On May 17th, one week before the park was set to open to the public; Kentucky Kingdom hosted an event for the American Coaster Enthusiasts club to introduce them to their newest roller coaster, Lightning Run. The park was already home to Thunder Run, which received a makeover for the new grand opening. Lightning Run is a Hyper GT-X coaster designed and built by Chance Rides, Inc. The Hyper GT-X coaster features a 100 foot lift hill with an 80 degree drop, giving passengers the effect of travelling almost straight down.
