Smocked Nightgown In-A-Day Class Description: Shortcut nightgown pleating, construction, and smocking techniques for a bishop-style ladies' nightgown. Eleven other variations of the speedy wheat stitch will also be taught. The teacher will explain each stitch or variation, show a sample of the stitch, and demonstrate how to stitch it. The student will practice the stitch on their pleated fabric. Various threads will be used-- enclosed in the kit-- including DMC floss, perle , ribbon floss, and perle crown rayon. Layered Smocking Class Description: This is a project class. Students will stitch three smocked samples. You will learn what layered smocking is, the different types, and the variations that can be applied to produce different effects. You will make the smocked samples into sachets. Technique(s) taught: This class explores the technique of layered smocking and the many variations it present. A number of stitch and color combinations will be used. Three different designs will be stitched on pieces of pleated linen, each of which will then be made into pretty sachets, perfect for your lingerie drawer or as a special gift for a friend. Students can bring a fish or ocean fabric and matching floss to create their own color scheme. Technique(s) taught: This is a project class. Students stitch the design onto the pleated insert in the kit. The smocked piece can then be used for a garment or a pillow top.
