For students that happen to be theater phanat- ics, are just looking for up- coming shows to attend, look no further than Perkiomen Valley High School’s annual Fall Play, Radium Girls. The show takes place in the 1920’s, and follows the true story of a group of girls fighting against unjust work laws and unsanitary working conditions. Many of the girls working in the factory be- come sick with cancer from Madame Curie’s seemingly miraculous new medicine, radium. Some of the girls fall severely ill, and die at young ages due to this exposure. The plot mainly follows the court battle between the workers and the company. Our hero- ine, Grace (played by senior Leanna Strohecker), learns to stand up for what’s right, and finds her voice, even if it means sacrifice. The story has also been adapted into multiple books, including “The Radi- um Girls: The Dark Story Of America’s Shining Women”, written by author Kate Moore, as well as D.W Greg’s play pro- duction.
