    Doze through this primary and you'll regret it Marty Trillhaase/Lewiston Tribune If you're not careful, Idaho's May 17 primary election could lull you to sleep. Turnout generally is abysmal. Anywhere from 16 to 18 percent of Idaho's eligible voters bother to show up. This election is the second Idaho GOP primary in 10 weeks. Back on March 8, 227,000 Idaho Republicans cast their preference for the GOP presidential nomination. Who knows how many voters will be burned out? Two years ago, Republicans had two slates of candidates, from the top of the ticket to bottom - representing a choice between a right-wing insurgency and the center-right establishment. Some called it a contest for "the heart and soul" of the party. You won't find many marquee races this time. Sen. Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, has no GOP primary opponent. Congressmen Raul Labrador and Mike Simpson have only token opposition within their own parties. That leaves Idaho's 105 legislative seats. As of now, start with 15 of Idaho's 35 state senators - 12 Republicans and three Democrats - who face no challenger. Next add 14 House members - 11 Republicans and three Democrats - also without opposition. Then mix in the two Senate seats and 14 House positions that will be decided in the Republican primary because no Democrat has signed up for those seats. No Republican has filed to run for one Democratic House seat. Both parties are contesting the six legislative seats representing Benewah, Latah, Lewis and Nez Perce counties, so those races will be decided in November.

    Wednesday, November 07, 2018 IDAHO 2018 GENERAL ELECTION RESULTS SUMMARY From Ken Burgess, Veritas Advisors, LLP Statewide Offices: All of Idaho’s Constitutional Offices were up for election in 2018. With Governor Otter retiring, there were competitive races for most of our statewide offices. While we have a new Governor, Lt. Governor, and Treasurer, Republicans retained every statewide office. Governor With Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter’s retirement, Idaho has elected its first new governor in more than a decade. With four candidates in the race, third generation Idahoan and rancher and current Lieutenant Governor Brad Little (R) was victorious receiving nearly 60% of the vote. Democratic candidate Paulette Jordan, who would have been Idaho’s first female governor and the nation’s first Native American governor, received 38% of the vote. Bev Boeck (Lib) and Walt Bayes (Const) each received 1% of the vote. Brad Little (R) 361,105 59.7% Paulette Jordan (D) 230,861 38.2% Brad Little: Third generation Idahoan and rancher. Little represented his Emmett-area district in the State Senate for almost 9 years before being appointed lieutenant governor. He has been re-elected twice to his current job. There were two races of importance an Idaho, one Congressional and one gubernatorial. GUBERNATORIAL Last night, it was Idaho's governor's race that received most attention, as Governor Butch Otter also announced his retirement for the office he held since 2006. In a deeply-red Idaho, it was the heated three-way Republican primary race for governor that presented most uncertainty. Brad Little (R) Narrowly defeating challengers Raul Labrador and Tommy Ahlquist by taking just 37% of the vote, Idaho Lieutenant Governor Brad Little emerged victorious in yesterday's primary for governor. Brad Little was largely seen as the clear pragmatic and establishment choice, winning support from the state's business community, as well as junior Senator Jim Risch and outgoing Governor Otter. Little will face Democrat Paulette Jordan in November in hopes of keeping the governor's mansion under Republican control. Paulette Jordan (D) Taking 58% in a somewhat contenous Democrac primary against A.J. Balukoff, two-term Idaho state legislator Paulee Jordan will face Brad Lile in November.
