USA Lyrics: The head titles feature Tick/Mitzi (Hugo Weaving) miming to Charlene’s I’ve Never Been To Me … (with the help of a preacher man who on the lyrics’ cue comes out to hold hands, followed by a drunk Adam/Felicia (Guy Pearce) chewing gum and clutching a doll baby, who comes out when the lyrics refer to a lady walking away, and then horses around on stage). The song is cut short in the film. Lyrics as heard in the film: Hey lady, you, lady, cursin' at your life You're a discontented mother and a rich inventive wife I've no doubt you dream about the things you'll never do But I wish someone had a talked to me like I wanna talk to you Ooh I've been to Georgia and California, and anywhere I could run Took the hand of a preacher man and we made love in the sun But I ran out of places and friendly faces because I had to be free I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me … Please lady, please, lady, don't just walk away Cause I have this need to tell you why I'm all alone today I can see so much of me still living in your eyes Won't you share a part of a weary heart that has lived a million lies Oh I've been to Nice and the isle of Greece While I sipped champagne on a yacht I moved like Harlow in Monte Carlo and showed 'em what I've got I've been undressed by kings and I've seen some things That a woman ain't s'posed to see I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me … The song begins to fade out at this point, as Mitzi stops miming and bows to the clapping and wolf whistling crowd, as voices demand more … Oooh oooh o ooo meee ... I’ve been to paradise … never been to me … The applause turns to jeers and Mitzi sneers at the crowd and then a can beer catches her in the back of the neck, knocking her down … Felicia races out and asks her if she’s okay, gets a “yeah, yeah”, so races over to pick up the mike. Felicia: “Well that was fuckin’ charming, you gutless pack of dickheads.” Audience member: “Oh fuck off you talentless dog.” Felicia: “What was that?” Audience member: “Show us your pink bits!” Felicia: “No! I don’t think I will. Now do you know why this microphone has such a long cord?” Audience member: “Why?” Felicia: “So it’s easily retrieved after I’ve shoved it up YOUR arse.” The crowd cheers and jeers as the director’s credit vanishes, we cut to a forlorn Mitzi in the dressing room, and the post-credits movie begins … Tail song lyrics: Mitzi shouts into the mike that it’s good to be home, the image freezes and a song begins over black as the tail credits roll. Co-costume designer Tim Chappel fades up in stage-lit silhouette, screen right, to mime to Vanessa Williams singing Save the Best for Last. Unlike the head credits song, this one runs the distance: Sometimes the snow comes down in June Sometimes the sun goes round the moon I see the passion in your eyes Sometimes it's all a big surprise 'Cause there was a time when all I did was wish You'd tell me this was love It's not the way I hoped or how I planned But somehow it's enough And now we're standing face-to-face Isn't this world a crazy place? Just when I thought our chance had passed You go and save the best for last All of the nights you came to me When some silly girl had set you free You wondered how you'd make it through I wondered what was wrong with you 'Cause how could you give your love to someone else And share your dreams with me Sometimes the very thing you're looking for Is the one thing you can't see But now we're standing face-to-face Isn't this world a crazy place? Just when I thought our chance had passed You go and save the best for last … (There’s a little synth piano interlude and a small excision from the original version) Sometimes the snow comes down in June Sometimes the sun goes round the moon Just when I thought our chance had passed You go and save the best for last ... You went and saved the best for last Yeaaaheaah… (After this, there’s a little oriental music as a monk collects a pink doll kite with exposed breasts that flaps down into what is clearly the Sydney Chinese Garden of Friendship in Darling Harbour) Music in the film: There are a few attempts to pretend that there’s live music in the film, but it’s obviously a film that’s heavily post-produced. Amongst the tokens are an uncredited band in a Broken Hill pub, and the presence of Alan Dargin, a noted didgeridoo player as well as musician and songwriter. Dargin has a wiki here. Much of the time the music consists of getting out the boom box and/or other amplified system, and getting on with the imported songs: CD Release: A CD of the soundtrack was released, and mirroring the film’s success, there were a number of editions: CD Polydor 516 937 2 (CA 516 937 4) 1994 (CD Polygram (USA) 16937) "THE ADVENTURES OF PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT - SONGS FROM THE MOTION PICTURE" 1.
