Q5 Are the following a problem in the neighbourhood? Comments

THE MULTI CROSSING BETWEEN FALCONDALE RD - GREYSTOKE AVE AND PASSAGE RD DESPERATELY NEEDS A PEDESTRIAN CROSSING, YOU TAKE YOUR LIFE IN YOUR HANDS IF YOU TRY TO CROSS, THE TRAFFIC COMES FROM SO MANY WAYS AROUND CORNERS AND THE STRAIGHT THROUGH TRAFFIC TRAVELS SO FAST. MANY PEOPLE WOULD LIKE TO TRAVEL ON THE NO 1 BUS WITHOUT HAVING TO GET NO20 INTO THE VILLAGE TO CATCH IT UNROAD WORTHY VEHICLES THE POT HOLES ARE TERRIBLE. MOST JOURNEYS REQUIRE YOU TO GO INTO TOWN CENTRE WHICH IS NOT ALWAYS IDEAL. MORNING TRAFFIC HAS INCREASED. STATE OF ROADS IS APPALLING I WORK AT SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL - NO DIRECT BUS BIKES ON PAVEMENTS HEDGES GROWING OVER PAVEMENTS RESTRICTING SAFE WALKING NOT ABLE TO ACCESS PARK OR WOODS WITH DISABILITY SCOOTER TRAFFIC FUMES IN BETWEEN CONGESTION TIMES, CARS AND MOTOR BIKES TRAVEL FAR TOO FAST ON PEN PARK ROAD TOO MANY H.G.V TAKING A SHORT CUT THROUGH LANERCOST RD THERE WILL BE MAJOR TRAFFIC & PARKING ISSUES WHEN FRENCHAY HOSPITAL CLOSES AND ALL FACILITIES ARE AT SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL IN MAY IMPACT OF SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL AND CHANGES ON SOUTHMEAD RD/PEN PARK CYCLISTS ON PAVEMENTS SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL STAFF PARKING ON SIDE STREET PARKING BY ST PETERS HOSPICE MEETING OFTEN A PROBLEM PEOPLE DRIVE TOO FAST ON OUR STREET DOCTORS & AMBULANCE CANNOT MOVE FREELY CONSTANT ROADWORKS ARE VERY DISRUPTIVE TO TRAVEL/COMMUNITY CYCLISTS USING PAVEMENTS PARKING RESTRICTIONS, POOR STATE OF ROADS, CYCLISTS USING PAVEMENTS PUBLIC TRANSPORT TO PARKWAY STATION NEED TO RE-OPEN LOOP LINE parking on pavements, causing pedestrian obstruction in my area not enough parking spaces for visitors cyclists should obey the law HOSPITAL WORKERS PARKING BADLY ON SOUTHMEAD ROAD POT HOLES & DAMAGED ROADS Would like a P&R closer, Filton maybe Parking at Blandamour way and Jarrett Road Falkendale Road and Greystoke Avenue - taking chance crossing from one to another. Cycling on pavements / smoking in bus-shelters If people used common sense with parking then there would be no problems. TREES NEED CUTTING speeding along my road is awful. The chicane things work during rush hour but during the quieter periods cars often travel along the road in excess of 50mph because it is a cut through. There are lots of schools nearby and I believe speed tables need to be installed, or proper chicanes or speed cameras. It should definitely also be a 20mph limit POOR TRANSPORT FOR CHARLTON MEAD Cycle lanes would be good School should have children walking/cycling All public transport arrives in our area at the same time then wait 15mins then 3 follow each other

NEED FOR SOME PHYSIOTHERAPY FOR DISABLED AND ELDERLY PEOPLE WHO CAN NOT MANAGE TO GET OUT ON THEIR OWN WE HAVE QUITE A LOT IN NEW SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL WE ARE RIGHT NEXT TO THE HOSPITAL CANNOT GET APPOINTMENT MINOR OPERATIONS NOT SURE WHAT ACCESS IS ALREADY AVAILABLE HEALTH CARE PROVISIONS SEEMS ADEQUATE, EITHER AT DOCTORS SURGERY OR SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL/FRENCHAY SOUTHMEAD HEALTH CENTRE APPOINTMENT WAITING TIMES ARE APPALLING NOT AS LONG AS THESE SERVICES ARE STILL AVAILABLE AT SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL I THINK THAT IT IS DISGUSTING THAT THERE IS NO 24 HOUR A&E AVAILABLE AT SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL THIS IS OUR COMMUNITY HOSPITAL MORE TO BE CARRIED OUT AT GPS SURGEYS PHYSIOTHERAPY YES THEY COULD DO MINOR OP'S PHYSIOTHERAPY- TOO LONG A WAIT FOR HOSPITAL APP DOCTORS SURGERY & SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL ARE SUFFICIENT I would like there to be a mindfulness group in BS9 / BS10 somewhere like David Lloyd perhaps or the Greenway Centre? I would like the NHS to run the eight week mindfullness course developed by Jon Kabat Zinn and recommended by NICE to be provided on the NHS, maybe at Elsie Briggs house in Westbury Village (owned by the diocese of Clifton and available for community use) IT TAKES OVER A WEEK TO SEE GP TO THEN WAIT SEVERAL WEEKS FOR THE APPOINTMENT. IT IS FAR TOO LONG TO WAIT A&E REQUIRED WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO JUST SEE MY DOCTOR WITHOUT WAITING TWO WEEKS WE HAVE SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL PHYSIOTHERAPY NEEDS IMPROVING WALK IN CLINIC WOULD BE GOOD PHYSIO, MENTAL HEALTH, ARTHRITIS GRPS, EXERCISE SELF HELP THE HOSPITAL IS VERY CLOSE BY AVAILABLE WITHIN CITY, HAPPY TO TRAVEL PHYSIO WALK IN CENTRE WELL TREATED I LIVE NEAR/WORK IN SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL MAY NOT BE RELEVANT WITH NEW HOSPITAL SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL IS CLOSE ENOUGH PHYSIOTHERAPY AT GP SURGERIES WOULD BE GOOD WE HAVE SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL OUT OF HOURS SERVICE / GREENWAY PRACTICE HYDROTHERAPY I THINK PERSONALLY THERE SHOULD BE AFTER HOURS APPOINTMENTS FOR WORKING PEOPLE AND WEEKENDS SHOULD BE OPEN NOT JUST WEEK DAYS MINOR INJURIES, CHIROPODIST Have to travel for physio etc. Would be good to have local. Mental health issues

36 Southmead Community Research

Q14 Would you like more access to health? Comments physiotherapy A GOOD QUALITY CLINIC WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA IN THIS AREA TO FREE UP A&E DEPARTMENTS HOPEFULLY THE NEW HOSPITAL WOULD DO THIS WAITING TIMES ARE TOO LONG new hospital on doorstep Already have a lot fairly local, W.O.T, but this could be improved & expanded to other services Most things i have needed have been available at southmead hospital To decongest the hospital Chiropody for diabetics southmead hospital on doorstep - be sensible! Always room for improvement at S'Mead Health Centre Save time going to hospital The above would relieve some of the pressure on nhs hospital services Physiotherapy i think this could be a positive thing for the elderly etc Physiotherapy physio-due to age, operation would not happen Would like doctors to call at night

Lack of advertising Not needed We are heavily involved in our Church, jobs and family life leaving little time for other things. As life stages occur we look up things in the community eg. When we had babies we went to toddler groups. School is now the focus of things for the children and groups etc usually accessed through church or school Charlton Mead Drive is a distance from these opportunities, it all focuses on if you live in the centre of Southmead Not at convenient times Not known about some and don't like going to new places on my own I work. Busy with work, family life and friends i have'nt heard of them . To be honest I don't always have the time as I work full time and have to take my sons football training and their other activities they do.

Q22 If you haven't accessed any of these services is there a reason why? Comments

busy working hours i did not know they were there work full time A carer is needed to access community activities & they cost money so have to prioritise what he goes to Bad experience with southmead house made me feel not part of southmead and not welcome here Have not found need to use Old Age No time Busy with children Time & working new born Access services outside of southmead have not known about many of these Lack of confidence / fear of rejection just don't know about them don't like going on my own did not know about them plus can not walk very well bit shy no-one to go with because i don't want to because they are bad i barely see these places Not interested it’s a bad community, i spend more time out of southmead than in it due to this. don`t know what some of them are but I don`t do the ones I know never heard of them Didn't know they existed. I didn't know about them because i am always somewhere else i go to horfield or just go out to the shops didnt know about them. I don't know where many of these places are or when and what time they take place. i haven't access these facilities due to work. staying at home looking after each other happy at home I have not lived in Southmead since 2011 I have done some work at "learn Direkt", yrs ago - health reasons are stopping me to get involved at the moment I feel more connected to friends and family in other parts of the city. I have lived in Southmead for around 7 years but have always felt like a bit of an outsider. I don't feel welcomed by the community and am reluctant to socialise locally. Not interested Work full time, care for an elderly man and spend time with children and grandchildren weekends There's no advertising

PLEASE ENSURE SIMPLE CIRCULAR BUS ROUTES TO LINK W.O.T ARNESIDE / PROPOSED AT AIRFIELD TRAFFIC EFFECT ON TRANSPORT LOADS MORE TRAFFIC ON SOUTHMEAD & PEN PARK RD MORE TRAFFIC, IE CARS TRAFFIC I WORK THERE & HUGE LOSS TO THE AREA MORE TRAFFIC CONGESTION / NOISE I LIVE ON THE JUNCTION OF GREYSTOKE AVE, FALCONDALE RD, RUSH HOUR IS QUITE OFTEN CHAOS CAN’T GET IN OR OUT OF ROAD. WE CANNOT HAVE ANYMORE CARS ON THE RD. I WORK WITH PEOPLE NOW WHO STRUGGLE TO GET TO WORK WITH ALL THE TRAFFIC. PUBLIC TRANSPORT IS AWFUL BUSES DON’T TURN UP ON TIME, RUDE DRIVERS (…) I WALK PAST THE LOCAL DRIVING TEST CENTRE I HAVE NEVER SEEN IT SO BUSY AS THE LAST 3YEARS. SO YES I BELIEVE THE DEVELOPMENT WILL HAVE A HUGE IMPACT ON MYSELF AND FAMILY. THE TRAFFIC WILL OBVIOUSLY INCREASE (….) I SOMETIMES CANNOT EXIT MY ROAD THE CONGESTION IS GETTING WORSE. NOT TO MENTION THE NOISE OF THESES LOUD ENGINES AND NOISE OF THE SMALL BIKES RIDDEN BY YOUNGSTERS UP AND DOWN PEN PARK RD SCHOOLING MORE TRAFFIC TOO MUCH TRAFFIC NOISE OF AIRCRAFT THERE IS BOUND TO BE MORE TRAFFIC & POLLUTION COMMUTER TRAFFIC OF COURSE IT WOULD THERE WILL BE TOO MANY CARS / POLLUTION/ NOISE GREEN SPACES WILL GO IT WILL BE GRIDLOCK AND WE WOULD HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT FOREVER. I DO NOT GO OUT NEAR CHRISTMAS BECAUSE OF ALL THE CARS. IT STARTS AT PEN PARK / KNOLE LANE/ CIBBS. I ONCE GOT COUGHT IT TOOK ME 3HRS TO GET HOME NEVER WOULD I FALL FOR THAT AGAIN TRAFFIC WILL BECOME A PROBLEM AT BUSY TIMES - THE VIEW OUT OF OUR WINDOW WILL BE LESS IDEALIC, BUT HOPEFULLY THE DEVELOPMENT WILL OFFER MORE FACILITIES, SCHOOLS, HEALTHCARE, PARKS, JOBS & NICE HOUSING INCREASED TRAFFIC AND PRESSURE ON PUBLIC SERVICES, SCHOOLS HARDLY ANY OF THE ROADS IN THE LOCAL AREA- 10 MILE RADIUS ARE ALL IN A VERY, VERY POOR STATE OF REPAIR CREATING MASSIVE NEW ESTATES WITH NOWHERE FOR TRAFFIC TO MOVE FREELY IS A VERY DANGEROUS MOVE FOR THE AREA (….) SCHOOLS CANT COPE EVERY THING IS BEING PUSHED TO THE LIMIT. SENSE MUST PREVAIL I THINK IT WILL FREE UP HOUSES AND MAKE THE HOUSING SITUATION IN SOUTHMEAD BETTER HOPEFULLY MORE PEOPLE WILL MOVE TO FILTON AND SOUTHMEAD COUNCIL WILL REALIZE THE APPEARANCE AND STATE THEIR COUNCIL HOUSES ARE WAY BELOW AVERAGE AND ITS VERY HARD TO GET IMPROVEMENTS MADE. I HAVE BEEN WAITING 2YEARS FOR THEM TO FIX A FAULTY FLOOR BOARD THAT THEY BROKE WHEN FITTING THE CENTRAL HEATING AND I AM IN DESPERATE NEED OF A NEW BATHROOM AND KITCHEN AS THE CONDITION OF THEM WHEN WE MOVED IN WAS DISGRACEFUL AND HAVE BEEN TOLD MY AREA ARE NOT ON THE LIST AT THE MOMENT I HAVE TO PUT UP WITH A FAMILY KITCHEN UNTIL ITS OUR TURN TO BE SEEN ADDITIONAL HOMES ON THE OLD FILTON AIRFIELD WILL INCREASE TRAFFIC LEVELS IN THE AREA, WHERE THE RESIDENTS OF THESE NEW HOME CHOOSE TO WORK IN THE CITY OR SUBURBS ADJACENT TO MY HOME AREA, WHICH IS OFF FALCONDALE ROAD CONGESTION OVER CONGESTION I LIVE BY IT, IT WILL MAKE TRAFFIC EVEN WORSE THAN IT IS IN THE MORNING

NO BUILDING THANK YOU TRAFFIC / PUBLIC TRANSPORT DON’T WANT IT TRAFFIC, NOISE, POLLUTION TRAFFIC more housing will further clog the local infrastructure NOISE FUEL SMELLS TRAFFIC MORE TRAFFIC BRING TOO MANY CARS ON LOCAL ROADS TRAFFIC i thing it will cause more traffic problems MUCH MORE CONGESTION TRAFFIC ON PEN PARK ALREADY VERY BUSY MORE CONGESTION LOCAL ROAD REALLY WORRIED ABOUT TRAFFIC, LARGE LORRIES AND USING IT AS A RAT RUN. DO NOT WANT 20 ZONE BUT WOULD LIKE TRAFFIC CALMING MEASURES E.G CHICANE, SLEEPING POLICEMAN/ ROAD HUMPS, WIDTH BARRIERS TRAFFIC INCREASE TRAFFIC PROBLEMS CONCERNED ABOUT DEVELOPMENT AS LONG AS THEY ARE AFFORDABLE TO BUY /RENT BUT NOTHING THAT HAS BEEN BUILT IS CRIMINALS WILL BE MORE MOBILE BECAUSE OF INCREASED ACCESS TRAFFIC WILL GET WORSE LOCAL DISTRIUBTION - HEAVY LORRIES/ NOISE/EXTRA TRAFFIC ON ROADS HAPPY LIVING WHERE I AM MORE TRAFFIC GET OUR RAILWAY STATION BACK AT HENBURY, FILTON NORTH IT WILL BE ABSOLUTE DISASTER FOR BS10 ROADS CONGESTED NOW WILL BE WORSE WHEN DONE WE LIVE ON THE EDGE OF FILTON AIRFIELD THE TRAFFIC AND NOISE WILL IMPACT ON US. I HAVE LIVED IN THE AREA FOR 49 YEARS AND OUR PEACEFUL LIFE WILL BE MADE UNBEARABLE WILL ADD TO THE TRAFFIC PROBLEMS WORRIED ABOUT TRAFFIC INCREASE TRAFFIC A DEVELOPMENT OF THAT SIZE WILL NEED MORE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY, MORE SHOPS AND MORE TRAFFIC TRAFFIC CONGESTION POSSIBLY TRAFFIC BUT NOT SURE THE ROADS WILL NOT COPE WITH THE EXTRA TRAFFIC AND LOCAL ROADS WILL BE EVEN MORE CONGESTED IN A GOOD WAY YES THERE WILL BE TRAFFIC NOISE & OTHER POLLUTION ISSUES

88 Southmead Community Research

Q31 Do you believe the development on Filton Airfield will impact on you? Comments

TRAFFIC FLOW WOULD INCREASE ALONG CHARLTON ROAD INCREASE TRAFFIC INCREASED CONGESTION AND POLLUTION ROAD CONGESTION AND POLLUTION OF ATMOSPHERE. MORE GREEN LAND GONE POTENTIAL TRAFFIC PROBLEMS TRAFFIC TRAFFIC CONGESTION HOUSE PRICE RISING TRAFFIC IMPACT, POLLUTION AND EXTRA GREEN SPACES AND SCHOOL TRAFFIC / POLUTION I LOVE TO MOVE JUST WANT A NEW PLACE A FLAT WITH IN TIME MORE TRAFFIC WILL, EACH YEAR THERE ARE MORE ROAD WORKS GOING ON. PLUS WITH THIS IT WILL BE EVEN MORE WORSE THAN IT IS NOW If road across Charlton Common is opened up it will be used as a rat run and the surrounding roads are not good enough for the increase in traffic and pollution that will follow will impact on health in the area. HAVE NOT SEEN PLANS TOO MUCH TRAFFIC Maybe more traffic on the main roads!? MOVING OUTSIDE OF BRISTOL SOON, ONE OF THE KEY REASONS TO MOVE AWAY FROM BRISTOL WAS UNAFFORDABLE COST OF LIVING, HIGH HOUSE PRICES IN BRISTOL MORE TRAFFIC COULD BE GOOD TRAFFIC / CONGESTION/ PEOPLE TRAFFIC VOLUME TRAFFIC CONGESTION/ POLLUTION BUT I AM NOT AGAINST IT, AS IT IS NEEDED I LIVE ON THE CHARLTON MEAD ESTATE Traffic, Pollution & demoralising that Bristol let this land be sold off but as with lots of decisions in Bristol i.e sell of community green spaces the whole lot stinks. Protect green spaces for future generations Better route for transport may ease traffic SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN MORE HOUSES/ MORE PEOPLE / MORE TRAFFIC roads not suitable. improved my house and don't want to move unless problems arise. I think that it is a disgrace the Airfield made a profit when it closed, this is a joke [….] we live on the Charlton Mead Drive, our road will be more difficult to get out on with the extra volume traffic, there are lots of children, elderly people, trying to cross Charlton Road every day. There are going to be more accidents. BAC drive down the road like a race track, I don't see why they should have access to Charlton Road. Should be closed down. WE HAVE NOT BEEN GIVEN ANY INFORMATION NO JOBS Don't want access via Charlton Road for filton Airport area residents as it will decrease significantly the quality of life in this area TOO MUCH TRAFFIC MORE TRAFFIC AND MORE PEOPLE POLLUTION IN THIS PART OF BRISTOL - MORE RUBBISH,PETROL FUMES, PRESSURE ON PUBLIC SERVICES INC - POLICE, HEALTH AND EDUCATION

Q31 Do you believe the development on Filton Airfield will impact on you? Comments

MORE TRAFFIC PROBLEMS Traffic impact in our area Traffic choas More Traffic Very unwise to close filton airfield Increase of traffic danger to older people crossing to shops in charlton road Our estate is next to airfield, worried about traffic on charlton road we believe on charlton rd will be used as a rat run, more traffic Traffic congestion at all times of the day losing airfield is tragic traffic traffic increase I am not sure whether I'm getting all the relevant information about development work - not much info about. For the better i hope, but fear any comments will have little effect on the outcome there are inadequate roads Increase in traffic would greatly affect the area already becomes quite congested around charlton road shops We do not need extra housing estates causing traffic problems and flooding This will increase the volume of traffic through this area. Therefor more traffic more noise more pollution Traffic in particular Above will raise property [prices] Traffic problems in area Increase traffic & pollution we would get even more build up of traffic along southmead road and leading up to there. If they are putting up more houses Traffic in the area is already a problem. Extensive re-development must only be allowed if sufficient infra structure comes with it. Roads buser, schools. shops churches community facilites ect, doctors, sports Traffic congestion is already an issue how on earth can the infastructure cope! My journey to work is increasing and increasing. At what point is it no longer feasible to balance time in the car with work! (minus) traffic, (plus) improvement in neighbourhood 1000+ dwellings will change the infrastructure dramatically I live next to airfield. Will not be able to get off our estate. social housing will bring problems with increased break-ins etc. Rental opportunity Traffic/water sewer supplies/open spaces/flooding/pollution//OVERCROWDING Traffic congestion will impact I think with all the history of filton airfield it should never been sold, i am sure there are other more acceptable uses for it It will have a massive impact on all the north of bristol Traffic horrendous already Increased Traffic May have a postive effect / access to employment Traffic problems Traffic problems due to new development

90 Southmead Community Research

Q31 Do you believe the development on Filton Airfield will impact on you? Comments

Might effect the water supply and also there will be an excessive amount of heavy traffic and a strain on the bristol city council depends where it is built All the building materials will be transported along charlton road for approx 10 years (past my front door!!) heavy lorries & widening of roads Impact on intrastructure Increased traffic

TOO OLD MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES DEEMED TO OLD/OVER QUALIFIED NO ALWAYS WORKED I VOLUNTEER AT AN ANIMAL SANCTUARY OUTSIDE BRISTOL NOT PAID ENOUGH AGEISM NEVER NO I HAVE HAD THE SAME JOB FOR 41 YEARS I HAVE A DEGREE BUT I ALSO HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN , I WOULD NOT KNOW HOW TO CONVERT THAT DEGREE INTO A JOB THAT WOULD ALLOW ME TO DO BOTH - FLEXIBLE WORK CAN BE HARD TO FIND PARTICULARLY AS I HAVE NO WORK EXPERIENCE AFTER UNI MOST OF THE ABOVE APPLY TO WHEN I WAS YOUNGER SO AM NOT NOW AWARE OF CURRENT PROBLEMS I AM A HR MANAGER & HAVE PREVIOUSLY SUPPORTED COLLEGES WITH CV/ INTERVIEWING SKILLS I WOULD BE HAPPY TO DO THIS IN SOUTHMEAD RETIRED NOW WORKED ALL MY LIFE CRIMINAL RECORD STOPS ME FROM APPLYING FOR JOBS, I GET TURNED DOWN FOR A LOT OF JOBS BECAUSE OF THIS BEING A SINGLE MOTHER NOT ENOUGH HOURS PLUS NO GUARANTEED WAGE LACK OF EXPERIENCE AFTER UNIVERSITY INTERVIEW SKILLS SOMETIMES MY SON WALKS TO FILTON COLLEGE THERE IS NO DIRECT BUS. YOU CAN GO FROM SOUTHMEAD TO THE MALL, CITY CENTRE, GLOUCESTER ROAD BUT YOU CAN NOT GO TO PATCHWAY/ AZTEC WEST/ BRADLEY STOKE/ STOKE GIFFORD I FIND IT DIFFICULT FINDING WORK AS MY HOURS TO BE WORKED CAN ONLY BE BETWEEN 12-2 FROM SEPT 2014, MY PARTNER WORKS FULL TIME AND IS ON SHIFT WORK WHICH MEANS I CAN ONLY WORK MON-FRI AND NOT ABLE TO WORK WEEKENDS Can't drive There are plenty of opportunities, local people are very lazy and stuck in benefit trap. financial support to retrain Plenty qualifications but disabled people are not wanted by employers because they might not stay well enough. So therefore forced to not work even though I would love to work again. There is a lack of professional trade training resources, i.e. plumbing and Gas-safe. I have personally tried to improve my own trade skills and the government system is not providing the support to achieve this. I tried to undertake a Gas-safe course at Filton College. I started then found I would lose all/any benefits that I would be entitled to. As a result I had to withdraw from the course and furthermore found myself in debt to Filton College (£835.00). I lost all faith in the system. Had I been able to successfully complete this course I know that my employment issues would be safer. I now find that I am in and out of work and therefore rely on benefits - a debt to our nation that I do not want. I WOULD NEED TO UPDATE MY SKILLS IN ORDER TO RETURN TO TH EMPLOYMENT MARKET Although have qualifications rejected through no experience it was hard but i managed to work & pay for child support & worked to gain qualifications often more than one job i worked until i was 73 Retired now, but always worked no problem finding a job then Loved working all his life

MOST QUESTIONS DO NOT APPLY TO ME I have lived in Southmead for 4 years, and whilst I have found the people here very friendly and helpful, there are a number of aspects which, in my opinion, let the area down. Firstly, bonfires in the summer months, which make the house and my clothes smell. Secondly, dog fouling of the pavements, together with litter in the roads and pavements. Too many gardens look like rubbish tips, although many are improving. And finally...... i hear too much foul language, often in the presence of young children! THERE ARE NO COMMUNITY FACILITIES IN OLD SOUTHMEAD/ NO PHARMACY IN OLD SOUTHMEAD/ NO DROP OFF POINT FOR THIS DOCUMENT IN OLD SOUTHMEAD I WOULD LIKE BRISTOL CITY COUNCIL TO START ENFORCING IRRESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP DOGS SHOULD NOT BE KEPT ON COUNCIL FLATS LIMIT 1 DOG PER HOUSEHOLD. I HAVE A SMALL DOG HAS BEEN ATTACKED IN SOUTHMEAD PARK NEARLY KILLED, THE DOG MESS IN THE PARK LANE & DONCASTER PARK REALLY BAD. I HEAR ON A DAILY BASIS OF DOGS ATTACKING SMALL DOGS. MANY OF THESES PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD TO FEED THEMSELVES LET ALONE A DOG. THESE DOGS HAVE POTENTIAL TO KILL A BABY OR CHILD BRING A PENSIONER, PEOPLE IN SOUTHMEAD ARE STILL VERY FRIENDLY AND WILLING TO HELP, PITY THERE ARE NOT MANY GOOD SHOPS THIS END, SO HAVE TO CATCH BUS TO GREYSTOKE AVENUE THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH WORKING CLASS PEOPLE ARE NOISE ALCOHOL DRUGS AND THEIR DOGS FOULING THE PARKS. THIS IS DOWN TO GENERATIONS OF IGNORANCE ENHANCED BY LACK OF EDUCATION. CHILDREN GROW UP IN A BENEFITS CULTURE AND LACK OF GUIDANCE FROM THE PEOPLE WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO NURTURE THEM I THINK THIS SURVEY IS EXTREMELY USEFUL FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE INVOLVED IN LOCAL ACTIVITIES THAN ME WOULD LIKE THE OWNERS OF THE DOGS CAN CLEAN THE MESS UP I HAVE LITTLE CHILDREN. THE OTHER FACT I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT IS THAT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE WORKING IN SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL HAVE PARKED THEIR CARS RIGHT ON THE PAVEMENT . THEREFORE I AS A MOTHER HAVE NO SPACE TO PUSH MY CHILDREN IN THEIR PRAM. I THEREFORE HAVE TO WALK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE CAREFULLY LOOKED AT REHOUSING FOR SOUTHMEAD ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE BIDDING LINE BEEN ON THERE SINCE AUGUST TILL NOW PHONE CALLS COST ME DEARLY WHO IS GOING TO REIMBURSE ME FOR OVER 18 MONTHS OF CALLS AND NO HELP TO GET OUT OF A LONELY PLACE THINK ITS GREAT THAT YOU'RE DOING THIS SURVEY. INTERESTED IN RESULTS I FOUND LOTS OF QUESTIONS DID NOT APPLY TO ME , NOT BECAUSE I AM OLD BUT I HAVE NOT FELT THE NEED FOR A LOT OF THE SERVICES. I AM IMPRESSED AT THE RANGE OF SERVICES THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO THOSE THAT NEED THEM SOUTHMEAD NEEDS A VAST AMOUNT OF MONEY SPENT ON IT, IT LOOKES SHABBY & VERY RUN DOWN. IT NEEDS TO LOOK LIKE WESTBURY VILLAGE, PERHAPS IT COULD BE KNOWN AS SOUTHMEAD VILLAGE WITH SOME NICE SHOPS CAFE, THE LOCALS THAT CURRENTLY GO IN THE SHOPS ARE THE CHARACTERS THAT SWEAR ALOT AND ARE GENERALLY THE TYPE OF PEOPLE YOU WOULD NOT WANT YOUR CHILDREN TO MIX WITH STOP PEOPLE CYCLING ON PAVEMENT ITS ILLEGAL TO DO SO I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS BI-LAW IS NOT ENFORCED SOUTHMEAD NEEDS A LOT OF MONEY SPENT ON IT TO IMPROVE THE LOOK OF IT BETTER FACILITIES WOULD ENCOURAGE MORE PEOPLE WHO WORK TO USE THE FACILITIES RATHER THAN THOSE THAT DONT THANK YOU THIS IS A GREAT IDEA AND THANK YOU WORRIED ABOUT STAFF FROM SOUTHMEAD HOSPITAL PARKING ALL AROUND HOUSING ESTATE PARKING / GREYSTOKE AVE / ROAD SURFACE

ALL WE WANT IN SOUTHMEAD IS RESIDENT ONLY PARKING THE MEAD & SCART DO AN AMAZING JOB I would like to learn more about services, dedicated services, provided for and to LGTB community members in BS9 and BS10 to challenge the homophobia, prejudice, bigotry THE ONLY THING I SEE TOO OFTEN IN SOUTHMEAD I DON’T LIKE IS PEOPLE DRINKING ON THE STREET IN THE DAY - MORE COULD BE DONE BUT I KNOW THIS IS TRUE OF MOST PLACES THE SURVEY IS TOO LONG, THE MORE DETAILED IT IS THE MORE LIKELY IT IS THAT ONE ANSWER WILL CONTRADICT A LATER ONE HAPPY IN SOUTHMEAD HAVE NOTICED OVER THE YEARS FRONT GARDENS OF PEOPLES HOMES HAVE BECOME A DUMPING SITE MAKING THE AREA VERY UNTIDY THE AREA IN WHICH WE ARE SITUATED WE ARE CLOSER TO BRENTRY AREA OR SOUTH GLOS AND SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE SOUTHMEAD AREA MORE SHOULD BE DONE TO GIVE SOUTHMEAD A GOOD NAME AND STOP PUTTING SO MANY PROBLEMS FAMILIES HERE I AM VERY INTERESTED IN MY COMMUNITY AND MAKING IT A BETTER PLACE JUST RETIRED WOULD LIKE TO GET INVOLVED IN LOCAL COMMUNITY I WOULD JUST LIKE INFORMATION AT THE MOMENT TO SEE IF I WOULD LIKE TO GET INVOLVED WITH ANYTHING SURVEY APPEARS TO TARGET WORKING AGE PEOPLE LIVING ON MAIN SOUTHMEAD ESTATE MANY OF THE QUESTIONS ARE IRELAVANT TO RETIRED PEOPLE SUCH AS OUR SELVES LIVING IN PRIVATE HOUSING ON NORTH SIDE OF AREA WHO HAVE LIMITED NEED TO USE OR VISIT FACILITIES DESCRIBED IN SURVEY MANY THANKS FOR THIS SURVEY. I WOULD LIKE TO BE PART AS WELL I FEEL MORE PART OF WESTBURY ON TRYM THAN SOUTHMEAD AND USE MORE OF THE FACILITIES THERE. IT IS ONLY MY CHURCH & HEALTHCARE THAT IS IN SOUTHMEAD DOG MESS IS A MASSIVE PROBLEM IN SOUTHMEAD BUT I DO NOT THINK IT FITS INTO THE QUESTION. THERE IS NO ENFORCEMENT, FOR DOGS FOULING IN THE STREET OR IN BADOCKS WOOD, WHERE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO WORK WITHOUT STEPPING IN DOG MESS Really well put together survey and i learnt a lot just by completing it. I THINK THAT CRIME IS MOST IMPORTANT PROBLEM IN SOUTHMEAD SHOULD HAVE A SURVEY LIKE THIS ONE EVERY6 MTH SO PEOPLE COULD EXPLAIN WHAT IS NEEDED, HELP AND SUPPORT GRP. DIFFERENT IDEAS AND OPINIONS ARE IMPORTANT TO MEET THE PUBLIC NEEDS Variety of other shops for the Southmead Rd area.

EG Chemist, butcher Higher control on JSA. My husband works 40+ hrs and I work 18hrs. We had 2 kids and a large mortgage. Not convinced that people are really heard there is very little opportunity to be creative e.g. southmead festival and other groups consist of the same faces There are problems with the following: cycling on pavements; dogs roaming without owner, dogs not on lead, litter and fly tipping, unsafe pavements, speeding motorists, unreliable bus services (especially the number 2) Greystoke Avenue is in a poor condition and Bath Road and pavements. Feel sad to see dirty run down state of Southmead. No decent veg shops, plenty of take-aways. Post Office absolutely appalling, feel embarrassed to take visitors in - filthy counters and ceiling - always long queues, bank machine outside filthy too - never go inside now. Dogs allowed freely daily (I see an an Alsation) to run on green and foul. No respect from children. Walking around Henleaze seems a different world. We need decent fruit/veg shops. Clean PO and a skate park or nice area for young ones. Maybe a drama group. Maybe a mobile work dept to help young ones find a job.

Q41 Please include any other comments here:

Only not everyone is mad about sport on telly or off and it creates a situation where some of the more alternative interests get overlooked and shelved at best, or just ignored. Especially arts, crafts and music. I believe that Bristol is very positive about our efforts to recycling. However, there are NO provisions in Southmead for us to locally recycle things, i.e. waste, plastics, glass, tin, paper or cardboard. my nearest recycling in Tesco at Golden Hill or the Refuge Depot which is 3-3 miles away. We had a paper recycling centre in Southmead with CCTV surveillance to reduce crime. THIS AREA OF SOUTHMEAD WARD I.E, CHARLTON MEAD AREA AND BEYOND - HAVE NO FACILITIES WHAT SO EVER, NOBODY SEEMS TO BE INTERESTED IN THIS AREA, PERHAPS WE WOULD BE BETTER OF IN THE STH GLOS BOUNDRY OR HENBURY/BRENTRY. THIS IS A BRILLIANT WAY TO GET INFO The lack of refuse collection makes this part of Bristol seem like the third world. We need more pleasant play area for children.

We need more cycling routes and parks. Something needs to be done with the site of the old wayfair pub It is an eyesore and brings the area down. Have had name down for allotment some years now yet heard nothing & would love to grow own veg/fruit pity there is not more of these. All council interest is in the southmead area location like Charlton mead estate are ignored. For example no children play area, 5 local shops in all. Charlton road , crom, mini roundabout to airfield is a race track between 8.00-9.00, 12.00-1.00 and again 4.30-6.00 with employees working on the air field Don't feel Charlton mead area is part of southmead unless being canvased for council or elections. We miss out of most the southmead projects, Perhaps with a new development in the future play parks and other benefits will come our way for our children & teenagers I have a full life outside with my garden and allotment Although there are several parks and green space in southmead, there are no play parks within walking distance of where we live in charlton mead drive. It is a shame to have to use the car whenever i take the children to the park. Also wanted to praise the facilities for children at southmead library and the staff are great. youth facilities and social activities are needed desperately Well done I had no choice where I wanted to live I was put here, I do not use any facilities in southmead would like to know outcome of Southmead Survey Regarding parking, I am very upset that pedestrians sometimes have to walk on the road or grass verges because cars, vans are parked on the pavement. Road tax is for parking on roads, pavement tax has not been invented yet. Also police will drive by or walk and do nothing I feel it seems to much trouble for them I would like to volunteer at southmead hospital-keeping with elderly Please please sort the pavements along Greystoke out. You can't get buggies past peoples over growing hedges, the pavements are dangerous (my elderly neighbour broke her hip when she fell on it!). Also the state of parking and speeding along the road. Grass areas are churned up by parking and look a mess and speeding is endemic! When will they do something - when a child dies??!! Thank you for the opportunity to have a say. Cheap Housing /Serviced Self Build Plots that are CHEAP As mentioned Charlton Mead Drive is sometimes included as being Southmead but fails to be included on other occasions. I think the work being done in area and literature about what's going on is really good and inspiring. Just want the Community of Southmead to transform from a standard "white urban Council house Estate" to be the BEST place to live for EVERYONE!!! :) x Rob needs support to access community due to his disability to improve quality of life I hope that I win! (only joking) I am not well enough to get involved with any activity at the moment - poss next 24 month -
