INDIA TO BECOME FASTEST GROWING LARGE ECONOMY IN 2018: REPORT India will overtake China to be the fastest growing large economy in 2018 and the country's equity market will become the fifth largest in the world, says Sanctum Wealth Management report. According to a report, when the rest of the world offers low growth and insufficient structural change, India, by contrast, is seen as a reforming economy with the prospect of strong long-term growth. At a time when developed economies are cheering 2-3 per cent growth, India is focused on breaching 7.5 per cent, it said. Moreover, India also benefits from a favourable contrast to other emerging markets. In particular, the fact that China is downshifting to a slower pace of growth. MAZHAPOLIMA Recharging Open Wells in the Coastal Riverine Island of VP Thuruth through ‘Mazhapolima’ improves water quality Implementing Partners Department of Revenue, GoK. Thrissur District Administration Methala, Eriyad & Edavilangu GPs KIDS- Kottappuram Mazhapolima Monitoring & Coordination Unit - Thrissur 1 Recharging Open Wells in the Coastal Riverine Island of (VP)Thuruth through ‘Mazhapolima’ improves water quality. Introduction: Valiya Panickan Thuruth, more popular by its acronym, ‘V.P. Thuruth’ is the 13th ward in the Methala Grama Panchayath, located adjacent to Kodungallur1. It is a riverine island located close to the confluence of Periyar River with the Arabian Sea. A series of islands2 formed in the Periyar confluence as a result of the massive flood in 13413. Consequent to the flood, the Kodungallur fort was inundated and got closed with natural embankments created by the flood. VP Thuruth4 was one such island formed in the Periyar as a result of the 1341 flood and resultant process. Satelite image of VP Thuruth at the confluence of Periyar River. A series of socio-political and economic processes converted VP thuruth from a low lying water logged land mass to a densely populated settlement colony today. These processes include reclamation and cultivation of the land using the services of tenant farmers, landlordism, tenant struggles, land reform laws enacted by the Government, redistribution of land to the tenants, creation of massive infrastructure related development projects like roads and bridges and influx of people into the Island to settle down. These processes not only changed the social and political profile of the island, but it also created problems of water scarcity, as a result of the man-made changes and interventions.

1 The Masjid-i Jami of Herat, the city's first congregational mosque, was built on the site of two smaller Zoroastrian fire temples that were destroyed by earthquake and fire. A mosque construction was started by the Ghurid ruler Ghiyas ad-Din Ghori in 1200 (597 AH), and, after his death, the building was continued by his brother and successor Muhammad of Ghor. In 1221, Genghis Khan conquered the province, and along with much of Herat, the small building fell into ruin. It wasn't until after 1245, under Shams al-Din Kart that any rebuilding programs were undertaken, and construction on the mosque was not started until 1306. However, a devastating earthquake in 1364 left the building almost completely destroyed, although some attempt was made to rebuild it. After 1397, the Timurid rulers redirected Herat's growth towards the northern part of the city. This suburbanization and the building of a new congregational mosque in Gawhar Shad's Musalla marked the end of the Masjid Jami's patronage by a monarchy. 2 This mosque was constructed in 1888 and was the first mosque in any Australian capital city. It has four minarets which were built in 1903 for 150 pounds by local cameleers with some help from Islamic sponsors from Melbourne. Its founding members lie in the quiet part of the South West corner of the city. 3 The Cyprus Turkish Islamic Community of Victoria was established in Richmond, Clifton Hill, and was then relocated to Ballarat Road, Sunshine in 1985 The Sunshine Mosque is the biggest Mosque in Victoria, and has extended its services to cater for ladies, elderly and youth groups.

Apart from the fact that it is the first systematic attempt as far as Kerala is concerned, its particular value lay in presenting a record of these rapidly vanishing cultural heritage. The Census report on fairs and festivals consists of two publications, Part VII B (i), Fairs and Festivals of Kerala containing the descriptive portion and Part VII B (ii), Fairs and Festivals of Kerala-Statements giving the tables relating to the fairs and festivals. The first part has already been published in 1966. It is the second part that is presented in this book. This publication is entirely a compilation of the statements furnished by various agencies like the Departments of Health Services, Police, Local Bodies, Revenue and the Devaswom Boards of Travancore and Cochin. This is something like a directory of fairs and festivals in the State arranged according to di'>tricts and taluks, which might excite the curiosity of the scholars who are interested in investigating the religiou, centres and festivals.
