Friendship ~ that is what three years at HUP created and died. At brunch the next morning, it was agreed that we these sincere feelings for each other have lasted and should not wait 5 years until our next reunion. Friend - grown stronger over 50 years! Bev was a very active member of OUR Alumni Association. In addition, she worked at the “Our President” Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for many years. Bev was loved by all.

Deaths of Alumni

The Alumni Association extends sincere condolences to the families, friends and classmates of our members who have passed. We learned of several deaths through the return of mailings for the 130 th Reunion. Please notify the Alumni Association if you have news of a classmate’s passing. Our Remembrances Committee will send a sympathy card to the family if current contact information is available. 1938 1953 Mary Graeber Doan on July 1, 2014. Mary worked at the Scheie Eye Patricia Vesey Fischer of Skillman, NJ passed away on January 29, Institute for 40 years where she worked with and for Dr. Harold 2015. She was a life member of our association. She worked as a pe - Scheie. She was 96. diatric nurse at Bellevue Hospital in City and went on to teach nursing at Mercer Hospital in Trenton, NJ. She earned her 1944 bachelor’s degree from Rider College. She was also active in the Jun - ior League of Trenton, serving as President. She was on the Board Col. Mary Jane Carr (Ret.) of Carlisle, PA passed away on October of Directors of the State Museum and NJ PBS Channel 52. At the time 4, 2016 at the age of 94. Mary Jane was a retired United States Army of her death she was survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Fischer, nurse whose service spanned World War II, the Korean Conflict, the two sons, a daughter, 11 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Vietnam War and ended her career at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Bethesda, MD. She was a member of the Army Nurse Corps 1954 Association, the Military Officer’s Association of America and was a life member of the American Legion, Post 101, Carlisle. Mary Josephine Huegel Kircher passed away on June 17, 2017 at Tel Hai Retirement Commu - 1945 nity in Honey Brook, PA. As a nurse, Jo enjoyed a career in the emergency room and Geriatrics. She Margaret Schuler Von Achen of Pompton Plains, on loved her family, , birding and gardening. April 28, 2017. She is survived by her three children, six grandchildren She also enjoyed mahjong, quilting and reading. and six great grandchildren. Jo is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ted, their four children, eight grandchildren and three Mary Jo 1948 great grandchildren. We were notified of Jo’s Marian Louise Krider Nattress passed away on passing by Pat Negley Richey, her classmate. January 8, 2018 in Media, PA at the age of 89. Her lifelong career as a Registered Nurse was at 1974 Philadelphia area hospitals and schools. She retired Calvin C. Eckrote , husband of from the Southeast Delco School District in 1991. Deborah Hanlin Eckrote ’75 She is survived by her two daughters, a sister and passed away on September 29, many nieces and nephews. 2017. Cal retired as LCDR from Marian the US Navy’s Nurse Corps in 1991. He worked as an RN at 1952 Norfolk General, Maryview and later as an LPN Instructor at Dorothy Reilly Victor , of Mystic, CT on August Centura. He was a member of 17, 2017. She was predeceased by her husband, the Virginia Beach Medical Frank in 2007. Dorothy worked as an RN at Reserve Corps until his death. William W. Here are just a few of the alumni who served. When war with Germany appeared to be imminent in 1916, in a health resort town, Chatel Guyon, Puy de Dome, located The University of PA appointed John B. Theresa Novotny Kimzey ’67 served in Vietnam at the 67 th Evacuation Hospital in Qui Nhon as an operating room nurse. She recounted her experience as an Army nurse in an article published in the AORN Journal in 1971. The article is entitled “Experience and Experience” and can be found on-line. Theresa died on May 20, 1972 but we were unable to find the cause of her death and if it was war-related.
