How to Identify a Member who is Speaking

When a member is addressing the House, it often occurs that he is interrupted by a colleague for a question. Then you will hear the Chair¬ man ask: “Does the gentleman from- (naming the State of the member speaking) yield to the gentleman from- (naming the State of the questioner) ? ” You now know the States which the two gentlemen represent. Then by consulting the alphabetical index above you will find the pages on which appear the photos of the members from those States, and among them you will recognize the two gentlemen in question, with their names underneath.
