URBAN PLACEMAKING PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE + PARK REDEVELOPMENT ON BISCAYNE BAY DILIANA NIAGOLOVA DESIGN STATEMENT PROJECT FOCUS – PLACE MAKING Create an iconic and contemporary pedestrian bridge + Improve an under-utilized public park to enhance public use PROJECT TYPE – ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT RELEVANCE AND VALUE The intention is to bring more people to the space and create a comfortable gathering space with effective movement and interaction. Highlight the historic significance of the park, as an iconic gathering space, and elevate it’s purpose through artful design. THE BEGINNING – THE PARK’S POPULARIZATION “Young people with lots of hair (and not a lot of clothes) descended on Peacock Park, where they mirrored what was happening in San Francisco. They strummed guitars and passed weed wrapped in rolling papers from head shops on Grand Avenue.
