She died in Brooklyn, New York, in 1899. She married a man with the same surname (John McGuire) also from Donegal, in 1895, in Brooklyn. The family believes they were distant cousins. My grandmother was also named Mary Ann (called May or Mamie) McGuire. My mother is still living at 90 years of age. There are plenty of female descendants of Mary Ann McGuire to ensure that the mtDNA will go on for the foreseeable future (oldest 90, youngest 1 year). I knew where my oldest known direct line Maternal ancestor came from. But I was interested in learning where they had been before they were in Ireland. Finding that I'm in the small Haplogroup V, and where this group originated, has opened a whole new area of reading and research for me. And - it's hard to explain in writing - but my mtDNA origins make complete sense to me. My mother's line is extreamly "white" (pale color), blond and often green or blue eyes. Many of my relatives are even "red haired with frekels" often called "Irish". We had never heard anything from an old "indian ancestor". Always had been told about French, Italian and Spanish ancestors. I confes, with all my respect to anyone, that if I got that "C" , I got it, but never expected. I was told in school that "natives or indians (as we call them here)" were almost exterminated by Spaniards, and very few "indian" blood could be found in this Island, in contrast to any other latinamerican country. Tha's why the slaves were brought here. I knew some people who proudly say they had an "indian ancestor - Taino". I knew my great-grandmother Gregoria Anglerau Gutierrez. She was born in PR around 1885. She was the daughter of Isaias Monserrate Gutierrez. As far as family stories tell, Isaias was the daughter of a spanish lady, and had also a sister. Isaias's mother separated from her husband, because he liked "slave women". Isaias mother kept Isaias and her husband the other girl, who she never saw again. Today, the population here is almost "mixed" (white and black). My family belongs to a small portion of the population - who considerd pure "European - White" descendants... a group that is extreamly predjudised with "coloured" people as they referred to "mulatos", but . Is not so "wrong" to mention to have an old "indian ancestor". This why I do not understand why we never knew about having that heritage.... despite you can't tell or find any physical resemblance. I write to the Genographic Project for any explanation for that "C" and the posibility of inherited in any other way. I'm still waiting for a reply. But as far as I know that I only had Spanish, French, Italian and even English" ancestors. I'm also an enthusiastic of the Genealogy, so after many years studying all my lines with my father, I never found anything about this "indian" ancestor. But anyone who's willing to look for answers is not allowed to be shocked by any finding" Email address (To use delete '-Monday-' and add @ sign in that position): macpro-Monday-coqui. net Guest: Hodgson Date-Time: Saturday, December 24, 2005 at 21:50:10 (CST) Testing Company Used: FamilyTreeDNA file:///D|/KERCHNER.COM/mtdnalog/mtdnalog2005.htm (3 of 108)3/8/2010 8:21:33 PM 2005 Entries into Kerchner's MtDNA Test Results Log HVR1 MtDNA Results: 16192T, 16256T, 16270T, 16291T, 16294T, 16399G MtDNA Haplogroup per HVR1 Results: U5a1a HVR2 MtDNA Test Results: 73G, 263G, 309.1C, 315.1C Date MtDNA Test Was Ordered: Comments: Earliest known direct maternal line ancestor: Maria Svensdotter b.1633 Gammalkil, (E), Sweden, d.1729, Gammalkil, (E), Sweden.
