Seasonal Variability of Groundwater Quality in Kapas Island
Chapter Seasonal Variability of Groundwater Quality in Kapas Island, Terengganu, Malaysia Mohmadisa Hashim, Arijatul Wardah Ahmad, Zahid Mat Said, Nasir Nayan, Hanifah Mahat, Yazid Saleh and Koh Liew See Abstract The chapter aims to evaluate the groundwater quality levels in Kapas Island, Terengganu, Malaysia during the monsoon changes of the Southwest Monsoon (SWM), Monsoon Transition (MT) and Northeast Monsoon (NEM) in 2018. Four locations were used for groundwater sampling namely, the Kapas Coral Beach Resort, Kapas Beach Chalet, Pak Ya Seaview Chalet, and Kapas Island Resort. Three water samplings at each station for every month in the monsoon. Six parameters of the Malaysian Water Quality Index (WQI), i.e., dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS) and ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3-N), were used to evaluate the water quality. The findings showed the groundwater quality parameters are in Class I and II. However, according to WQI Malaysia, the water quality status during the three monsoons is slightly polluted. During the SWM, the WQI value was 76 (Class III), the MT was 77 (Class II), and the NEM was WQI 71 (Class III). Given this status, it requires more intensive water treatment as it is not suitable for direct drinking water supply. The implications of the study show that the quality of groundwater in Kapas Island has to improve by the tour operators. Pelbagai perkara pelik sukar diceritakan secara saintifik dirasai oleh masyarakat setempat. Ia bemilai intrinsik (saintifik) yang tinggi dan bakal menjadi tumpuan ahli geosains untuk mengkaji keunikannya. Jujukan lapisan sedimen tak konsolidat berskala besar yang tersingkap dan membentuk Bt. Putri pada ketinggian 188 m merupakan gravel. Ia terdiri daripada klasta-klasta pelbagai jenis batuan, bersaiz batu tongkol, berbentuk bundar ke subbundar, berjulat 5- 60 em garispusat, terapung dalam matriks ber8aiz pasir dan kelikir. Singkapan terdapat pelbagai struktur sedimen primer dengan perlapisan yang jelas berjurus 290° ; miring 30° ke arab SSW dipercayai berlaku semasa lewat Kainozoik. Bt. Putri yang terletak dalam zon sesar Terengganu, mungkin mengalami pengangkatan isostatik igneus Banjaran Sempadan berbentuk diapir. Fenomena hentaman meteorit berskala besar mungkin berlaku berdasarkan fitur berbentuk bulat di bahagian utara Bt. Putri. Misteri kewujudan Bt. Putri yang unik perlu dikaji secara saintifik dengan lebih komprehensif. Myths and Neotectonics of Bukit Putri, Terengganu Abstract Bukit Putri, located at the Besut District, Terengganu has its own legend and is spiritually governed by Puteri Bunian. Many mysterious events have been told by the local people and could not be explained scientifically. It has high intrinsic value, especially on scientific grounds and it will be a favorite spot for geoscientists to study its uniqueness. -

It is rich in relatively well preserved fossils although it out crops only 500 meters from a granite. The fossils are diverse and consist of common Tubiphytes, a few algae, calcispherids, smaller foraminifers, abundant fusulinaceans (including Levenella, Pamirina, Brevaxina, Chalaroschwagerina, Leeina, Toriyamaia, Laosella), calcareous sponges, a few bryozoans, brachiopods, bivalves, rare gastropods, ostracods and crinoids. They indicate a Late Cisuralian age (Yahtashian Bolorian) and appear to belong to three biozones. The rocks of the area were previously considered to be Early Carboniferous in age. The limestone is commonly a packstone or a wackestone, very rarely a grainstone. Depositional environment was shallow marine. Dolomite is almost absent according to the study of thin sections and the results of chemical analyses. In Terengganu State, north of Seri Bandi in the area of Sungai Patang (a small tributary of Sungai Tebak) about 86 km far from Kuantan and 119 km far from Kuala Terengganu, the extension of Ladang Ketengah Jaya (Ladang = Plantation) has led to the digging of trenches to drain the water away from a swampy area. -

Using secondary data analysis and descriptive technique, the study found that there were several stages taken by the Terengganu authority prior to the formation of religious schools and college for the sake of Muslims in Terengganu. These incuse the teaching of Arabic language and religious teaching in the mosque and pondok (traditional school). Several scholars involved such as Sheikh Abdul Malik, TokkuPaloh and those ulama’ from Southern Thailand. Keywords: Arabic studies, Islam, Terengganu 1. Introduction This paper looks into the development of Arabic language and its teachings in Terengganu, Malaysia, including traditional Islamic teachings amongst Muslims of Terengganu. Religious education within the Malay community during that time refers to Islamic education that put great emphasis on the oneness of Allah (Tauhid) and the Prophethood of Muhammad (pbuh) as the messenger of Allah. The Prophet‟s teachings therefore must be followed as they become revealed knowledge and guidance coming from Allah. Describing religious education among the Malay Muslim community in the 19th century, Abdullah Munsyi notes that there are three important elements emphasized that always linked with Islam and centered around the Quran, Hadith (tradition) and religious law. These elements could be described as follows: 1)Studying the classical books emphasized the Oneness of Allah (tauhid), His actions (af’al) and His attributes (sifat).
