With marketing operations in 150 countries, the Group generates one third of its unit sales outside Western Europe and is actively expanding its business in such fast growing markets as China, the Mercosur region and Russia. The Supervisory Board informed the new Managing Board members that their objective was to lead the Group into a new period of expansion by restoring fast growth and improving profi tability. The Managing Board was also tasked with strengthening the Group’s international presence and making it a leading world-class automobile manufacturer, while preserving its independence. In line with these objectives, the new Managing Board immediately made the following decisions: A new organizational structure was introduced. In addition to the Executive Committee, three new Business Units, for China, the Mercosur countries and Replacement Parts, were created, empowered with broad responsibilities and tasked with quickly growing their operations. Four operating priorities were identifi ed: improving quality, reducing costs, accelerating and broadening the product plan and expanding our international operations with three main goals – increasing our size in China, becoming a major automobile industry player in the Mercosur region and continuing to expand in Eastern Europe.     Clermont-Ferrand (France), October 31, 2014 Renault Sport Technologies and Michelin evaluating 17- and 18-inch tyres Renault Sport Technologies and Michelin share the same vision that motorsport permits innovative technologies to be fostered in a competitive environment with a view to achieving closer ties with the technologies that are available to the motoring public. Accordingly, the two partners are currently exploring the feasibility of switching to 18- and 17-inch tyres for the Formula Renault 3.5 Formula Renault 2.0 championships respectively from 2016. An initial test session based on Formula Renault 3.5 cars was carried out at Valencia, Spain, followed by a second featuring Formula Renault 2.0 cars at Barcelona, again in Spain. Given the positive results achieved at these tests, Renault Sport Technologies and Michelin are pleased to announce their intention to pursue this joint-development programme, and further sessions are planned over the months ahead. Since January, the collaboration between Renault Sport Technologies and Michelin has enabled the two companies to collect a significant amount of data after completing several hundred kilometres in testing. The two entities are carefully studying the results of this groundwork in order to obtain a thorough understanding of the repercussions any changes in tyre dimensions might have for the drivers, as well as in terms of grip and suspension performance. As far as factors such as top speed, road holding, tyre wear and the wear of other components are concerned, the early conclusions are positive. Despite requiring a certain number of small modifications, the cars feature a more modern look and benefit from enhanced cornering performance.

Michelin is intensifying efforts to make fuel cells as the French company bets that growing demand for hydrogen vehicles will help reduce its dependence on tires. Chief Executive Officer Florent Menegaux unveiled a growth stratey on Thursday including five main avenues for diversification. The tire maker expects to generate billions of euros from activities like fuel-cell production, 3D printing, and composite and medical materials to account for as much as 30% of sales by the end of the decade. That’s up from 5% in 2019. Part of the growth will come from acquisitions, Chief Financial Officer Yves Chapot said during the presentation. The manufacturer also pledged higher sales and profitability in 2023 compared with 2019 and an increase in its shareholder payout ratio beginning this year. Michelin’s expansion into hydrogen is built around Symbio, its venture with car-parts maker Faurecia SA. The business is developing what it claims will be Europe’s biggest hydrogen-systems factory. The Saint-Fons site in eastern France will supply fuel cells for a new range of cargo vans produced by Stellantis NV and is in talks for additional orders, according to Valerie Bouillon-Delporte, Michelin’s hydrogen ecosystem director.

Based on Michelin’s so-called ‘customer competition’ range, the tyre will also be available for all GT3 competitors from 2015. The new, powerful and efficient Renault Sport R.S. 01 is poised to enjoy a successful career in the World Series by Renault. For that, however, it needed a tyre that would allow its full potential to be exploited, which is why Michelin proposed the new Pilot Sport S9L. Philippe MUSSATI, the Clermont-Ferrand firm’s customer competition programmes manager, explains: “We found ourselves faced with the sort of challenge we love at Michelin because Renault Sport set the bar extremely high with its new car which boasts an exceptional performance pedigree. We are proud to have succeeded in meeting the exacting demands with regard to its high power output and torque. In addition to delivering outright performance, we were also asked to dial in consistency and to make sure that the Pilot Sport S9L was easy for the drivers to manage, since the R.S. 01’s programme is based on a combination of sprint and endurance races. L’évolution du contexte réglementaire induit de nécessaires innovations technologiques : voiture électrique, connectée, autonome et partagée. En 2030, la moitié des véhicules devraient être électriques. Tous les constructeurs sont mobilisés et concluent des partenariats dans cette perspective. Dans le même temps, la voiture connectée et autonome permettra de mieux répondre à l’enjeu essentiel de la sécurité. Ces évolutions technologiques vont présenter malheureusement de nouveaux risques par l’utilisation intensive de matières premières sensibles comme le cobalt par exemple, nécessitant un « devoir de vigilance » accru de la part des donneurs d’ordre. Nous avons étudié les entreprises suivantes : Michelin, Peugeot (PSA), Faurecia, Valeo, Renault, BMW ,Fiat-Chrysler, Nokian Tyres , Daimler et Plastic Omnium. Les notes globales Vigeo, concernant les six critères d’analyse, sont très réparties de 67 à 32.Seules trois entreprises sur les dix ont une note supérieure à 60, il s’agit de Michelin, Peugeot et Valeo. A l’inverse deux entreprises ont une note inférieure à 40 :Daimler et Plastic Omnium . Pour les Ressources humaines, quatre entreprises sont très bien notées (Michelin, Peugeot, Valeo et Renault ) mais la note de Nokian Tyres est faible. Pour l’environnement, les résultats sont bons sauf pour Fiat Chrysler, Faurecia, Plastic Omnium et surtout Daimler très faible. Pour le comportement sur les marchés, Michelin, Peugeot et Valeo sont bien notés mais Daimler et Plastic Omnium sont très faibles.
