On Tap The #3 Mavericks return home with the Ferris Sate series looming this weekend. They went 1-1 at the 2015 and their unbeaten streak ended at nine games with their loss to Bemidji State. They enter this weekend having gone 14-2-1 in their last 17 games. Friday | MSU 4 2 St. Paul, Minn. --- Junior forward Bryce Gervais scored twice and assisted on another as top-rated Minnesota State skated to a 4-2 victory over #17 Minnesota Friday night at in downtown St. Paul in North Star College Cup action. The win for Minnesota State extends its unbeaten streak to a nation's best nine games and gives the Mavericks a 19-4-12 overall record. The win is also the first for Minnesota State at Xcel Energy Center with the Mavericks winning in the home of the 's for the first time in its eighth game in the building.

It was a 1-1 game after the first period with the Gophers getting on the board first when Seth Ambroz backhanded a shot past Stephon Williams at 17:54. Minnesota senior forward Matt Leitner's set up from down low found forward Bryce Gervais in front of the net and the junior from Battleford, Sask., made no mistake in getting his 14th goal of the season as the Mavericks tied the game at 19:26. Gervais got his second goal of the game when he wired one over the right shoulder of Minnesota netminder at 2:26 of the second period. The Gophers made it a 2-2 game at 6:50 on a shot from Michael Brodzinski at 6:50 that beat a screened Williams from the high slot. Freshman forward C.J. Franklin got his 7th of the season at 10:13 on a breakaway chance where he beat Wilcox low on the stickside to make it a 3-2 Minnesota State advantage. Junior defenseman Jon Jutzi got his first of the season at 15:51 with the Mavericks on the power play on a puck that he tapped in after it rebounded off the end boards to make it 4-2 at the end of two periods of play.

Neither the Mavericks nor the Gophers were able to score in the third period which included a penalty shot save by Williams on Minnesota's Seth Ambroz at 18:47. Minnesota State went one-for-three on the power play in the game and put 22 shots on goal. The Gophers were zero-for-four in power plays and also had 22 shots on goal. Beside the three points from Gervais (he also assisted on Jutzi's goal), Casey Nelson had two assists, Matt Leitner had to assists and Jutzi ended up with a two-point night with his assist on the first goal by Gervais. Saturday | MSU 1 Bemidji State 3 St. Paul, Minn. --- Top-rated Minnesota State could not make up for an early deficit in falling 3-1 to Bemidji State Saturday night at Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul in the championship game of the 2015 North Star College Cup. The loss for Minnesota State ends its unbeaten streak at nine games and gives the Mavericks a 19-5-1 overall record.

The Beavers held a 1-0 edge at the end of the first period of play on a goal at 5:55 in which Brendan Harms found Charlie O'Connor all by himself at the left side of the crease and O'Connor buried a wrister into the back of the net for his eighth goal of the season. The Beavers extended their lead at 2:54 of the second on a wraparound goal by Gerry Fitzgerald. It became a 3-0 BSU lead at 14:48 on a partial break- away tally by Kyle Bauman. The Mavericks cut the deficit to two at 19:15 when Jon Jutzi's shot from the point beat Michael Bitzer. The goal is Jutzi's second of the season.

Including a penalty shot attempt from junior forward Dylan Margonari at 8:27 of the third in which Bitzer denied Margonari's five-hole shot, the Mavericks could not find a way to generate any other offense with the Beavers eventually closing the door on a 3-1 win. Minnesota State went one-for-four on the power play in the game and put 27 shots on goal. The Beavers were zero-for-two in power plays and totalled 22 shots on goal. The Mavericks, who are 14-2-1 in their last 16 games, resume Western Collegiate Hockey Association action next weekend with a home series vs. Ferris State Friday and Saturday in Mankato.

On Tap Minnesota State will continue its six-game home stand with a pair of Western Collegiate Hockey Association games against No. 3 Wisconsin on Friday and Saturday at All Sports Arena.

Friday | MSU 0 Minnesota Duluth 12 MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team was shut out by No. 6/7 Minnesota Duluth 12-0, Friday night at All Season's Arena in Mankato. Minnesota State's record falls to 2-20-1 overall and 0-16-1 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play while Minnesota Duluth improves to 16-6-3 and 11-6-2 in the WCHA.

Minnesota Duluth was led by Brigette Lacquette who recorded a hat trick and added an assist. Lara Stalder also recorded four points for the Bulldogs tallying two goals and two helpers.

The Bulldogs recorded their first goal at 9:53 of the first period as Michela Cava was able to beat MSU netminder senior Erin Krichiver. UMD added another goal at 18:20 to go up 2-0 into the first intermission. In the second and third period's the Bulldogs scored five goals each as netminder's Kayla Black and Karissa Grapp recorded nine saves to record the shutout.

Krichiver recorded 28 saves while sophomore Brianna Quade checked into the game in the third period and tallied 16 saves.

The Mavericks were outshot by the Bulldogs 56-9 in the loss and went 0-2 on the power play while UMD was 5-10 with the extra skater. Minnesota State and Minnesota Duluth will be back in action tomorrow at All Season's Arena. The puck is set to drop at 3:07 p.m. Saturday | MSU 0 Minnesota Duluth 4 MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State and Minnesota Duluth were back at it again Saturday night at All Seasons Arena in Mankato and the Bulldogs once again came out on top by a score of 4-0.

Minnesota State's record falls to 2-21-1 overall and 0-16-1 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play while Minnesota Duluth improves to 17-6-3 and 11-6-2 in the WCHA.

After a scoreless first period, the Bulldogs were able to score shorthanded just seven seconds into the second period. UMD later struck at 19:25 to open up a two goal lead and then again 29 seconds later to take a 3-0 lead after two periods.

The Bulldogs tallied one more goal and UMD netminder Kayla Black recorded 25 saves to get the win while MSU netminder Erin Krichiver stopped 33 shots on the afternoon.

The Mavericks tallied 25 shots on the evening compared to 37 for the Bulldogs while UMD went 1-4 on the power play while MSU was 0-4.

Minnesota State will battle Wisconsin next weekend at All Seasons Arena in Mankato on Friday and Saturday. On Friday the Mavericks and Badgers will battle at 7:07 p.m. while Saturday's face off will be at 3:07 p.m.
