July 11 Headlining on July 11 is the Bronx’ own Vladimir Caamaño, whose comedic style is the fruit of an immigrant Dominican family living in the cultural mecca that is New York City and is described as an elegant combination of urban grit & intellect. Caamaño began polishing his wit in the concrete jungles of the Bronx and Washington Heights, launching into the stand-up comedy circuit after graduating from Wesleyan University. In 2017, he made his late-night standup debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and performed again at the prestigious Just for Laughs Gala hosted by Lilly Singh. Caamaño has also been seen on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Marvel’s Runaways, and NBC’s Superstore. Joining him is New York native Nore Davis, who first started doing stand-up comedy as a teenager while living in Yonkers, NY. Early on in his career, Davis befriended the then-unknown Amy Schumer, bonding over their mutual love of comedy. Their friendship continued when Schumer started her own show, Inside Amy Schumer, on Comedy Central, with Davis appearing in the pilot episode. Davis has also appeared on Last Week Tonight, MTV's Nikki & Sara Live, NickMom Night Out, and The Artie Lange Show, and had a minor speaking role in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. He has also been seen in many videos on the comedy website, CollegeHumor.com. The MC for the night will be Josh Wesson. July 25 After spending a decade as a journalist and advertising writer, Joe DeVito gave into his coworker's demands to try performing so they could finally get some work done. Since then, he has performed on television more than 150 times including segments on CBS’ The Late Late Show, NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and AXS-TV’s Gotham Comedy Live, as well as appearances on Comedy Central, E!, CNN, FOX News, Animal Planet, and Discovery Channel. DeVito’s dead-on timing, unexpected twists and sheer flights of lunacy have made him a hit in the top comedy clubs in New York City. DeVito will be joined by featured comedian Mark Serritella, who was on season two of Adam Devine's House Party on Comedy Central and appeared on AXS-TV’s Gotham Comedy Live. Featured performer Natasha Pearl Hansen has performed in several of the top comedy festivals around the country, including headlining the inaugural Hamptons International Comedy Festival in 2015. Additionally, Hansen has written for Men’s Health Magazine and stars in her own podcast, Future Role Model, where she and her friends, “share stories of the good, the bad, and the ugly about themselves, and how role models are far from perfect” (iTunes, 2018). Tom Thakkar, the MC for the night, was named a “New Face” by the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal, as well as one of the “Best of the Midwest” by Gilda’s Laugh Fest.     What Will it Take to Save Comedy Central? 08.16.2016 Comedy Central's cancellation of The Nightly Show is the latest in a series of signals that all is not well at the network that was once the home of the country's sharpest political satire and news commentary. On Monday, Comedy Central announced that it was cancelling the show, which took Stephen Colbert's Colbert Report time slot in February 2015 when Colbert moved over to CBS' The Late Show. The move was not surprising considering the ratings: The Nightly Show is averaging a barely-there 0.2 among its key demographic of adults 18-49. RELATED: Comedy Central Cancels 'The Nightly Show' But The Nightly Show's failure to catch on is not the only problem at Comedy Central. Consider its late-night partner, The Daily Show, long the network's marquee program with host Jon Stewart. Stewart left the show just over a year ago and was replaced with South African comic Trevor Noah, who was hand-picked by Stewart. But despite Comedy Central's best efforts to reassure the media and audiences that Noah would eventually catch on, so far he hasn't. In May, The Wrap reported that The Daily Show had lost 38% of Stewart's audience among millennials aged 18-34 and 35% in households. And that comes at a time when the country is in the middle of a presidential election that lends itself extremely well to satire. It's also proven to be a mistake to let so much of its talent walk out the door, with Stephen Colbert going to CBS, John Oliver to HBO and Samantha Bee to TBS, taking much of Comedy Central's brand equity with them.

Vitanza ABSTRACT Ironic Feminism: Rhetorical Critique in Satirical News aims to offer another perspective and style toward feminist theories of public discourse through satire. This study develops a model of ironist feminism to approach limitations of hegemonic language for women and minorities in U.S. public discourse. The model is built upon irony as a mode of perspective, and as a function in language, to ferret out and address political norms in dominant language. In comedy and satire, irony subverts dominant language for a laugh; concepts of irony and its relation to comedy situate the study’s focus on rhetorical contributions in joke telling. How are jokes crafted? Who crafts them? What is the motivation behind crafting them? To expand upon these questions, the study analyzes examples of a select group of popular U.S.
