Poleo3 ABSTRACT For the Canary Islands, the sea is a path of obligatory use and on whose depend- ence the economic development of the inhabitants of the Archipelago, has been based. The problems of inter-insular maritime transport has been, and continues to be, a constant and growing worry up to the present moment, given the almost zero cargo capacity of the aeroplanes that render their services in the islands. The boats that connect the islands have changed throughout the years, and these changes have been conditioned, in great part, by the special circumstances surrounding navigation in our waters: islands situated in open sea, exposed to all types of weather; particular meteorological conditions; swell; port infrastruc- tures, etc. These circumstances have made the islands be a true bank of trials for the main types of HSC: hydrofoils, air cushion vehicles, high-speed mono-hull crafts, SES, jet-foils and catamarans, all which have navigated and run different luck. Today, there are three companies operating high speed crafts in the islands: Fred Olsen with five big catamarans, Trasmediterránea with two jet-foils and Garajonay Express with two smaller catamarans. Key words: HSC, Marine Navigation, Navigation Evolution. RIBES ** ABSTRACT: The present paper is a first addition to tbe preliminary cataloguo Jf the Heteropteru-fauna of the Canary Islands (HEISS & BAEZ.1990) and includes corrections, new taxonomic assignmcnts and further citations from literature and several new records. 29 species are reported as new to the Canarian fauna, but one species is a synonym (Geocoris pvbescens Jak. = G.timidus Put.) and 8 spccies are regarded as doubtíidspccies inquirenda which should be deleted from the list. This brings the total number of species known to date from Canary Islands to 333. 1.1 N TRO D UC TI ON The publication of “A preliminary catalogue of the Heíeropíera of the Canary Islands” by HEISS & BAEZ (1990) as a compilation of the then available data from literature was an attempt to provide a kind of practica1 “check-list” without pretension of completeness. -

Changes Detected at Corralejo Dune Field from 1994 to 2014
CHANGES DETECTED AT CORRALEJO DUNE FIELD FROM 1994 TO 2014 ENRIQUE VAREA LOAYZA MASTER INTERUNIVERSITARIO EN OCEANOGRAFÍA TRABAJO DE FIN DE MASTER LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA, 2016 MASTER INTERUNIVERSITARIO EN OCEANOGRAFÍA UNIVERSIDAD DE LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA CHANGES DETECTED AT CORRALEJO DUNE FIELD FROM 1994 TO 2014 Tesis de Máster presentada por ENRIQUE VAREA LOAYZA Dirigida por Dr. IGNACIO ALONSO BILBAO Dra. MARÍA JOSÉ SANCHÉZ GARCÍA LOS DIRECTORES EL TESINADO Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 11 de julio de 2016 ABSTRACT Understanding coastal dune field evolution is a challenge because of their complex dynamic nature. This work has been carried out by means of photointerpretation of 5 orthophotos covering the period 1994-2014. A geographical information system has been developed, including information of the three geomorphological landforms (sand sheets, dune areas, and deflation surfaces) present in the area, as well two additional information layers (vegetation and artificial structures) that interact with the previous ones. The GIS also includes information of the dune crests movement over the same period, which has been correlated with gust wind data. Average migration rates are 8 m/y in the S-SSE direction. Geomorphological evolution indicates that dune areas are decreasing in the north and increasing in the south, as a result of the southward displacement of the mobile dunes. The opposite patter is found for the sand sheet unit. On the other hand, both vegetation and deflation surfaces shows a continuous increment in surface coverage, which in both cases is explained as a result of the lack of sediment supply into the dune system. -
