Tenders for 06 Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) (1) Patna City - Bakhtiyarpur, (2) Rajendra Nagar - Gulzarbagh (3) Patna Jn.- Rajendra Nagar, (4) Patna Jn. Sachivalaya (5) Danapur – Neaora and (6) Neaora - Bihta were issued in the year 2016. (b) Work has already started and FOBs at Didarganj (Patna City - Bakhtiyarpur), Rajendra Nagar (Rajendra Nagar – Gulzarbagh) and Rajendra Nagar (Patna Jn.- Rajendra Nagar) have already been completed and commissioned. Work for construction of FOB at R-Block (Patna Jn.- Sachivalaya) is in progress. Work for construction of FOBs at Danapur - Neaora and Neaora – Bihta is yet to be started. (c) These FOBs have been sanctioned keeping in view the inconvenience being faced by the people while moving across the Railway line. It comprises four institutions, all of which are urban-focussed Janalakshmi, an urban micro finance company serving 2.5 million households across India Janaadhar, an urban affordable housing company Jana Urban Space Foundation, a non-profit focussed on spatial planning and design, both policy and practice Janaagraha, a non-profit having the objective of transforming quality of life in India’s cities and towns About Janaagraha Janaagraha was founded in December 2001 as a platform for citizen participation in cities. Today, it works with citizens on catalysing active citizenship in neighbourhoods and with governments to institute reforms to city-systems, generally referred to as urban governance. With an objective of improving quality of life in India’s urban centres, Janaagraha believes in addressing the root-cause of existing issues instead of the symptoms through its city-systems framework. Introduction: This study attempts to investigate the specific themes of inequality, violence, and poverty captured through media reports, in the context of Patna urban area. The added attempt is to capture other themes emerging out of the media coverage of crime situation in Patna urban area. Media reports inform that urban Patna is a violent and volatile society, predominantly inflicted with different types of crime of violent nature. Reflections through media on poverty and inequality issues demonstrate that urban Patna is a highly stratified society in terms of economic, social, cultural and political conditions. Poverty and inequality often generate and perpetuate crime, however, in many cases, it is affluence and consumerist culture that ignites criminal instinct and perpetuates crime. Social tension and insecurity associated with unemployment, poverty, and inequality may turn a civilian into a criminal, however, power, security, and prosperity also drives them to commit crime against those powerless or less powerful. The failure of the state agencies to perform and deliver basic facilities to common people must be put under the category of ‘crime’ against the affected segment of the society, from a different perspective. The vast section of the society living in underprivileged and insecure living condition turns violent to protest against the state, criminals and civil society, at critical occasions, and often, commit crime.
