Background 1.1 Location and Size Buikwe District lies in the Central region of Uganda, sharing borders with the District of Jinja in the East, Kayunga along river Sezibwa in the North, Mukono in the West, and Buvuma in Lake Victoria. The District Headquarters is in BUIKWE Town, situated along Kampala - Jinja road (11kms off Lugazi). Buikwe Town serves as an Administrative and commercial centre. Other urban centers include Lugazi, Njeru and Nkokonjeru Town Councils. Buikwe District has a total area of about 1209 Square Kilometres of which land area is 1209 square km. 1.2 Historical Background Buikwe District is one of the 28 districts of Uganda that were created under the local Government Act 1 of 1997. By the act of parliament, the district was inniatially one of the Counties of Mukono district but later declared an independent district in July 2009. The current Buikwe district consists of One County which is divided into three constituencies namely Buikwe North, Buikwe South and Buikwe West. It conatins 8 sub counties and 4 Town councils. 1.3 Geographical Features Topography The northern part of the district is flat but the southern region consists of sloping land with great many undulations; 75% of the land is less than 60o in slope. Most of Buikwe District lies on a high plateau (1000-1300) above sea level with some areas along Sezibwa River below 760m above sea level, Southern Buikwe is a raised plateau (1220-2440m) drained by River Sezibwa and River Musamya. -

Asian Journal of Agriculture and Rural Development journal homepage: http://aessweb.com/journal-detail.php?id=5005 Improving Rural Livelihood through NERICA Farming: An Inquiry into Najja Sub-county in Central Uganda Dan Makosa and Nagatada Takayanagi Department of Agricultural Economics, Tokyo University of Agriculture, Sakuragaoka, Setagaya, Tokyo, Japan Abstract New Rice for Africa (NERICA) was introduced in Uganda to help rural farmers in improving their livelihood in terms of income and food security. Using the livelihood impact analysis technique, this study sought to assess the role of NERICA in improving rural livelihood by (i) understanding the production environment (ii) exploring the marketing opportunities and challenges and (iii) highlighting the changes in livelihood outcomes. The findings indicate that upland varieties are cultivated mainly in lowland areas and rural farmers prefer early maturity attribute to high productivity. Milling places also double as selling points where buyers and sellers meet. Selling milled rice fetches more profits than paddy. The most popular asset purchased from NERICA proceeds is land. The main challenges to production and marketing are inadequate extension service and high transport costs respectively. This report, for the first time, coincides with the Government financial year. 2. From the financial point of view the year has again been one of considerable difficulty since, as a result of the Economy Commission Report, it was necessary to restrict the money available for recurrent expenditure to the same level as the previous year. Although an additional sum was available to cover normal increases in salaries, the general effect was that many economies had to in all be made grades of staff; some important vacancies could not be filled, and expansion was out of the question. -

Honey, Master of Science Utah State University, 2020 Major Professor: Dr. Eric César Morales Program: American Studies This paper examines the shifting portrayals of Pacific Islanders in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) across three generations. As both a popular and historically racially problematic venue, WWE’s politically incorrect programming has played an underappreciated and under examined role in representing the USA. Although 4 many different groups have been portrayed by gross stereotypes in WWE, this paper uses the family of Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson—the Samoan Dynasty—as a case study. The WWE originally presented Pacific Islanders using the most offensive stereotypes, and the first two generations of the Samoan Dynasty had to “play Indian” or cosign onto gross representations of their people to be recognized by American audiences unfamiliar with representations of Pacific Islanders. -

Tartan Wrestling Philosophy Mission Statement: The Tartan Wrestling Program believes there is more to life than athletics. It is our desire to develop not only great wrestlers, but great students and kids who demonstrate outstanding character. This program will measure its success not only in wins and losses, but also in our wrestlers’ abilities to have productive and successful lives. Wrestling Philosophy: Wrestling is a sport that requires more than talent. It takes physical and mental discipline as well as sound fundamentals. A Tartan wrestler should work relentlessly to maximize his potential in all of these areas. Although this staff teaches specific technical components of this sport, it is our belief that there is more than one way to wrestle. We work tirelessly to bring in an array of technique, giving each individual the best chance at personal success. There is however on area of wrestling that we believe is absolute. A Tartan wrestler must be a hard worker who strives to be in the best physical shape possible. We believe in the adage, “hard work beats talents, when talent doesn’t work hard.” Our expectations of our wrestlers are that they will out work their opponent each and every day. Our objective is to wear our opponent down so that we can physically break them. The third period should be our best, as our opponent fatigues and we are able to remain fundamentally sound due to superior conditioning. It is no accident when a Tartan wrestler wins a close match or a match in which they trailed. NEEDS AND VALUES OF WRESTLING The wrestling mat provides a constructive outlet for energies that are symptomatic of restless and uncertain teenagers. -

INDEPENDENT REVIEW PANEL COMPLIANCE REVIEW REPORT ON THE BUJAGALI HYDROPOWER AND INTERCONNECTION PROJECTS June 20, 2008 1 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS The IRM Compliance Review Panel could not have undertaken and completed this report without the generous assistance of many people in Uganda and at the African Development Bank. It wishes to express its appreciation to all of them for their cooperation and support during the compliance review of the Bujagali Hydropower and Interconnection projects. The Panel thanks the Requesters and the many individuals from civil society and the communities that it met in the Project areas and in Kampala for their assistance. It also appreciates the willingness of the representatives of the Government of Uganda and the projects’ sponsors to meet with the Panel and provide it with information during its visit to Uganda. The Panel acknowledges all the help provided by the Resident Representative of the African Development Bank in Uganda and his staff and the willing cooperation it has received from the Bank’s Management and staff in Tunis. The Panel appreciates the generous cooperation of the World Bank Inspection Panel which conducted its own review of the “UGANDA: Private Power Generation Project”. The Compliance Review Panel and the World Bank Inspection Panel coordinated their field investigations of the Bujagali projects and shared consultants and technical information during this investigation in order to enhance the efficiency and cost effectiveness of each of their investigations. While this collaboration between the Panel and the World Bank Inspection Panel worked to the mutual benefit of both parties, each Panel focused its compliance review on its own Bank’s policies and procedures and each Panel has made its own independent judgments about the compliance of its Management and staff with its Bank’s policies and procedures. -

Disease October November December This monthly bulletin is intended to bridge the gap between the Cholera existing weekly and quarterly bulletins; focus on a one or two disease/event that featured prominently in a given month; pro- Typhoid fever mote data utilization and information sharing. Malaria This issue focuses on cholera, typhoid and malaria during the Source: Health Facility Outpatient Monthly Reports, Month of December 2015. Completeness of monthly reporting DHIS2, MoH for December 2015 was above 90% across all the four regions. Typhoid fever Distribution of Typhoid Fever During the month of December 2015, typhoid cases were reported by nearly all districts. Central region reported the highest number, with Kampala, Wakiso, Mubende and Luweero contributing to the bulk of these numbers. In the north, high numbers were reported by Gulu, Arua and Koti- do. This Plan is a strategic tool in the struggle to get the people of Buikwe District out of absolute poverty. Key strategies include; emphasis on data based planning, Information communication strategy among staff and political leadership, community vocational education for the youth, development of agro based small scale industry, micro finance support services through co-operatives and infrastructure development on landing sites. The Prosperity for All scheme by the Central government will also help the communities of the district in the poverty alleviation strategy by extending micro finance to the masses through Savings and Credits Cooperatives Associations (SACCOS). The planning process has been guided by a comprehensive planning/budget cycle, which started as far back in October 2011. This plan gives stakeholders an update on activity implementation in the past years, which act as a guiding tool for priority setting for the five years of the National Development Plan, launched in 2011. Major previous achievements: Buikwe district has registered some achievements since it seceded from Mukono district. Below are some of the achievements that can be taken note of: •Tremendous improvement in remittance of the statutory local revenue 35% from Sub Counties. -
The Oral Poetics of Professional Wrestling, Or Laying the Smackdown on Homer
Oral Tradition, 29/1 (201X): 127-148 The Oral Poetics of Professional Wrestling, or Laying the Smackdown on Homer William Duffy Since its development in the first half of the twentieth century, Milman Parry and Albert Lord’s theory of “composition in performance” has been central to the study of oral poetry (J. M. Foley 1998:ix-x). This theory and others based on it have been used in the analysis of poetic traditions like those of the West African griots, the Viking skalds, and, most famously, the ancient Greek epics.1 However, scholars have rarely applied Parry-Lord theory to material other than oral poetry, with the notable exceptions of musical forms like jazz, African drumming, and freestyle rap.2 Parry and Lord themselves, on the other hand, referred to the works they catalogued as performances, making it possible to use their ideas beyond poetry and music. The usefulness of Parry-Lord theory in studies of different poetic traditions tempted me to view other genres of performance from this perspective. In this paper I offer up one such genre for analysis —professional wrestling—and show that interpreting the tropes of wrestling through the lens of composition in performance provides information that, in return, can help with analysis of materials more commonly addressed by this theory. Before beginning this effort, it will be useful to identify the qualities that a work must possess to be considered a “composition in performance,” in order to see if professional wrestling qualifies. The first, and probably most important and straightforward, criterion is that, as Lord (1960:13) says, “the moment of composition is the performance.” This disqualifies art forms like theater and ballet, works typically planned in advance and containing words and/or actions that must be performed at precise times and following a precise order.
