His original move was setup in '84 but delayed by two broken legs. A player the fans identified with. He wasn't really a first pick but throughout the season he fought for his place in the team though was sometimes the butt as well as the darling of the support. Although often lampooned by opposing fans and the press, he always had the total respect of his team-mates and the appreciation of a support which still remembers him with great affection. Fell out Anton Rogan 09-May-86 Free Distillery Davie Hay Defender 3/1/87 -v- Hamilton 25/3/66 Jun '90 / 23 None with McNeill over wages. Peace restored Sept 90. Shock transfer to Sunderland which meant Boyd had to be procured. Good 1st season there but broke his leg 92-93 season. Moved onto Oxford and settled in the area. Recently had a trial with Hereford Utd. but decided to retire from professional football due to a blocked artery behind the knee. Living in Oxford with occasional forays for non- League Banbury Utd. Celtic 169 appearances gave 5 goals One of the "mature" players in the 89/90 side; Signed by Jock Stein in 1974; Adored as a player. This looked like TB's last season and he was clearly looking at ways forward as he got older. His last game for the Bhoys was in the Friendly against Ajax on 7/12/89 where he was subbed in the first half and threw his boots to the Jungle. Left in December '89 to join Killie as a player / manager St Mary's Boys Guild, though he had been offered a similar post with the Club.
