P. 04510, Mexico ABSTRACT—The first formal report of Tertiary portunid crabs for Mexico is based on two new species, Portunus atecuicitli and Necronectes tajinensis, from the middle Miocene beds of the Tuxpan Pormation in Veracruz, east-central Mexico. Associated crustacean remains include fragments of calappid fingers, calappid carapace fragments possibly assignable to Matuta Pabricius, and callianassid hands. Low tolerance to osmotic variations of recent species of Portunus confirms paleoenvironmental interpretations for shallow, euryhaline, tropical waters during deposition of the Tuxpan Pormation. INTRODUCTION The rocks of the Tuxpan Formation are cream colored sand S CAREFUL collecting yields new faunas, decapod crus stones, containing a relatively high diversity and abundance of A taceans are becoming increasingly useful in paleoecolog- gastropods, bivalves, annelid tubes, crustacean remains, and ical and biogeographic studies. TLACOTALPAN, VERACRUZ I. DATOS GENERALES DEL PUERTO. A. Nombre del Puerto. (TLACOTALPAN).

Email: [email protected] Abstract The fern and lycophyte flora of Mexico contains 13 species in the genus Phlegmariurus (Lycopodiaceae; club moss family), of which nine are found in the state of Veracruz (P. cuernavacensis, P. dichotomus, P. linifolius, P. myrsinites, P. orizabae, P. pithyoides, P. pringlei, P. reflexus , P. taxifolius). They are located primarily in undisturbed areas of humid montane, pine-oak and tropical humid forests, which are all ecosystems threatened by deforestation and fragmentation. The objective of this study was to evaluate and understand the distribution and conservation status of species of this genus in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. Using Maxent, probability distributions were modeled based on 173 herbarium specimens (25% from recent collections by the authors and/or collaborators), considering factors such as climate, elevation and vegetation cover. Additionally, anthropogenic impacts on the original habitat of each species were analyzed in order to assign threatened categories based on IUCN classifications at regional levels. Results show that potential distributions are located in the montane regions of the central and southern parts of the state. All nine Phlegmariurus species in Veracruz were found to be in some category of risk, with P.

Royal Palm Beach (Florida), ~ ISSN 0749-0208. ~ ~ Compositional and textural attributes of the surficial sediment in deltaic settings typically differ from the sediment susuTyJ -+; load carried by their source rivers. This phenomenon is evaluated here by semiquantitative study of the variability 1&r--- of petrologic characteristics in different delta subenvironments of the Nautla and Tecolutla deltas along Mexico's Veracruz coast. Sediment composition and texture in the different environments of both deltas are related to processes that involve selective sorting during seasonal flooding and temporary storage after deposition. Displacement of par ticles of different size, density and shape onto the two tropical delta plains is controlled by fluctuating fluvial discharge that responds to a highly variable seasonal rainfall pattern. These discharge variations induce changes in hydraulic equivalence and, consequently, the release of substantially different proportions of volcanic, mica, heavy mineral and grain-size fractions in the Veracruz delta settings.

The analysis showed Tuxpan river plumeKeywords: influence Tuxpan over river Tuxpan plume; reef Shape matrix of when the plume; it has shapes,Tuxpan likereef a matrix; crest form, Sea surfacea bell shape. temperature; Geostrophic currents Introduction portant rivers (Tuxpan, Jamapa and Coatzacoalcos rivers) of the coastal zone of the Veracruz state [3,6-8]. There aren´t previous when increasing, is directly proportional to the expenses of the River discharges are strongly influenced by rainfall, which, studies which focuses to study the Tuxpan plume River and its in- rivers, which are direct fertilizers for the sea [1]. The Tuxpan river is located in the northern coastal area of the state of Veracruz and to study the plume of the Tuxpan River: sea surface temperature, - fluence over the reefs, so in this study, satellite data will be used dio and Tanhujio reefs, which are part of the Lobos-Tuxpan (LT) is located 10 km from the Tuxpan reef and 15 km from the Enme the same name (Figure 1).
