The Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS) is available to people with new or very recent minor eye problems to get the help that they need quickly and easily closer to home. Patients are able to self-present to an optometry or optician’s practice that provides this service.

The following eligible conditions can be referred to a participating Optometrist:

Blephari�s Epiphora (Watery Eye) Episcleri�s Glaucoma Referral Refinement (IOP) Re�nal Lesions Abrasion Cysts Posterior Vitreous Detachment

Amblyopia (Lazy Eye) Floaters and Flashes Inflamma�on Meibomian Gland Dysfunc�on

Trichiasis Allergies Chalazion Comorbidi�es (more complex than Tier 1) (Systema�c disease affec�ng the eye) Low Vision Pterygium Choroidal Naevus Foreign Body and Emergency Suspicion Contact Lens Removal Monitoring of OHT/Low Risk Glaucoma with Normal Visual Fields (Following diagnosis and stabilisa�on by Tier 4)
