SCOTTS VALLEY LITTLE LEAGUE FIELD GROUND RULES (updated June 2018) Lower field: - All gates must be closed at all times. - Concrete slabs at top of Dugouts are considered part of the dugout. If a ball enters the dugout area, play will be stopped and umpires will award bases. - No equipment bags, buckets etc. are allowed outside of the dugout, the concrete slab is considered the dugout which may be used for large bags or buckets. - Center field gate must be closed at all times if a ball rolls UNDERNEATH the gate the hit will be awarded as a ground rule double. On a batted ball in flight while a defensive fielder is trying to make a catch and goes thru the centerfield gate making a catch the umpire will determine if the hit is a homerun or a catch. - A batted ball in flight that hits the score board is a homerun. - For the purpose of clarification related to the “Adult in the dugout.” One adult must be down the steps inside the bottom portion of the dugout at all times. - Players in the first base dugout must ask for, and be awarded time, before going to the bullpen area. - Visitor side bull-pen requires a coach to monitor player warming-up as it is not visible from the dug-out. Upper field - All gates must be closed at all times. - Left and right field gates must be closed at all times. If a batted FAIR ball rolls UNDERNEATH the gate the hit will be awarded as a ground rule double. - A ball hit in flight that hits the score board is a homerun. - For the purpose of clarification related to the “Adult in the dugout.” One adult must be down the steps inside the bottom portion of the dugout at all times. .

Guide to Softball Rules and Basics History Softball was created by George Hancock in Chicago in 1887. The game originated as an indoor variation of baseball and was eventually converted to an outdoor game. The popularity of softball has grown considerably, both at the recreational and competitive levels. In fact, not only is women’s fast pitch softball a popular high school and college sport, it was recognized as an Olympic sport in 1996. Object of the Game To score more runs than the opposing team. The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins. Offense & Defense The primary objective of the offense is to score runs and avoid outs. The primary objective of the defense is to prevent runs and create outs. Offensive strategy A run is scored every time a base runner touches all four bases, in the sequence of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and home. To score a run, a batter must hit the ball into play and then run to circle the bases, counterclockwise. On offense, each time a player is at-bat, she attempts to get on base via hit or walk. A hit occurs when she hits the ball into the field of play and reaches 1st base before the defense throws the ball to the base, or gets an extra base (2nd, 3rd, or home) before being tagged out. A walk occurs when the pitcher throws four balls. It is rare that a hitter can round all the bases during her own at-bat; therefore, her strategy is often to get “on base” and advance during the next at-bat.

2021 FALL ADULT SOFTBALL LEAGUE INFORMATION Men’s and Coed Divisions The City of Irvine will not assume responsibility for injury. EVERYONE PARTICIPATES AT HIS OR HER OWN RISK. League play is governed by SCMAF rules except where City Of Irvine rules modify or supersede those rules, as outlined in this document. A Player Code of Conduct is strictly enforced to insure fair and wholesome play from all players. I. LEAGUE INFORMATION 1. Teams will play a guaranteed nine (9) scheduled games. League champions are determined by a single elimination playoff at seasons end. Depending on league size, not all teams will qualify for end of season playoff. 2. Weekday game times are 6:30 p.m., 7:40 p.m. and 8:50 p.m. Sunday game times are 4:50 p.m., 6:00 p.m., 7:10 p.m. and 8:20 p.m. 3. Games are played at Harvard Community Athletic Park (HCAP), 14701 Harvard Avenue, Bill Barber Community Park (BBC), 4 Civic Center Plaza (next to Irvine City Hall), Heritage Park (HPAF), Walnut and Yale, Mark Daily Fields (MDF), 308 West Yale Loop, Cypress Community Park (CP), 255 Visions, Orange County Great Park (GP), 8000 Great Park Blvd and David Sills Lower Peters Canyon Park (DSLPC), 3901 Farwell. 4. I'm not usually a picky eater, but I mainly lived on sticky rice for the first 4 days. There was a lot of dried fish and delicacies that didn't really appeal to me.At the end of the tournament in Taipei, there was a nice banquet.They're big on karaoke there, so each team performed a song. Our team had no clue what the Taipei teams were singing, but it was all good fun! There were only 12 songs in English to choose from, so we did a stirring rendition of "Those Old Cotton Fields Back Home".Then we sat down to eat. There was big cast iron pot on I never thought of softball as a way to see the world- the lazy Susan in front of me with a chicken in it. but it really can be. Last spring I learned of an opportunity I thought, "Oh boy! Something other than sticky rice!" I to play softball in Taiwan and japan in the 2009 Asia grabbed the ladle to dig in and was surprised when the Cup International Slow Pitch Championships. I was really ladle came out with the chicken head with the beak, comb interested, but a bit apprehensive because I don't know and wattle still attached. Back the ladle went.Too bad, back anyone else on the team. Most of the players were from to sticky rice!! It was an nice way to end this part of the Southern California.

Belvidere Youth Baseball - 10U Baseball Rules UPDATED 12/19/19 BYB Ground Rules adopted herein shall override any rules and regulations stated by the current National Federation of State High School Association publication in which all play shall be governed. 1. Grounds: A. No practices on BYB property without written approval from BYB Executive Board. B. Use of batting cages and pitching mounds are reserved for teams who have scheduled games. C. Groundskeeper has the authority to take possession of any field for the purpose of maintenance. D. Conditions of the grounds between games will be decided by the groundkeeper or by an Executive Committee member or the Chief Umpire. E. Infield practice is not allowed in between scheduled games. F. No batting balls other than whiffle balls against any BYB fence at any time. G. Pitching distance will be 46 feet from the front edge of the pitching rubber to the back point of home plate. H. Distance between bases will be 65 ft. I. A batted ball leaving the playing field through the fence or leaving the outfield after touching the ground if there is no fence shall be declared a ground rule double. J. Any ball rolling into another playing field is in play, unless the umpire calls interference. Interference shall be “One plus One”. The runner will get the base he is going to plus one base. K. Ray Herbert recalls surprise 20-win Sox season in ‘62 By Mark Liptak Posted Wednesday, October 30th, 2013 Winning 20 games is a feat in any era. It’s especially tough in the 21st century with pitchers working on four days’ rest and getting 35 or fewer starts. But it wasn’t a given in the mid-20th cen- tury when a bigger strike zone, no DH and four-man rotations increased the odds of a 20-win season for a capable starter. Some of the best-known Sox pitchers of modern times have not won 20 while working on the South Side – Mark Buehrle, Tommy John, Joel Horlen. Instead, some surprising names reached that pitching bench- mark like Ray Herbert, Esteban Loaiza and Jim Kaat. Herbert connects to the great Sox pitching staff of the 1960s. “Excellent” is the word that best describes a group that lead the American League in ERA Ray Herbert warming up at Comiskey Park during in four of five seasons between 1963 his surprise 20-win season in 1962 .
