Tell Tale Team Continental needs you to run for a board position. Nominations open at this month’s General meeting. How would you like to help guide the club in 2016?

VOLUME 25, ISSUE 10 October 2015

TC President's Message Greetings TC,

Hope you have had a great racing season, or are still having a great racing season. We are just about into the time when race cars get torn apart and rebuilt, and we have a bit of that with the club to do this win- ter as well. Now is the time to start thinking about board nominations and other positions that will need to be filled for the coming year. I’d like to extend a big thanks to all those have stepped up to help this year on the board, and with committee work and other key roles.

We especially in the short term, need someone to chair the banquet in January, and hopefully somebody that is looking to think outside the box for the format.

I’m excited to see us looking at some new format for emails for keep- ing in touch with the membership moving forward. Great stuff! We have new jackets on the way, excited to see those too!

Committees are working to figure out a strategy for next year, and hopefully we will have some strategies to share with you soon.

Get your calendars out, we have started to fill up the spring and summer. Instructor training will be at ORP March 19, and Driver Training/Track Day March 20. We have tentatively reserved labor day weekend 2016 (September 3,4,5) for a race.

Yours for the sport, Ben Weaver—Team Continental President

Merchandise Corner: New jackets have been ordered by those interested. We should have them in a few weeks. Thanks everybody who participated! Ben

Books and Movies for Folks that Love Racing and Cars By Kevin Smith After seeing this article in the September Tell-Tale, Brian Bogdon sent me a list of movies he had put together for this local movie theatre, that would appeal to car enthusiasts. Brian’s list was more all-encompassing than mine, so I’ve included it here, but with the ones already mentioned in September’s article culled out. Brian’s list had very nearly everything I had on my list, but also has many others. Here is Brian Bogdon’s list of “Movies for Petrol Heads”:

 The Greasy Hands Preachers (2014)  The Last Great Road Race / La Carrera Panameri-  Out of Nothing (2013) cana 2013  Boys of Bonneville: Racing on a Ribbon of Salt  Dust To Glory (2005) (2011)  Road To Baja, Documentary on Racing the Baja  The World’s Fastest Indian (2005) 1000  Patrick Dempsey: Racing Le Mans (2013)  Two Roads to Baja (2007)  Love The Beast (2005)  (1968)  Winning: The Racing Life of Paul Newman (2015)  Gone in 60 Seconds(1971)  Cars (2016)  Gone in 60 Seconds(2000)  Steve McQueen: The Man & Lemans(2015)  Fast and Furious (all 7, #8 expected in 2017)  Bullitt (1968)  The Fast and The Furious (1955)  (1965)  Smokey and the Bandit (1977)  The Hollywood Knights (1980)  (1983)  Demon On Wheels (2015)  Hooper(1978)  Snake and Mongoose (2013)  Rendezvous short film (1976)  Heart Like a Wheel (1983)  On Any Sunday (1971)  The Quest Documentary - About search for 1960  On Any Sunday - The Next Chapter (2014) #3 class winning Corvette.  One Man’s Island (2003)  “The Impossible Glory: The Story of America’s Greatest Racing Effort” That is a great list Brian. Some of these I have seen, quite a few I had never heard of, and they all look very inter- esting and fun. Brian’s inclusion of Stroker Ace reminded me to add another to the list: Greased Lightning (1977). Hope you will check some of these movies out, and have enjoyed the lists. TC Rule Change Vote Meeting

Board Member Reports (No reports not present): President (Ben Weaver): Would like to put on a silent auction fundraiser for the banquet. We need a lead chair- man for the banquet. Are we going to hold it at home or in Bend? Just one evening or a weekend? Race Chairman (Pete B): Pete is stepping down from race chair next year but will be helping with casting tro- phies and instructing. Executive Board Rep (Kevin S): Talked to insurance to adjust the rate since we had one less event. All club rates went up so we got back a lot of our money but not all of it. Treasurer (Val S): Container money went out and was delivered to ORP (Very close to where we made our pad). The insurance money has been adjusted from our change in not having the Oct. 3rd event. Contest Board Rep (Peter L): No rule change proposal. Membership (Dennis R): 177 TC members to date. Communications Director (Jeremy P): Not present but requested refund from MAVTV.

Committee Reports: Merchant Director (Ben Weaver): Jackets now available for pre-order on MSR. There are men's and women's sizes. Old merchandise will be going on clearance.

Old Business: * Thank you for everyone who came down to ORP and volunteered your time!! The pad for the container turned out great. Unfortunately the delivery trucks transmission failed as they were trying to place it. It's very close but not on the pad. * Pete B. is kindly donating shelves for the container, Thank you!

New Business: * E-mail went out as a notice that the Oct. 3rd event was canceled. * Mary Hill climb this weekend. * Fire extinguishers need to be picked up at ORP before the second weekend of October in fear that they will freeze. Call and arrange with ORP.

Motion to adjourn at 8:23pm by Ben Weaver, motion second by Jim L., motion passed. Respectfully submitted, Elizabeth Peters, TC Secretary

B/S and Boner discussion: * Dylan: Started a new auto body business, Gresham Collision Center Inc. On 150 NE Kelly Ave, Gresham, OR, come on down and check it out.

October 2015 TELL TALE 7

Team Continental- Board Meeting Minutes Date: October 7th, 2015 Location: Laurelwood Brewery Meeting was called to order by President Ben Weaver at 7:04pm.

President: Ben Weaver, Past President: Duane Starr, Vice President: Scott Olsen, Treasurer: Val Starr Membership Director: Dennis Roberts, Race Chairman: Pete Belfanti, Driving Master: Dylan Olsen, Secre- tary: Elizabeth Peters, Executive Board Rep: Kevin Smith, Merchant Director: Ben Weaver, Communication Di- rector: Jeremy Plance, Contest Board Rep: Peter Linssen

Board Meeting Minutes (No reports not present): President (Ben Weaver): 15 jackets ordered to date. Heat transfers were paid out of my pocket but got a free sam- ple in return. Selling jackets at cost price, so we’re not making money but not losing any either.

Treasurer (Val Starr): $1,755 paid towards chatterboxes out of Baggs fund. Container is paid for. Conference is paid except a $200 membership fee. Two radios were lost after the last event. We got a bill from Rick F. To replace them. Did these radios get mixed in with ORP's radios? Ask Rick if we can identify ours different to see if we left them behind and contact ORP. Did they really need to be replaced?

Membership Director (Dennis Roberts): 177 members to date. Nov 1st MSR open registration for membership. New cards need to be made for next year.

Driving Master (Dylan Olsen): no report; Ben: Any early date ideas for next year? Kevin: Fall meeting is November 14th and they just need our best guess at a date. But needs to be finalized in spring. Peter L.:Doesn't want to repeat history and thinks it's best to focus on one DT and one race event. Kevin: An off season rate driver's training worked well. Instead of a DT before Labor Day we could do a test and tune. Conference requires one school and one race event. Dylan will have a motion for dates by General meeting.

Eboard Rep (Kevin S): November 14th is the Fall meeting and is looking for an alternate. Possibly Jon? Needs dates for future events. And membership dues are due before meeting. Still looking for a storage area for the fire extinguishers from ORP.

Committee Reports: Tell-Tale (Kevin S): Looking for pictures of you and your race car to feature in the Tell-Tale! Meeting minutes and President’s are due by Thursday.

Old Business: * MAVTV Refund: Aaron missed the deadline with MAVTV so the show was cancelled. MSR is taking the lead on a class act lawsuit. Several clubs have had the same issue as us; We had no hostess, he double booked himself, offered a discount but hasn't responded since. The club can either join the class act or go on their own to make a small claim. Either way we are not looking at getting our money back soon. The club could settle for just getting the footage of the event. * The container still hasn’t quite worked it's way onto the pad. * Banquet needs a committee of volunteers.

New Business: * Bill M: Looking for some paid instructors for some winter course control & safety training this winter at ORP. Motion to adjourn at 8:32pm by Jeremy P., motion second by Kevin S., motion passed.

Respectfully submitted, Elizabeth Peters, TC Secretary
