Whilst most of the family stayed in , one branch moved to the North East of , whilst other members of the family went to Ontario in Canada, and to Rhode Island in the USA. William Horsman 5022 c.1733 – 1818 Birkin / William first married Betty Hill and had 4 children; then Knottingley married Martha Ringrose. More work is needed on his son John’s family. George 3224 c.1774 – 1884 Bramley, Leeds George was a Clothier, and married twice, both times to Horsman ladies called Sarah. A major branch of this family were shopkeepers in the Kirkstall Road area. Edward 7210 ? – 1732 Burneston Edward married Jane Hebden in 1705, and they had 7 Horseman children. John married Hannah Tiffany at Pateley Hartwith Bridge in 1808, fathered 4 children, then vanished Leonard 8133 ? – 1585 Dallowgill Leonard was married to Katherine. His will shows that they Horsman had 8 children. No male descendants can be identified in this line. William 4320 ? - ? Dallowgill / Kirkby William's Great Grandson Edward was born in about 1765 Horsman Malzeard and married Sarah, before moving to Blackburn, Lancs. Only the baptism of Edward's son Robert can be found, but there are several Horsman families in the Blackburn area, which I am sure are descended from Edward. But where are the baptisms? Edward 2083 c. 1746 – 1810 Fenton He married Hannah Lamb in 1766, and lived at Little Horsman Fenton. This is a very large family which moved throughout the UK. Thomas 301 c.1766 – 1827 Gargrave Thomas was a Miller, who married 3 times, but his Horsman descendents are all from his third wife Alice. This is an extensive family, one branch of which were industrialists in India, with a sub branch of this moving to Southern Ireland. The mystery is, where was Thomas from? Enoch 3602 c.1774 – 1843 Halifax Originally from Leeds (parents George & Hannah), he Horseman married Mary Thorp in 1793 and had 4 children. This is not an extensive family. William 6002 1749 – 1824 Hampsthwaite William married Mary Thorpe in 1771 and only appeared Horseman to have two daughters Thomas 240 ? ? Hartwith Thomas is an unknown quantity, and had 2 sons baptised Horsman at Hartwith: Thomas (1783-1855) whose descendants are well documented, and John (1785-?) who I suspect may be my ancestor. This family appears to have been in Hartwith for only a short time, and there are several options as to who Thomas may be. George 6759 ? ? Headingley, George married Hannah Whittaker in 1769, and had 5 Horsman Leeds children, of whom I can trace two. Enoch who went to Halifax, and Joseph who married Martha Oddy, then Ann Ingle. Joseph was a shoemaker in Headingley. This is another family which died out. Thomas 5282 ? – 1783 Hemsworth Thomas was a 'Taylor', and had 5 known children. I Horseman suspect he married twice. One branch moved to Tong, near Bradford. Thomas 5506 c.1801 – 1870 Hook Married Mary Ingham at Kirby Grindalyth in 1824, then Horsman emigrated to Canada in 1831 (via the USA). He married a second time in Amherstburg, Canada; and the family lived there for many years, with some branches crossing the border to Michigan & Illinois in the USA William Horsman 2382 c.1781 – 1844 Hunslet, Leeds William married Ann Lawrence in 1801. Whilst most of the family remained in the Leeds area, one branch went to Barton on Irwell in Lancashire. Kilburn see Myton on Swale William 1735 ? ? Francis 2963 c.1745 – 1788 Kirkby Francis married Dorothy (surname unknown). The family Horsman Ravensworth remained for a long while in , with one branch moving to Hull in the East Riding, and another to Co. Durham. William Horsman 3656 c.1739 – 1813 Kirkstall & William married Grace Brook in 1773, and had 5 Headingley, daughters, one of whom - Elizabeth was the mother of Leeds Thomas Wood Horsman (born c. 1803), the head of a very widespread family which has descendants throughout the world. There are several on-line trees which indicate that William married a different person, but analysis of records would appear to disprove this. Thomas 3138 c.1712 – 1791 Thomas was a Weaver, and was married to Jane Horsman (surname unknown). I don't know if she was the mother of his 2 children. The family were Catholic, and two of his grandchildren entered the church. This is a very large family, some of whom went to Massachusetts and Rhode Island in the USA. Christopher 4848 1790 – 1848 Knaresborough Christopher was baptised in Knaresborough, son of John Horseman and Hannah. [Who were they?]. Christopher married Elizabeth Noudge in 1816. They had 11 children in Knaresborough, before he died at in 1848.

William Horsman 1677 1801 – 1847 Knaresborough William married Ellen Hewick in 1831 and had 4 children. He died in Wakefield Asylum in 1847. I have no idea as to who his parents were. William Horsman 5011 c.1759 – 1846 Knottingley Was a Waterman and married twice, firstly to Martha Steele in 1785, with whom he had 5 children, and secondly to Elizabeth Law in 1825. The family mainly remained in the Knottingley area. Samuel 6713 ? ? Leeds Samuel married Mary Moor at York in 1725, and had 8 Horsman children in Leeds. Their son Samuel (1741 - 1791) has many descendants. Thomas 2164 c.1757 – 1818 Leeds Thomas was a Tailor who lived in Leeds and married Mary Horsman Adamson in 1782. They had 7 children, of whom only 1 appears to survive into adulthood. A large family is descended from this son, Christopher. One of his sons emigrated to Queensland, Australia, and has a road named after him.

Leeds I have information on several other families from Leeds. George 6624 ? – 1772 Little Ouseburn, George was a Farmer, and married Margaret Pick in 1736 Horsman Flaxby and had 8 children. William Horsman 4880 ? - ? Marske His grandson Christopher emigrated to Nova Scotia in 1775 on the Jenny. Christopher founded a very extensive family in Canada. A word of warning: there are several online trees which are incorrectly showing Christopher’s grandparents. Robert Horsman 6847 ? – 1722 Marske Robert was married to Barbara Glass and they had 5 children. More research is needed. William Horsman 395 c.1744 – 1827 Marton cum Married Elizabeth, and produced very few male Grafton descendants William Horsman 4201 ? - ? Married Ann Li(t)ster in 1603. Some descendants remained in the area, and other moved to Leeds, and Middleton in Lancashire. One of the latter was a printer and moved to Massachusetts. I suspect that William is the ancestor of the family from Dinsdale in County Durham. William Tipling 2447 1848 - 1918 William was an Engine Driver, and was born in York. He was a Hand Loom Weaver, and married Margaret Jordan at Gretna Green. The family were originally in Cumberland before moving to Middlesbrough Thomas 5299 ? – 1729 Myton on Swale Thomas lived at Myton on Swale and was a Warrener. He Horsman was married to Elizabeth, and had 6 children. He left a very productive line. One of his 'twigs' lived at Kilburn, and another at Falsgrave, Scarborough George 10065 ? - 1631 Is as far back as I can get with the huge Hors(e)man family Horseman which originated in Pateley Bridge, Yorkshire, and whose many descendants travelled to all corners of the world. Unknown 4259 ? - ? Poppleton This unknown Horsman was the father of Edward Horsman, who was a Surveyor of Excise at Edinburgh in the mid 18th C. His other son was William Horsman who lived at Nether Poppleton. William's daughter Mary married a Robert Horsman (who was he ?). Francis 8076 ? – 1737 Ripon / Studley Francis married Elizabeth Hodgson in York, and had 6 Horsman /Galwhay children, but only one son, Charles, who married Beatrix Horsman, who is descended from William Horsman from Masham. They have many descendants. Timothy 3527 ? – 1775 Ripon Timothy married Mary Storzakers and had 8 children. Only Horsman 2 survived to adulthood, and neither produced male heirs. Thomas 5240 c.1756 – 1821 Sour Ing / Hull Thomas was married to Ann, and had 3 children (that I can Horseman find). They moved to Hull. There are no obvious descendents. John Horseman 7194 c. 1728 - 1802 Sowerby by John was married to Elizabeth Shaw and had 5 known . sons. More investigation is required. John Horsman 5311 c.1724 – 1810 Sutton on the John married Elizabeth Dixon and had 4 children. There Forest are no obvious male descendents. William Horsman 5574 c.1783 – 1858 Swinton / William married Mary Horner in Masham, and in 1851 says Masham he was born there. I can find no obvious baptism. He was a Gamekeeper, and moved around the country, finally dying in Wellington, Shropshire. John Horseman 7194 ? – 1758 John was an Ostler and married Isabella White. This was not a large family. William Horsman 4632 c.1776 – 1831 Wawne Married Hannah Calvert in 1800 and started a family which are predominant in East Yorkshire. It is from this family that the variant Horsaman emerged. The mystery is where William came from. William Horsman 233 c.1790 – 1865 West End William was a Flax Spinner and married Mary in 1817. The family moved to Rochdale in Lancashire probably in the late 1850's. Unfortunately I've not been able to find William's baptism, and can only surmise who his parents are. Thomas 6608 ? - ? West Tanfield Another Thomas whose marriage to Hannah, I cannot find! Horseman The descendants mainly stayed in North Yorkshire. Thomas 2530 c.1784 – 1825 He was an Innkeeper in Whitby. His son Thomas was a Horsman cabinet maker, but died young. His son Thomas was also a cabinet maker in Leeds. Amos Horsman 5474 c.1719 – 1790 York Amos was an Innkeeper in York, and married Margaret Collett in 1745. They had 4 children, before he died in his early 40's. Their son Amos was a carpenter, married twice, and had 7 children. A small but interesting family, which ended up in London, via Portsmouth and Plymouth. There are still several 'twigs' which need further research. Margaret 5234 c.1798 - ? York Margaret was an unmarried mum who subsequently Horsman married George Hebden who then vanished. She then married John Boyes. Her son John married Hannah Hopwood in 1849, and began a family, many of whom stayed in York. Other branches moved to Sheffield, Leeds, London and Scotland. Via Apprenticeship records I can now trace this family back to Amos Horsman. John Horseman 6616 c.1711 – 1788 York John was an Ostler, married to Ann. This was not a large family. George 7620 c.1742 – 1814 York / London George married Ann Allen in York. In 1773 the family were Horsman in York, but by 1774 they were in Marylebone, London. George was a ‘Plane maker’ by trade.
