The Aston Martin Vantage GTE is based on the critically-acclaimed Aston Martin Vantage road car, the most performance oriented sports car to come from Aston Martin’s ‘Second Century Plan’. Powered by a 4.0-litre, V8 turbo-charged AMG engine developed and optimised by AMR, the Vantage GTE is the first all-new GT car Aston Martin has introduced to the FIA WEC GTE category in seven years. Following an extensive 10-month testing and development programme that has covered 35,000km and 14 different circuits, the team is confident that it has a competitive and reliable car capable of repeating Aston Martin Racing's 2017 Le Mans 24 Hours glory in June and contending for the overall Super Season GTE Pro title. Within the space of three weeks, sports car fans have been thrilled by the lead in the manufacturers’ championship changing twice. Following two one-two victories in succession, Audi had taken the top spot in the standings at the season’s midpoint. Although the brand had to relinquish its lead in the race in Japan, it remains in striking distance of the leader of the standings. Now the World Championship decision is coming to a head, as the sixth of eight WEC races is on the agenda at Shanghai on November 2. The brand with the four rings is separated by merely eight points from leader of the standings Toyota in the manufacturers’ classification, while the brand’s advantage over the third-placed brand, Porsche, is 66 points. A total of 132 points are yet to be awarded until the finale. The WEC round in China has special significance for Audi for several reasons. The track is regarded as very challenging, the team achieved victory there last year, and the ‘Middle Kingdom’ has evolved into the largest sales market for AUDI AG. In China, the company delivered 415,704 automobiles between January and September – 16 percent more than a year ago.

  • Porsche and Michelin Clinch the Season's FIA WEC Drivers' Crown
MEDIA INFORMATION November 21, 2015 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) 6 Hours of Bahrain Porsche and Michelin clinch the season’s FIA WEC Drivers’ crown and LM GTE Cups in Bahrain to add to their 2015 Manufacturers’ title The 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) concluded with Michelin’s partner Porsche claiming the top prizes in both the LM P1 and LM GTE Pro classes. Following its return to world class endurance racing in 2014, the Stuttgart brand emerged as the discipline’s team to beat this season despite year-long pressure from fellow Michelin runners Audi (in LM P1) and Ferrari (in LM GTE Pro). By providing tyres developed to meet the specific needs of its different manufacturer teams in this championship which permits open competition between tyre firms, Michelin enabled all of its partners and drivers to fight at the sharp end in the course of the 2015 season. “I would like to congratulate Porsche on its different titles and I am proud of the role Michelin played in its success,” said Michelin Motorsport Director Pascal Couasnon. “We work closely with all of our partners and we were at their side throughout this year’s FIA WEC which was of an extremely high level in both sporting and technological terms. It’s important to remember that this year’s cars marked a big step forward, especially the LM P1 prototypes which boasted power outputs and aerodynamic downforce of an unprecedented level.” The performance, durability and versatility of Michelin’s 2015 range of endurance racing tyres were illustrated by the high grip they delivered in cold weather at Silverstone and Spa, the quadruple-plus stints they permitted in LM P1 at Le Mans, their consistency and also their ability to double stint at the season’s most exacting circuits in high temperatures.

Press Release October 31, 2016 No. M 220/16 FIA World Endurance Championship WEC, LMP1, Round 8, Shanghai (China), Preview Match point for Porsche in the fight for the manufacturers’ championship Stuttgart. On November 6 the FIA World Endurance Championship is having its eighth and, at the same time, penultimate round of the 2016 season. One year ago in Shang- hai Porsche celebrated an early win in the manufacturers’ world championship. Noth- ing less than the defence of this title is the target for this year’s six-hour race at the Chinese Formula One circuit. So far this season the Porsche Team has achieved five race wins with its two 919 Hybrids and leads the manufacturers’ world championship with 263 points ahead of Audi (204) and Toyota (174). With the current advantage being 59 points, the team could start partying if the gap was at least 44 points after six hours of racing. We very much regret the loss of Audi as a great competitor from the 2017 WEC season on. Porsche will compete in the entire 2017 WEC season as planned. So far Porsche has derived a huge benefit in terms of knowledge and innovations for production cars from the LMP1 programme – this applies in particular to the 24-hour race at Le Mans. To be too relaxed in this year`s fight for the championship would be wrong, warned Fritz Enzinger. The Vice President LMP1 points to last year’s experience: “At the final race in Bahrain in 2015, it was the drivers’ title that seemed fairly easy to get.

The team went on to convert this speed into a one-two finish at the end of China’s round of the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship. The race started under a clear sky and the vast majority of the lingering damp patches after overnight rain had cleared. As the two Toyota TS 040-Hybrids, two Audi R18 e-tron quattros and two Porsche 919 Hybrids battled for supremacy at the start, the opening lap was marked by a collision between the N°51 Ferrari 458 GTE and KCMG’s Oreca 03R-Nissan which slowed without warning because of a sudden mechanical problem. The safety car was dispatched and the two Toyotas caught their rivals by surprise by making a pit stop after just two laps at reduced speed (the N°8 car even pitted a second time to complete the operation).

  • The 2014 6 Hours of Bahrain: Tyre Strategies and World Titles
MEDIA INFORMATION November 2014 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) 6 Hours of Bahrain The 2014 6 Hours of Bahrain: tyre strategies and world titles The 2014 6 Hours of Bahrain turned out to be an emotional event where Michelin tyres played a fundament role in the final outcome. The result settled a number of Drivers’ titles, with Toyota Racing’s Antony DAVIDSON and Sébastien BUEMI securing the top prize in LM P1, while the LM GTE Pro crown was sealed by AF Corse/Ferrari racers Gianmaria BRUNI and Toni VILANDER. Tyre strategy key in qualifying Qualifying practice for the 2014 6 Hours of Bahrain produced a contest in which tyre strategy helped Porsche Team to snatch pole position from Toyota Racing by mere tenths of a second. The German squad chose MICHELIN’s ‘soft high temperature’ compound, while Audi Sport Team Joest – which was represented by a single R18 e-tron quattro in qualifying – and Toyota Racing both opted for the French firm’s ‘medium high temperature’ alternative. The fastest lap was eventually posted by the N°14 Porsche 919 Hybrid in the hands of DUMAS/JANI who recorded a best time of 1m41.897s round the 5.412km Sakhir International Circuit, and an average lap of 1m43.145s. The N°8 Toyota TS040 Hybrid (DAVIDSON/BUEMI) was second fastest (+0.265s), followed by the N°20 Porsche 919 Hybrid (BERNHARD/HARTLEY, +1.046s). While Porsche’s choice proved judicious for qualifying, the question was whether it would be suitable for the start of the 6 Hours of Bahrain which took place with track temperatures standing at around 40°C, since the tyres used for qualifying had to be fitted for the first stint of the race? Romain DUMAS wasn’t sure… “I’ve been nominated to start the race in the N°14 Porsche and I think I will put on a good show for the spectators on soft compound tyres.
