  • Reaction to Dwight Clark's Als Announcement
REACTION TO DWIGHT CLARK’S ALS ANNOUNCEMENT “Dwight Clark is one of those guys that lights up the room – always smiling and making you feel great. When I heard the news, I like others in the 49er family, was devastated. DC changed the course of the 49ers with the catch. Don’t be surprised if he changes the course of this disease as well. Love you brother!” - Harris Barton, 49ers teammate “Dwight has been an integral part of my family’s life for almost four decades. We are absolutely devastated. We vow to do everything in our power to support Dwight and Kelly and help them fight this horrible disease.” - Eddie DeBartolo, Pro Football Hall of Fame Owner “Dwight is like a brother to me. This news crushed me. I’ve vowed to him to be here for whatever he needs from me. Whenever or wherever. He deserves all our heartfelt support.” - Roger Craig, 49ers teammate “There is nothing tougher than watching a great friend go through a serious health challenge. Dwight is handling this adversity with uncommon strength and the heart of a courageous champion, and our family’s thoughts and prayers are constantly with Dwight and Kelly. I know that they are fully aware that we will continue to walk alongside them, and do anything and everything possible to help them through this tough time.” - Brent Jones, 49ers teammate “Heartbreaking news. My pal, he’s such a great friend. I can imagine what a great teammate he must’ve been. He’s the absolute first guy I’d want in my foxhole.

  • APBA's GREAT FOOTBALL TEAMS of the PAST
APBA’s GREAT FOOTBALL TEAMS OF THE PAST - Vol. 2 1. PHILADELPHIA 1949 The Eagles breezed to their third straight Eastern Division crown losing only once in twelve games, a 38-21 setback at the Bears October 16. Philly finished 4 1/2 games ahead of second place Pittsburgh. The Eagles' success still rested on the twin pillars of their outstanding 5-2-4 "Eagle Defense" and a ball-control offense built around All-Pro RB Steve Van Buren, who led the league in rushing attempts, yards, and rushing TDs. The other speedy HB, Bosh Pritchard, provided a wide threat. The pilot of the highest-scoring offense in the league, Tommy Thompson, has been somewhat overlooked for his contributions to the Eagles' success. The slick ballhandler was adept at faking a handout, hiding the ball on his hip, and flinging a pass downfield. 2. GREEN BAY 1966 This team won Super Bowl I. The Packers went 12-2 during the regular season beating the Dallas Cowboys in the “Ice Bow” on quarterback Bart Starr’s one-yard sneak for the game winning touchdown. Two weeks later, the Packers soundly beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl I. This was Starr’s only MVP season. This was the second of Green Bay’s three consecutive NFL championship teams. Hall of Famers at every level on this team. Many of them All-Time Greats. 3. MIAMI 1972 The only team to have a perfect regular season record and win the Super Bowl. During the 1972 season, Bob Griese’s ankle was broken in Week 5 as he was sacked by San Diego Chargers defensive tackle Ron East and defensive end Deacon Jones.

"This is a no-brainer. I'm actually embarrassed that Eddie DeBartolo is not already in," said Brent Jones, a 49ers tight end from 1987-97. "He's as good an owner as there's ever been in professional sports. There will never be another Eddie. There may be people who try to be like him, but there will never be another Eddie." DeBartolo Jr. is one of the 15 modern-era Hall of Fame finalists this year, a group that also includes a pair of first-time nominees with Bay Area ties, offensive lineman Larry Allen (49ers, 2006-07) and defensive tackle Warren Sapp (Raiders, 2004-07).

  • Brent Jones, SF 49Ers Bio
Brent Jones, SF 49ers Bio Brent Jones was born February 12, 1963 in Santa Clara, California. He would later move to the Almaden Valley area and attend Leland High School where he excelled at both baseball and football. “The fact is” said Brent, “I never thought about becoming an NFL tight end. As a young person growing up in San Jose, I had aspirations of playing pro baseball. In high school, I made first‐team all‐league on the diamond and was a second string football player.” After graduating Leland, Brent went to Santa Clara University on a baseball/football scholarship, and it was there that his football skills blossomed. He was first‐team all‐ conference for three years, earned conference Player of the Year honors as a senior and also became an AP, Football News and Kodak All‐American. In 1986 Brent was drafted in the fifth round by the Pittsburgh Steelers. After his first season which included a car accident and neck injury, he wound up back near his hometown playing for the San Francisco 49ers. And as the old saying goes, "The rest is history." He would retire as a four time pro‐bowler with three Super Bowl Rings at the end of the 1997 season. He would record 417 receptions for 5,195 yards and 33 touchdowns.
