REPORT Executive Summary The City of Edmonton (City) and municipalities in the Capital Region have experienced rapid growth over the last decade. Due to this growth, on March 5, 2013, Edmonton City Council issued a motion to initiate a process of land annexation from Leduc County. The proposed City annexation areas consist of southwest and southeast lands, located within Leduc County. -

ABBOTT, PERCY W. Alderman, 1920-1921 Born on April 29, 1882 in Lucan, Ontario where he was educated. Left Lucan at 17 and relocated to Stony Plain, Alberta where he taught school from 1901 to 1902. He then joined the law firm of Taylor and Boyle and in 1909 was admitted to the bar. He was on the Board of Trade and was a member of the Library Board for two years. March 12, 2008 Premier Stelmach sets out priorities; names new Cabinet, reorganizes portfolios Changes to government structure reflect government priorities Edmonton... Premier Ed Stelmach has laid out the priorities for his new administration, reorganizing portfolios and adding four new ministries. The Premier also named his new Cabinet which features new faces and new assignments for previous members, and introduces the role of parliamentary assistants who will help support ministers on key projects. "This Cabinet and new government structure will focus on building a stronger Alberta and improving the lives of Albertans,” said Premier Stelmach. “The Cabinet team balances experience and new perspectives and is well skilled for the work ahead.” The new Cabinet will be focused on five priorities: ensuring Alberta’s energy resources are developed in an environmentally sustainable way; increasing access to quality health care and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of health care service delivery; enhancing value-added activity, increasing innovation, and improving the long-run sustainability of Alberta’s economy; reducing crime so Albertans feel safe in their communities; and providing the roads, schools, hospitals and other public infrastructure to meet the needs of a growing economy and population. Changes to the government structure will help better meet these priorities. Government’s increased focus on culture is reflected in the new Ministry of Culture and Community Spirit which also has responsibility for the voluntary sector and the Human Rights Commission. The new Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will help fulfill government’s plan to ensure affordable housing is available to all Albertans and to address emerging urban issues. -

Historical Walking Tours of Downtown Edmonton Explore Our Past... he Hudson's Bay Company put Edmonton on Tthe map over 200 years ago in 1795 when it built Edmonton House, Edmonton's first permanent settlement and trading post for the first inhabitants who hunted and fished along the North Saskatchewan River. On October 8, 1904, Edmonton was incorporated as a city. 1 There are four Historical Walking Tours of Downtown Edmonton in this booklet. They can be followed individually or in sequence. Tour I Heritage Trail Tour II Jasper West and Warehouse District Tour III Downtown and Rice Howard Way Tour IV Jasper East Fort Edmonton, 1871. Historical connections between buildings are noted in the text. Wherever possible, buildings are referred to by their original name, or by the name of the original occupant or the most prominent occupant. Oftentimes these do not correspond to their current owners or occupants. His trip was part of the Hudson’s Bay Company’s interest in establishing direct contact with the native population of the interior rather than depending on native middlemen to bring furs to posts located on Hudson’s Bay. -
