April 21, 2019 SAINT EASTER SUNDAY JEROME CHURCH P.O. BOX 38 • FANCY FARM, KY 42039 Phone: 270-623-8181 • Fax: 270-623-6341 E-mail: [email protected] L Website: http://www.stjeromefancyfarm.com L : Rev. Darrell Venters Business Hours: 7:30 AM—4:00 PM, Monday—Friday The faith community of Saint Jerome welcomes Katlynn Elder, Stacey Hayden and Hannah Yancy who were baptized and celebrated the sacrament of Eucharist and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil. Congratulations also to our fully initiated members Evie Elder, Heather Elliott, Bryce Rickman, Teka Williams and Kliff Wilson who were fully initiated by making a Profession of Faith in the and celebrating the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. We rejoice with you and as a parish community pledge to help you grow and mature in the Christian life and embrace the Catholic way of life.

What is next for those who entered the Catholic Church this Easter? Our eight newly initiated members have reached the final period of the initiation process. All who were baptized and received into full communion are called neophytes in this period, until the anniversary of their initiation next Easter. The final period of weekly formation extends through the Easter season to Pentecost. This post-baptismal catechesis is called MYSTAGOGY. It is a time for deepening the Christian experience in appreciation for the sacramental life, for spiritual growth and for entering into the life and unity of the Catholic Community including the responsibilities to witness and to bring the light of the Gospel to every corner of our world.

OG After 34 years of faithful service to St. Jerome, Alton is retiring effective October 1, 2019. We welcome Timmy Hobbs to the staff to work with Alton for the next few months and then take over the maintenance after Alton retires.

Sunday, April 28 at 11:45 AM there will be adoration, praying of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and an opportunity for the Sacrament of Penance. The late Pope John Paul II proclaimed the second Sunday of Easter to be Divine Mercy Sunday. He did this in conjunction with the canonization of Sister Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun whose visions of Christ gave rise to the Divine Mercy devotion. Through St. Faustina, who died in 1938 at the age of 33 from complications of tuberculosis, Christ revealed a powerful prayer called the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. All are invited to come and pray this powerful prayer.

GWe are delighted to have you visit with us here at St. Jerome Catholic Church. We hope your visit with us has been a happy and faith-filled experience. 2 &'( John 20:1-9 On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb…then the other disciple went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed.

On this Easter Day, join with Simon Peter and the Beloved Disciple in the empty tomb, and ponder the meaning of this extraordinary event and believe!

Questions for you or your family members: Is there anyone you would like to tell about the empty tomb and Jesus’ Resurrection? What is stopping you?

Easter Sunday begins the Easter Octave, eight days of extending the joy of Easter Sunday. In what ways can you celebrate “Alleluia, Jesus is Risen” in your life?

Please keep the following students in your prayers as they prepare for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. They will receive this sacrament on Sunday, May 5 during the 10:30 AM Mass. *Aubrey Ballard, daughter of Cory and Chelsey Ellegood; *Carson Brann, son of Jessica McDaniel; *Baker Elder, son of Steven and Tara Elder; * Keston Elliott, son of Kevin and Kristen Elliott; *Ty Henson, son of Jason and Kayla Henson; *Nate Holmes, son of Jason and Adrian Holmes; *Clayton McLeary, Chris and Shannon McLeary; *Zoey Paschall, daughter of Mary Beth Paschall; *Haidyn Rondon, daughter of Tom and Shannon Rondon; *Aiden Taylor, son of T.J. and Ashley Taylor; *Kendall Wilson, daughter of Eric and Alina Wilson.

The Knights of Columbus will host a blood drive on Sunday, May 19 from 9 AM—1 PM.

" " Please continue to pray for our Stephen Ministers, asking the Holy Spirit’s presence and guidance for them as they go out to bring Christ’s care to hurting people. Just as Jesus commissioned his disciples to go out to minister to others in his name, we commissioned our Stephen Ministers to extend Christ’s care on behalf of our congregation to those in our midst who need it most. If you or someone you know could benefit from the listening ear, caring presence, and Christ-centered support of a Stephen Minister, talk to our pastor or a Stephen Leader (Hank Cecil, Sr. Martha Keller, Lacy Riddle).
