values. Chapter Four examines the construction of audience identity through teen-oriented artist biographies and argues that such technologies of representation police (female) fan behavior through narratives of “proper” fandom.

Arthur C Clarke - The City and the Stars Preface For the benefit of those who have read my first novel, against the fall of night, and will recognize some of the material in the present work, a few words of explanation are in order. Against the fall of night was begun in 1937 and, after four or five drafts, was completed in 1946, though for various reasons beyond the author's control book publication was delayed until some years later. Although this work was well received, it had most of the defects of a first novel, and my initial dissatisfaction with it increased steadily over the years. Moreover, the progress of science during the two decades since the story was first conceived made many of the original ideas naive, and opened up vistas and possibilities quite unimagined when the book was originally planned. In particular, certain developments in information theory suggested revolutions in the human way of life even more profound than those which atomic energy is already introducing, and i wished to incorporate these into the book i had attempted, but so far failed, to write. A sea voyage from England to Australia gave an opportunity of getting to grips with the uncompleted job, which was finished just before i set out to the great barrier reef. The knowledge that i was to spend some months diving among sharks of doubtful docility was an additional spur to action. It may or may not be true, as doctor Johnson stated, that nothing settles a man's mind so much as the knowledge that he will be hanged in the morning, but for my part i can testify that the thought of not returning from the reef was the main reason why the book was completed at that particular time, and the ghost that had haunted me for almost twenty years was finally exorcised.

British Indie Music In The 1990s: Public Spheres, Media and Exclusion Rachel White . Goldsmiths College Submitted for the degree of PhD Abstract Developing existing theories of public and counterpublic spheres, this thesis moves beyond theoretical ideals to formulate a working model of the cultural counterpublic sphere in which British indie music is understood, legitimated and ascribed value. This 'indie public' is then interrogated with the central aim of understanding the continued discrepancy in levels of male and female participation in British indie music at every level during the 1990s. Given the centrality of the media to contemporary, geographically dispersed publics it is through a discursive analysis of the British music press, particularly the NME and the Melody Maker, that the masculine constitution of the indie public is revealed. The music press is viewed as not just representing or reflecting the indie scene, but as central to its construction as a genre and the discursive production of privileged subject positions therein. The empirical research analyses how discourses of gender, and to a lesser extent race, class and sexuality, inform the key themes and concepts through which the music press both constructs and evaluates artists and audiences in the indie public. The bulk of the analysis focuses the extended coverage of four prominent 90s' indie bands; Suede, Elastica, Oasis, and Echobelly. The findings are presented thematically in four main areas; the construction of authenticity and 'the artist', the construction of stars and the bases of their appeal, the importance of British national identity during the 'Britpop' era of the mid-1990s and the production of fans and audiences in the indie public.
